Hey guys I in market for aftermarket bonnet, I am after one that is very similar to the standard one so show me what you got and what is the best in the market.
I heard that the feed ones are not very good as the scoops are in wrong place is this right? can some share some light on this? also I will need to match the colour of my car so carbon ones are out of the running however pictures are welcome
Thanks
Carbon can be sprayed just like fibreglass panels can....
well i\'ve had some experience with a few different types of aftermarket Bonnets. For a start i would only go for a good quality genuine high end bonnet for the simple reason most don\'t fit properly (so try before you buy) then most have loops for the stock bonnet catch, if you do use them you may find the front edge flaps around alarmingly at speed and i have seen a few start to crack around the mounting plate so pins are a must.
As already said Carbon and GRP can be painted but if you are going to Paint the bonnet there is no point buying a Carbon one, carbon ones are good if you want the weave look and they can be flatted down and re-clear coated when they start to look tired.
But IMHO i would always stick with a stock bonnet unless i was going to use the vent to duct air through the IC and out over the bonnet and even in that case i would use a stock bonnet and fabricate it myself.
My bonnet:

Benefits: keeps rain off the engine, and pikey thieves from my engine bits! :D
thanks guys was thinking fabricating the standard bonnet I do like the look of few aftermarkets ones
this is mine, from the veilside kit

^^^^ FDUKin lovely Sean :)
Scoot bonnet in CF. benefits are cold air feed from front vent to anywhere in the bay and the side vents pull hot air out of the bay.
Instantly noticed lower water temps and more stable temps at speed. I have a SMIC atm so cant comment on air temps as it doesnt have much effect but with a V mount it would pull air through the cooler.

I never thought about rain in a vented bonnet. Is there that much off a issue with this ?
most have/need rain trays, Allot of people don\'t use them but its not wise imho

Which of course blocks most of those huge vents off :)
Personally i have had Scoot bonnets on 2 of my cars and although good for temps, without the trays you have water dripping (washing & rain) all over engine and electrics, with trays, your negating the cooling effect and sometimes trays wont fit with single turbos and intercooler pipes!
This time round i have decided to go for a Feed or Shine style bonnet as the vents are at the rear, although i know its been discussed at length how well they vent, in essence i dont want a bonnet with vents over the engine itself!
Ive got a re amemiya ad9 carbon bonnet with the rain tray. I found it does help but that the old r magic bonnet I had without a rain tray allowed for slightly cooler temperatures (however we taking 1-2 degree difference in both).
My car lives in the garage so rain aint a problem, when i wash it i have a big sheet of rubber that covers the whole engine...

Sure, same here with regard to the garage and washing can be done carefully of course.
However, felt very uncomfortable when i was away from home and it started raining and just knew it was all going over the engine, electrics etc
Although there are arguments against the feed bonnet, there are some who have used them with good effect and noticed a drop in temps over standard and i believe some who have experimented and found a very minor difference to the majority of popular vented bonnets! i am absolutely sure that the original designers of said bonnets, re, mazdaspeed, scoot, feed etc all designed the bonnets to be functional!

All good buddy, im sure there are solutions, just saying why i went off the large vented style!
this is a great topic, I sarted thus because I was stuck in m25 otherday about 25-30minutes almost standstill, I can see the heat escaping from the sides and I was thinking there must be benefits with vented bonnets specially rotary engines are does not like any exceesive heat.
I do like the look of feed as bonnet vents further back
I think they all look good actually, except the dodgy old louvre Re ones, no offence to anyone who owns one! All depends what look you are after, Aggressive - Scoot, Stylish - Re and Mazdaspeed, Subtle - Feed/Shine.
Would like to see some more pics added, maybe get a few up, discuss pros, cons and findings and make it a bonnet sticky for future ref?
Has anyone done anywork to their standard bonnet?
