Title: Convertible Top Fasteners
Post by: grinder on September 24, 2011, 06:49:45 PM
Hiya chaps

I know there has been some chats on here in the past about what fasteners are used on the convertible top at the back ( where the tannaue fits )

Now i think i have found them

http://www.smallfordspares.co.uk/categories/vintage-car-parts-upholstery-and-trimmings-cloth-fasteners-tenax

can someone confirm that these are the ones used on the car and the tannaue

I have a plan up my sleve , just need to make sure im heading in the right direction first :D

I think John found these once and decided they were not the right size :(

Although there seem to be more sizes offered than I recall from last time...

I did go through the Tenax options and they are 2ba.

The ones around the my rear hood fastenings are 6ba, thicker.

not sure how the other item you\'ve picked out would work.

I\'m sure all cab owner would like new shinny studs.

http://www.perfectfit.com/39289/445267/Tenax-Fasteners/Tenax.html

this is the page where it says that the british ones are not compatable with the german ones

cant believe that loads of people "look" to sell them , but there is no real product specs :(

I\'m no engineer but as I understand it \'BA\' is a thread size.

I think 6BA is around 5mm

This may help explain

Tbh, I\'m not so bothered on thread size, as long as I can get a nut to fit behind it if it\'s incorrect, I\'ll just need something the correct size for the tonneau cover to sit on, on top. (since I suspect all of the bolts on my car will be rusted in place and will shear...)

So what do people think to that?

I did try the 2BA with a nut on the back but couldn\'t access the ones below the window.

I also thought about metal filling the existing holes, then re-drilling and tapping them to the 2BA size but decided it was too much effort.

Hummmm , SO the actual clip off bit could be the same - as thats just the fastener on the top ??

Interesting ;)

so do we know what was used on the car then .. or is that still guess work ?

Do you think this is a viable idea if the headlining is removed, would I be able to get to them, or are they still inaccessible?
There\'s a bolt in/out strut that goes from 1 side of the car to the other that could be removed - might well find access to them from under there.
