This may sound stupid but i was wondering and im not guna try either but.....
How long would a rotary run with no engine oil running at idle
It\'d probably run for a few minutes but sustain serious wear / damage very soon.................you haven\'t have you?? I did this around 20 years ago with my XR3, it was only around less than a minute, i wondered what the funny noise was :2Rolleyes.
Filled it up, it was fine and then i was the fastest guy on the road again..........yes, so i believed.........what i knob i was :Giggle
Dave.
Oh ok that sonds good. basically what happened was i had been working on making a new twin oil cooler setup and had removed the oil coolers completely. then when i was gone my little :censored::censored::censored::censored: of a brother thought he be clever and was showing off the remote start slarm on the car. he sed he let it crank twice for 20 secs each time and it started on the second crank. it started with a massive bang and was running for less than a minute after which i came downstairs and turned it off. i went outside to see the oil has :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed out the oil cooler pipes everywhere.
Looks like your brother\'s about to foot a very expensive bill!
Wouldn\'t panic, i know someone who split an oil cooler doing 70 down the motorway, and whats worse is he didn\'t notice until all the no oil lights came on (he said it lit up like a Christmas tree) so he pulled over to the hard shoulder and there was a trail of oil as far as he could see up the motorway :) The mad thing is he was quite a way from home so bodged the cooler lines together to bypass it and with some oil was able to drive it home. To my knolage it was never rebuilt even though i bet the bearing took some stick.
yeh i think its either 50/50 but its a shame the power fc doesnt have an option where it automatically turns the car off after the oil light comes on. ill just have to change the oil and start her up again and see what the damage is
Was the car running any premix? Guessing not lol

The engine wouldn\'t start then! lol
yeah im running premix
i have seen a vid on the net where they run a FC at full chat with no water in it - and it runs for about 15 mins ;)
yeah ive seen that vid of them jokers. my only concern was the lubrication side of things. but from what people have said it seems to me not much damage would have been done as 1. the engine had oil in at time of starting and 2. it was not running long enough for it to be damaged. well thats what i hope anyway
The question is was there any oil left in the engine? If there was then I would say your lucky! I had a simila problem one when a oil cooler pipe popped off and I lost half my oil on the drive! But I noticed in time and all was good and dandy!
