My fd ran out of fuel, i put fuel in but it will nit start, there is spark & it turns over but wil not fire, i thought it may be flodded but when i took out plugs they were dry so it looks like its not getting fuel, i took out fuel pump & connected to battery & it works fine but the fuel does not seem to be gettong to the engine?
if it ran out of fuel it will take a couple of minutes of turning over to refill the fuel filter and fuel lines before it gets to the engine
Ive turned it over more than enough for the fuel to come through but still nothing
You could have sucked a lot of crud into the fuel filter !
Shaun
take of the fuel line that goes into engine, put it in a coke bottle and turn over with coil pack unplugged and see if any comes out, if not your fuel filter or lines are blocked, if it does then maybe blocked injectors, at least you can see if there\'s any crap in it.
PS did you fill u with petrol or diesel lol

Where is this fuel line located? & where do i plug out the coil pack? No its deffo petrol lol
Disconnected a fuel line under the uim by the oil dipstick & fuel comes through when cranked so looks like it may be the injectors, goong to try get them now
what was the fuel like, any crap in it,
firstly mate i would take out the plugs and see if they are wet, could be flooded maybe.
try that before taking out the injectors as i believe you need to take of the uim
The fuel in the tank looked very clean when i took out the pump, i horiginally thought it was flooded but when i took out the plugs they wer bone dry, have the uim off now & have located 1 injector but am having trouble finding the rest with the rats nest, the fuel rail seems to have fuel in it though, do all injectors fire on atartup or is it just primarys?
Took out the 4 injectors, stripped them & soaked in acetone for 24 hours then in a 50/50 mix of petrol & redex injector cleaner for 24 hours, put hem back in today and she eventually started with a few big puffs of smoke but seems to be running ok now
well at least you got it going again! :driving

well done mate :)

Cheers fella, shes running better now than she was before :burnout
I guess if you were running constantly for 20 years without a break like those injectors then im sure you would be tired as well, glad its sorted :)
Problem is back again, she started last time after i cleaned injectors. Left her sitting for about a week & went to start again & the same thing turning over but not firing, thought injectors wer blocked so again took them out & cleaned them & put a new fuel filter on but still nothing
Ive removed both fuel rails & tested, all 4 injectors are firing properly, the specified amounts of fuel, im gonna put them back in tomorrow & try again
Any other suggestions why it wont start? its not flooded
Have you checked the wires feeding the pump ?? Possibly intermittent flow ??
Shaun
All connecions seemed fine, there is a steady & constant flow comming into fuel rails when i was testing the injectors, im pretty sure there is nothing wrong at the rear its between the fuel entering the rail & going through injectors to engine the problem is
What state is the vac line for the FPR in ? Could it be getting positive pressure off a leaking line and upping the pressure ?
Shaun
Vac line for fpr was fine, not crispy, no visible damage
I\'m suspecting that the injectors may not be getting power when the engine is turning over, is there a relay or fuse for the injectors?
Have a look at :
http://foxed.ca/foxed/index.php?page=rx7manual
for the electrical manual.
Ok injectors are getting power, put everything back together & she still wont start, i connected the ground & fuel pump connectors in the diagnostic box with a wire & cranked & she almost started but then battery lost juice, its really pi***ng me off now cant work it out, gonna wait for batt to charge & then try the same thing again & see if any joy
Ive been thinking when the fuel pump was running anyway & i cranked it i may have got more fuel pressure & thats why the injectors fired & it almost stared.
Im starting to think it may be the FPR on the secondary rail, think ill clamp the fuel return line off the fpr & see if that makes a difference because obviously if its faulty & there is not enough pressure in the rail the injectors will not fire
I have been reading up on it & apparently the stock fpr\'s can fail & a tell tale sign is he car running rich which it has been doing
Ok read that rx7\'s reduce fuel flow when the accelerator is fully depressed, when i have been trying to start i have had the pedal fullty depressed
so i tried without the pedal depressed & she coughed & spluttered into life eventually, ran very rough for a few mins & there was a lot of smoke coming from around the turbos but when it warmed up it got better & ran properly & the smoke stopped
going to let it sit for a few days before i start again & see will she start ok, fingers crossed
Sounds like it was just flooded, fully depressing the pedel will mean fuel cut
