Title: Well i have fixed the gear box ;)
Post by: grinder on October 02, 2011, 06:29:41 PM
Thats right ladies and gentlemen

I now have a working gearbox .... only thing is .. its in this little baby :D

Picked her up today :D

The long timers on here will remeber it as Elford_Tims old car , which was bought by richrx and now by me

Its a 1989 UK Turbo II
Done about 117K ( rebuilt/recon engine at 91K )
Koyo Rad
HKS Guages ( oil temp - doesnt work though ) / oil pressure / water temp )
Koni shocks all round ( stock springs )
Fully de-catted
Cusco front brace
10mm Red Magnacor leads

It runs like a dream ( a little on the quite side - but i can sort that out )

Was a new roof a few years back - but then little scummy person decided they wanted in - and slashed the roof

But Richard sorted that with some fancy tape

Its come with a full car cover ( will nosey at that tomorrow ) and the tannaue cover ( i seem to have a collection of these now ;) )

Rich has done the mod to keep the lights down with the side lights on and hes put some led lights where the front fogs should be

Ran superb on the way back , and pulls fine on boost etc..

The main thing in all this , it has a working gearbox .. its superb ( cant find the gears in it yet ... but time will sort that )

And yes .. here are the pics

Really pleased for you man. What\'s your plans now then? Swap all the good bits over to this new one? Is it manual or auto?

Ade - no idea what to do with the other one yet ! LOL

B.Martin - its a manual car :D - so thats nice .. need to swap over some shiney bits yet onto it

Clutch seems to be right at the bottom , but it pulls OK etc.. - you just have to put the clutch all the way to the floor before changing gear , will take some getting used to i think .. no speedy changes as yet !

We\'re going to have to start calling you \'2 cabs\' - it\'s an exclusive club, but that\'s 2 of us in it now :cheers

Can\'t really see the roof repair from those photos - but the top bit looks shiney in one of them?

I do like how Grinder\'s simple solution is to buy a complete extra car lol :D its missing the front splitter as all turbo IIs seem to lol but the big question is.....does it still have its battery box lid? :rollin

they are both too good to break to be honest - and i know for a fact that rich\'s better half would drive to my house and kill me ;)

and its a great solution - cant fix it just buy another ;)

Are you going to ironically convert 1 to a manual box then and sell it? :rollin

Could you not take the autobox out of the original one and open it up and see if there is anything obvious with it? Would need to come out anyway and you have the white car to drive around in :)

Hiya Pal

the car drove like a dream - lovely and smooth

still cant get used to the clutch or the gears - but that should come in time

the only thing i had trouble with was putting juice in it , the petrol flap opener was really stiff ??

and not sure if the boot one worked ( was pulling both of them to get "something" to open )

apart from that .. superb mate

got a few drips of water in the car - but only after it was stood for an hour at my parents and then set off - but thats something and nothing :D

you can email me at work - i will pick it up on tuesday ( off monday :D )

Thanks again for a super smooth sale on a car :D

Whats ammused me somewhat is Clare and my mum both prefer the white one to the old one .. so thats ALWAYS a good sign :D

Good work getting a solution mate! Looks nice too!

What is that fancy tape? I NEED some! (to go on the replacement roof I\'ll be getting, I\'ll freely admit the one I have is beyond repair...)

Take the roof off permanently, do a bit of fab work, cut out the windscreen, stick on an air diffuser and call it a \'spyder\' :Laugh

Hi stu

Yeah the petrol flap is stiff, and I broke the boot release cable in the winter( I think it froze up) but I\'m not sure if it\'s the cable, catch or just come loose somewhere.

I\'ve always taken my time with the gear changes... But since I changed the slave and master cylinder I\'ve noticed the clutch is very low, if you get the chance maybe spend 10 mind bleeding the system, I think that will sort it!

But I\'m glad your enjoyig it :) I always thought it was a classically good looking car, maybe the cars an odd s5 without the skirts etc, but it\'s different and maybe better for it :) (IMHO :p )

If you wanna know anything feel free to email, text or pm :)

Ive got an e39 5 series in replacement... Lovely car and voted best car ever.. Not a patch on my Rex!!!!!!

Thank
Richard
