Title: ICE Thick and I know it!
Post by: Ricco_04 on June 25, 2004, 01:19:44 PM
Hi chaps, can anyone help with what to do when removing the standard stereo? There is one big black lead that has no where to unplug it (i think its the signal for the radio.)

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help :wave

It seems to be power for the arial.  I have fitted a new HU and i have found the same black wire has nowhere to plug in, and i have already connected the arial but the arial isnt rising.  Im not quite sure what to do with it, but as my ultimate plan is to smooth over the arial at the rear, im too fussed.

There are two leads from the arial. One lead has a very small socket from memory and this is for the BOSE system. The other is a standard female socket, but you need a plug to fit to standard HU\'s. Cut the lead and fit a plug. Be aware though that the wire in the center of the coax is more of a filament and can break very easily. I ended up running a new lead through from the back........

Oh Eck! I gotta chop the big one off and crimp on something with the correct end?

Yeah, I kinda wasnt fussed about the aerial not coming up (mainly cause I listen to CD\'s) so might not be a problem there.

Right, ill get the pliers out tonight and chop the bu**er off! (Mmm stereos with free fitting   )

Thanks for the info, appreciated.

The standard unit had two arial leads, one goes to the retactable arial in the back wing. The other one goes to another arial strip in the rear screen, its for sorting out good signals from interference. You only need to connect the retractable arial, forget the other one exists...

Cheers
