Title: High value insurance
Post by: shifty on September 16, 2011, 12:59:30 PM
Basically I remember someone saying they had insurance that covered there car to a set value instead of book value,
What I mean is you have a car worth say 5k you spend 10k modding it but its still only worth 5K and some moron smacks into you and you need a new bumper and wing which comes to 2K after its all been imported fitted and sprayed so insurance write it of as a cat D cos its not economically viable is there any company that does a policy where you set the value of the car and they have to honour it.
Im with sky and they dont and they said you only get that on classic cars but there must be somthing surely.

Get it insured as a classic car then ;) if you have all modifications declared on your Insurance policy, which you should, and have receipts for all parts, work and paint jobs then an insurance company must have to cough up if you have a bump to replace the bits broken. If they don\'t then surely they are supplying you with a load of bull insurance.

Agreed value insurance is what you need if you can get it but as the RX-8 is still a relatively new car classic car company\'s don\'t offer this.

One way maybe is with a company called Reis as they have insured my RX-8 on an agreed value but to qualify you must have a modded car which you have and you must declare all the mods and prices of the mods,

Hope this helps

Best person to ask his Pete Taylor, I know for a fact that he got his highly modded FC Vert insured with an agreed valuation of 4 grand on it. PM him and ask who he was with at the time! :)

Sky do like for like but that still falls short if the repairs are over a third of the value of the joke they call book price.
I dont think I can get classic on my RX8
Take my bumper it costs around £600 in the states but with shipping prices now im looking at another £700 to ship it then there is customs and I still havent had it sprayed.
Its a con really.

The question running through my head is what happens when it\'s not your fault ? Does the other persons insurance have to honor the agreed value or does your insurance top up the difference ? I have the fb insured for quite a bit because of the 13b and LPG conversion.

I think if your insurance is an agreed price then the other has to honour it kinda like a value on a classic or a kit car.
