Post by: wolfie1 on September 25, 2011, 10:04:32 PM
my guage in my fd is not the greatest sometimes on idle it shows no pressure other times it reads heaps and then at other times its anywhere inbetween, so what im wondering about is can you take the guages out and fit in other ones, also is the guage electronic or mechanical and where is the pick up on the block just before i go looking?

I replaced the water temp and oil pressure gauges with VDO which are simple, accurate and reliable. I was lucky to buy a set of 4 gauges on Ebay with senders for a lot less than new. Being from an open top kit car they had scruffy cases but as you can see below I only used the inner windings from the two gauges anyway.

I bonded the gauge faces to the rear of the black plastic gauge surround and using a dremel I made room behind in the white plastic rear section. I used ring terminals and very small nuts n bolts to connect the gauge wires to the flexi circuit on the back. Took about half a day with a couple of hours waiting for the gauges to bond to do it.
