Title: 1987 RX7 Turbo II. Backfires after o-ring kit installed

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and really need some guide lines to the ins and outs of the rotary engine.:censored:

I have a 1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo II 13b. I recently purchased a o-ring kit from rotary aviation and now I am having a couple issues and I was hoping someone could help me out with.

1. Can you install the rotors incorrectly? That is 1 tooth off on the gears? :censored:I purchased a video and have a manual. I followed the directions as to align 1 rotor at 12:00 and the other rotor at 6:00. Is this correct?

2. Can the crank angle sensor be 180 degrees out? :censored:I have to turn it all the way counter clockwise to get it to time on the yellow mark on the crank pulley.:censored:

3. The engine will start and run on 1 rotor but the other rotor doesn\'t want to kick in until about 3000-3500 rpm. When it does it pops and backfires. :censored:About 4000-4500 it smoothes out. :censored:I took it out around the block and when the turbo kicks in it just falls on it\'s face and still pops and backfires.:censored:

I put new spark plugs (BUR7EQ and BUR9EQ) in and it seemed to run a little better but just can\'t seem to get rid of the backfiring and not making any power.:censored:

I have pulled the engine back out and rechecked everything and it appears to be in the correct order. :censored:One more thing is I installed S5 rotor housings on the engine also. Will new apex seals correct this problem? The old ones are at the edge of the limit. I didn\'t know how touchy these engines are to being as close to back to factory as possible. The car has 65,000 miles on it now and has been run hard at times. :censored:Any help in these areas will be greatly appreciated :censored:

Thanks so much.:censored:
