Title: Barney with a mehanic!
Post by: Mikey22 on September 23, 2011, 08:44:40 PM
After the few months in my new job ive only just found out today there is a rolling road/ tuning and upgrades centre right next to it. So i thought id pop in and have a chat with the guy to see if he could dyno test my Rex.

Well i knew it would have to come up so he asked me what car i had.
I replied (Its an Rx7 Gen 3 twin turbo)

His reply to that was: Oh god not a rotary......best thing you could do is rip that out and stick a supra engine in! Dont waste your time and money on the thing.

Well at this point i was boiling! i really wanted to stick it to him but then i though i really want to use his dyno as its the only one in the area lol soi just nodded on.

He said that the rotary engine just make a lot of noise but has F all torque.

This cant be right?.......

I still believe there is a lot more to the rotary than meets the eye.

Got more torque than ya v-tec yo!!

On a serious note, I\'m pretty sure your turbocharged rotaries hold there own with torque figures - remember the lump is actually only 1308cc ;)

:Thumbsup!

exactly right - the engine has different characteristics to a piston engine (obviously) and as with anything different, people tend to focus on the negatives without knowing anything about the positives. They don\'t acknowledge the wonderful power delivery or simplified engineering or the fact that with proper maintenance these things are as reliable as any performance motor. Add auxiliary injection and you\'re laughing!

Ignorant piston loving bums - thats what it comes down to! lol

Agreed with the above comments, guy\'s just full of arrogant ignorance and has no idea what he\'s talking about. I\'d say take your Rex on there anyway and give him somewhat of a shock :Laugh

Take the car to his for a power run and make sure he\'s stood behind the exhaust when you go onto overrun!

Yep, even N/A Rotaries aren\'t rubbish on Torque.  RX8 makes more torque and at lower revs than a Honda S2000!

VTEC = FAIL

MY stock FC eats the DC2 Type R for breakfast.

i have had goes with imprezza sti, focus rs, astra vxr, bmw m3, megane sport (the one with the plastic windows) and audi rs6 just to name a few and and have totally blown them away in acceleration............... no torque, what a load of waffle especially since mine is still basically standard! ;)

I have only really raced an integra type r, but needles to say there was little competition, with that and my stock TII - I could even play with him, which is something I disn\'t expect!

I managed to keep up with a Ford Mundano ST220 a few years back, until we got into higher revs, I\'ve destroyed Golf VR4s and GTis, an audi of some type, a saab turbo, a vauxhall astra coupe Bertone and a few more, what do all of these cars have in common? Piston engines... Don\'t get me wrong, there are plenty of piston engined cars I like, but just for sheer exuberance, you can\'t beat a rotary.

the guy\'s talking out his rear end, he\'s never driven/owned one, only going on what little jaded mis-informed snippets of talk that has reached his ears. Gotta learn to smile, nod, then blow him away at the lights.

EDIT* Out of curiosity, what does he drive? a Saxo? lmao!

Ya, it :censored::censored::censored::censored:es me off that people who dont know anything about rotarys, are judging them.

Here, noone knows them. Only thing thats someone knows is NSU rotarys. And their reputation.

When i tell them what kind of engine and what rotary can do(power), they basicly call me a liar... :) Still, im clad that i have managed to turn few guys to see how great engine rotary really is. :)

also bear in mind how old are our rex\'s and what age are these other "new" cars......... speaks volumes in my eyes
