Yes as the thread title says Nik has been Banned \'for life\' for, what i can understand, to be standing his ground against NON members and just stating some quite obvious facts about members being on here or leaving to go on FDUK.... supposed \'Repeated anti club sentiment\'!
My personal opinion is that this is a very sad day for the club as Nik is a great character and bring a hell of a lot to the club. He may be vocal in his thoughts at times but never has this been anything but passion for his and our interests in the club and its following.
It was only a couple of years ago that he was being asked to be a higher member of the club and got offered the chance to be a Moderator. He didn\'t take that position (for reasons to do with his family and nothing going on on here) but continued to be a proud and high profile member all because of his love for all things rotary.
So how can things change so much in such time??
For all those that have met Nik you will know he speaks his mind and says things how they are but that he is never anything but honest and fair.
I have become good friends with him over the years which is why i\'ve felt the need to write this post. Usually i wouldn\'t get involved in such matteres but when a friend is involved that changes things. To me the way he has been treated on here, and on FDUK recently by some MODs from here has almost felt at times to be like a witch hunt. Sad and pathetic. All he ever wanted was support from the management to what is after all and paid member of the club.

Always enjoyed a bit of banter with Mr The Greek, i think most understood him and could keep up and for the obvious few who couldnt, i doubt all of you would be able to contribute as much as he has or even make me laugh a fraction as much!

I think being a long term member, that the moderators should have organised a poll messaged between full paid members. To see what there input on his punishment should be. And then use the feed back to work out if his behavior on the forum has upset a minority or a majority. it is very clear that a lifetime ban has upset what appears to be other full paid members on this forum, and when it comes down too it they are what keeps a club going.

well, a banning was the wrong way to go about it.

Jit I\'m still working so don\'t have the time for a exact count but I\'d say only a handful where by the same person more than 2-3 times sorry I\'ve expended way too much time on this now you either take what we say as correct or don\'t. One person however popular to a few vocal posters will not be allowed to monopolize our time to this extent any more.

Well, we all have a different opinion on such, if anyone had offended me, i would have no issue in letting others know if it warranted the justification for me having to hit the report button that it was that serious i.e someone abused my family, was actively racist (not the pretend pc rubbish of these days). something equally beyond banter between adults!

If it was a case of foul language being used that got him reported, would it be possible to have a separate section of the forum that can only be accessed by over 18\'s? That way if you look at a thread in that section you know that the likelihood is it will have a swear word or two in it (it can even be censored swearing). This would eliminate anyone accidentally being offended.

Not sure about the \'know crap record\' bit - we do try our best but yes we do make mistakes. Of the six forums I\'ve been a member of I actually think this is one of the best for dealing with compliants. I know I\'m a bit bias but I\'m also a Moderator on another two.
In relation to an over 18\'s section I don\'t think that would help. The sort of things we take action on are offensive to all. Many adults don\'t like swearing etc and I dread to think what sort of stuff might get posted. I know you can argue that we don\'t have to look but it\'s difficult on a forum like this.
It\'s a car forum - there are plenty of other sites for that sort of thing (so I\'m told :Giggle).

Umm, to be honest, I haven\'t seen anything by Nik that I would deem offensive, but I may not have looked in the right places, but, at the end of the day, it\'s Clive\'s club, he has final say, its his reputation at stake. If he takes offence to something then its his perogative as to the action.
It\'s a shame it got so far as to banning someone for life, but I guess Nik really should have taken the warnings if he had any intention of staying on here.

In defence of the team buddy, Nik was given the choice it would seem, i am sure he is comfortable with his actions and if his free speech is taken away, well it wouldnt have been Nik posting, but a truncated version of him.
So for the people who enjoyed his posting of then, we perhaps wouldnt have enjoyed the banter so much if he was choosing his comments carefully!

I have never met Nik, although I can recognise the man, however from his comments on here he seems a reasonably intelligent chap who would no doubt realise the consequences of his actions in this matter. He made the choice to remain controversial despite requests from the moderation team for the forum, he\'s certainly eloquent enough to make his point without troubling the swear filter and could have kept many of his more extreme views on pet-care to himself, he did not and therefore left them in a position where they had no choice but to take action. I am sure he\'s being kept appraised of the situation as I know he has close friends on here and part of me thinks that there is a part of him taking some enjoyment from the hubbub being created by the situation.

I think that\'s already been covered in great detail, and the thread was reopened at the memberships request.
FYI it was initially closed because it was deemed there were not enough mods on site to monitor it at the time. This is standard practice on many forums at times of heightened tension.

I like Nik and get along with him well and have had no trouble with anything he has posted on my threads as I saw it merely as jesting, but I will say that he was given fair warning from what is posted by Clive.
It is certainly wrong that on another forum that there is the intimation is that he was not aware of why action was taken on here, he clearly was.

Davy, first of all many thanks that you became a member of MRC in the first place, but also sad that you feel you wish to be no part of it however it is a shame that you have obviously not chosen to be a regular poster here with just 300 odd posts in 8 years.
Just as the report button is accessible to members who have complaints the members section with a suggestions thread is open all the time as well plus an e-mail to team@mazdarotaryclub.com if a member is not happy.
So at any time over the years as a member you always have always had various way to voice your concerns about "your" club.

This morning it was actually nice to log on after not being on here since yesterday afternoon and NOT finding that somebody had reported a post about something or other.

All depends what you want out of the forum, which works out at 0.06 pence a day, i used to find a lot of parts on the forum, and now i seem to be using it a lot lately to sell a lot of the stuff, which is free to do-even to a guest.
my main reason for rejoining this yr was the organised track days and discount that comes with it, just one events discount pays the forum fees not that i\'ve used it lol-next yr!
when you put it that way its not much is it! :eek, i am a member of a few forums and dont pay a subscription to any and i dont think that i am really missing out on very much really to be honest and usually doesnt really bother me its just this thread was getting interesting :Giggle

I was going to say something similar - Free Brooklands entrance at the spring show, £5 off each event like Japfest / Japshow - that would get a lot of your money back over the year if that wash the only motive for joining.

I think that is way too strong.
It is a club - by analogy (probably a risky thing to do...), if you enter a nightclub and pay your fee you are expected to abide by the rules of the club. You wouldn\'t have a say in the rules of the club, you just agree to abide by the rules that are set by the club when you pay. In doing so you enter into a contract. The nightclub owners want to ensure the majority of the paying members have a good time; if someone misbehaves and doesn\'t heed a warning they\'ll be thrown out.
The difference is that the MRC does have an area for suggestions and, contrary to what you might think, we do listen to see how the forum can be improved. I started as a guest, liked what I saw, paid my fees for a few years, then got invited to take a more active role. At the end of the day I\'m simply someone with a passion for rotary cars who chooses to spend some of my free time (unpaid) to keep the forum a nice place for the members to frequent. It\'s a pretty thankless task at times I can tell you........

If you don\'t want to pay for a service, don\'t expect it to work for you, if you go out of your way to then poo-poo that service, then what do you expect?
It works much the same way as the voting system (as has been brought up recently), if you choose not to vote, you choose not to moan about the party that gets in. therefore, if you choose not to pay for membership, don\'t be annoyed when things don\'t go your way.
In my experience, the admin and mods here go very far out of their way, above and beyond what they, by rights should need to. They shouldn\'t have to change/punish the majority just to please a minority, that way of acting and thinking is what we have to thank for the stigma of driving and owning a modified car these days.

Guys get over it. I stopped posting a couple of weeks ago because of all the moans,stirring etc. I am sure Nik is fine and doing well. 3 square meals a day.

I wish I hadn\'t really. The reason mainly for going was I along with others are sick of the moaning. Also when some people do well they are riddiculed and as often its a case of tall poppy syndrome. Another factor was people signing in who used to be on mrc and went elsewhere, and while elsewhere continued to slag off certain members of mrc. Then low and behold some are back on here like nothing has happened but then continue to stir it up again.

It\'s all codswallop, I suggest we just let this thread die now guys. Although I admit I thought I hadn\'t seen the last of it, conclusions is yes Nik was a gear guy, yes I think the forum benifited from his presence, but it seems he broke the rules. I\'m 100% sure Nik doesn\'t give 1-2 or even 3 turds about it, infact I bet it amuses him. I\'d love to see Nik back but it\'s not going to happen anytime soon, case closed. :cheers
