Would like to ask what brand and type of engine oil does everyone use for there FD\'s?
I personally use royalpurple, but others, especially in the uk probably use another brand. Maybe a mineral oil.
My is full synth 10w40 ;)

Ignore the arguing over synthetic oil etc, if you look through the pages you\'ll find a lot of people mentioning which brand they use and what viscosity, hope some of the non-argumental posts help :Thumbs-up
As for Synthetic oils, Mazda says....

yesssssss!! ahahah :D
What do you think instead?
Honestly i don\'t know, i\'ve read a fair bit about it and there seems to be no definate answer. I\'ve read that \'some\' synthetic oils are fine in a rotary, but then we all know that mazda reccomends only mineral. I\'ve read the reason for this is becuase mazda can\'t reccomend certain companies i.e RP etc.
It would be interesting to hear from some of the engine builders and reputable tuners on this subject and hear some of the experienced guys opinions and facts.

exact :Thumbsup!
right thinking :yes
I was recommended Castrol mineral oil by one tuner and now I can\'t get that, Shell HX5 (?) by another tuner...both minerals. I think I\'ve seem Halfords do a bog standard mineral oil as well.
That\'s about as far as I can comment :)
maybe depends how the engine is looked after.. the le mans cars engine only had to last 24hrs distance then maybe a rebuild?
where as most normal people would like to get at least 60k miles before rebuilt lol
VR1 racing oil is the ONLY oil I recommend using. It is an "ashless" oil and will not leave deposits when burned.

Currently Halfords orange and a blueprint oil filter - oil is changed every 3000 miles via my Fumoto oil drain tap :)
I will be changing to a 2 stroke mod to use 2 stroke only via the OMP - will be using marine 2 stroke as its designed as low ash
i used fully synthetic oil even before removing my OMP, my engine didn\'t die.
Unfortunately Halfrauds stopped their mineral oil a while ago - anything you see on the shelves is just the stock left over - buy it!!!
I have no idea where I am going for my oil now!
I used to whack tesco mineral oil in my old egi lol, i will be using good stuff this time round though. Something like castrol mineral oil or there is some guy thats got some good rotary stuff in Nicosia i\'ll probably take it upto him.
Yeah I saw Tesco did some but couldnt bring myself to use it!!
I can get some Mineral in 15w40 instead of 10w40 - I gather this would be a thicker viscosity when cold but the same when up to opperating temp. Whats the thoughts - ok to use?
Probably worry too much but would think being thicker when colder would cause more component wear?
cant remember how much halfords mineral cost..
how about this..?
]clicky - millers mineral oil (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-954-mineral-oil.aspx#Filter=%5BEntityIDs=@(57)@*ava=0)
though called running in oil :s
opie oils suggest 5-30 mineral. but thats just read.
