How much power can the stock twins handle ? And how would you work it. I Belive the 1st comes in at 8 psi and then 6 psi for the 2nd. So would you just increase those ? and why have less psi on the 2nd turbo? And would this also effect where it comes in on the revs ?
Cheers Ryan
I have an FC, so can\'t give you figures. I do know you can have them set up to run non sequentially though? I\'m sure someone will be along who is in the know-how very soon.
The most i\'ve seen on stock twins was an old member on here called Warthog who got around 400bhp out of his set up.
If you search for him and his post i\'m sure you\'ll find some good info
Adam
he got over 380 at the wheels!!!!! Warthog .
The twins did not last too long though, he ran them sequentially
Boost pattern is 10 psi drops to 8psi (transition) then back up to 10 psi when the second comes in, so if your boost pattern 8 psi for first then 6 psi when the second comes in you have a boost problem with your rats nest
I have a 2000 type rb if that makes any difference. It has a boost gauge in it, and when i accelerate it goes to 8 psi then sticks at 6 all the way to the top. Is this wrong ? It feels like power is coming in all the way through the rev range.
yes you should be producing more boost then this , minimum 10 psi, you are probably not getting the full 265bhp
Mark has given you the correct info above in that you should see a fluctuation when the second turbo kicks in, it sounds like your not making enough boost to then get the change over occur.
As your making fair initial boost the first place to look will be the rectangular chamber box in the middle of the engine in front of the strut brace to see if one of those pipes has dropped off or is loose.
I would say that when you get this sorted your going to have a completely different animal:3gears-rh
Or it could be the boost solinoid causing issues with the second turbo
Change the check valves for new, or Viton ones, a regular problem and an easy fix.
I\'m running on stock twins (1996 RS model) i\'m running 370BHP but running in Non-Seq and engine is ported @ 1.11Bar (16.1PSI)
Hey up all,
what\'s the best test for checking the turbos - floor it in 3rd gear from 30mph and get up to 4500rpm and note the boost?
a
Ok havnt had a chance to drive it yet. But looked at the gauge that thought was psi. But on the cluster it says x10 kpa. Will be driving it tonight so will check for boost pattern. But in the mean time if anyone can explain kpa ect. And if that makes a difference. Cheers guys
they are both simply units of pressure:
psi (Pounds per Square Inch)
kPa (kiloPascals)
1kPa = 0.145psi
1psi = 6.89kPa
so (if boosting correctly) your gauges should read 10-8-10psi or 69-55-69kPa. The (x10) bit simply means that you multiply the number shown by 10 to get the actual reading, i.e. it will physically show 6.9-5.5-6.9kPa.

Nice one cheers guys. Alls working fine it was low as was in kpa and not psi. And it was going to all the right figures. I think I just didn\'t see it going back up again as at the point of 8000 rpm I was keeping my eye on the road :D
So back to my original question will turning the psi up on twins effect when they come in ?
be carefull turning up the psi! somebody on here put up an ace illustration showing a picture of a rotary engine showing boost increase going in and apex seals coming out!
if you turn the boost up each one of the 10-8-10 points will go a bit higher. But be careful, turning up the boost on a standard ECU is particularly clever as it can go outwith the range that it can adjust fuelling.
even with an aftermarket ECU you will need a remap to ensure you don\'t suffer detonation. Detonation = blown apex seals :(
you can not increase boost pressure unless you have an aftermarket ECU like an Apexi Power FC and get it mapped.
