Grey, 54k, full history, 04 in lovely condition in and out. Broken engine.
???
What was the reason for engine failure? My \'91 FC is on 89k miles and the engine is still basically new.

To be confirmed but it looks like rear bearing failure.
Must still be a couple of grand surely?
For a couple of K you can buy a new crated engine from Mazda :) :driving
Or get an 13B Turbo engine ;)
Or a short block triple? :D

You can? Sounds cheap. Not doubting, just a little suprised.

You could also perhaps check around for any good used engine to drop in from people who have upgraded to an FC or FD engine.

Kids if it was mine I\'d be listening but I\'m trying to help a friend explore his options who, much as he loves his 8, isn\'t into the modding thing at all.
RX8\'s are selling for peanuts, with running ones to buy for around £3k on an 04 plate. Cant be worth paying more than £1k for a dead one.

Think he\'d snatch your hand off!
Something like this?

There are quite a few on ebay taken from cars that seem to be fully working for the 1,700 to 2k mark.

Ye running ones can be had cheap now which makes them a frikin bargain IMO. Don\'t suppose they are worth much to break either?
Check out Hayward Rotary, selling many an Rx8 with either rebuild or replaced engines for not a lot of money. The chap who bought my jetski was a car trader and he had one with a mazda replacement engine and he couldnt get £3k for it.
Loads for sale as well buddy, just check pistonheads and see how many are advertised and how many are sold.
If i was him i would break it rather than take the punt of getting it rebuilt and have to sell.
I\'ll say £100 and I\'ll give you £150 I would be paying way over the odds but your getting a good deal there as you an MRC member I feel obliged to offer a good deal... So what ya say :D
Martins right! 1k seems to be about right! I just bought a non runner for 800 quid. 55 plate black 231 with fsh and 44k from new fully loaded. Gonna keep my eyes peeled for a cheap and cheerful engine or maybe a complete crashed car and swap the lumps over and hopefully get some depreciation free motoring!
Paul - I know someone else who might be after a broken 8 as well so if your mate decides on a price and let\'s me know, I may well have a buyer for him
What martin and jit say £1000, even with a rebuild my mate struggled to sell his for about £2800.
Yep, I agree, £800-1000 is about right if it\'s got a dead engine.

Thanks Jit. Think I may end up buying it myself but for a non rotary conversion (not v8) cos the wife likes them, but she also likes torque and reasonable mpg  :D
I will certainly let you know how much if I decide against it.

looks like we are getting the same kind of value from everyone so thanks, and I will let him know tomorrow and go from there!

That link looks good, thanks. I will certainly make him aware of that option.

If I recall correctly this engine supplier was the subject of some discussion on the RX8OC forum. I\'m sure someone said they enquired about the "refurbished" RX-8 engines they were offering, only to discover they were NOT completely "rebuilt" with new seals, merely "cleaned/tidied up" engines. On that basis, a fully fitted and 2 year warranted engine from the likes of Haywards at £3k sounds a far better deal to me. I may be wrong, but if the "refurb" route is chosen, please check out EXACTLY what they offer in terms of new seals, etc.

I would / will do research if he decides to get it back on the road. Thanks for the heads up.
