Title: Lower car tax for a Gen 2 ?
Post by: clive on June 24, 2004, 07:53:11 AM
I received the email below and wondered if anyone has been able to convert their Gen 2 log book to 1300cc to obtain lower road tax

1989 RX7 (EGI - 13B non turbo )  .   The guy I bought it from mentioned you can have the log book amended to show it as 1300cc to bring it down to the lower tax bracket - obviously it is a fact that the rotary is 1300cc but will the government allow me to do this??  If so do you know how I go about it as I\'m sure you\'ve encountered this question before.

I\'m afriad its the same old argument as with the FD\'s.  Yes it is possible to fiddle the system and ammend the log book provided it gets signed off by an appropriate garage and you take the car to a valid DVLA testing station.
Of course the flip side of this is that as Mazda agreed with the gov to classify the vehicles at apprx 2x their swept volume, you could effectively be commiting fraud.  Those people who have already performed the change risk being forced to re-classify and pay all the back tax.

Personally I\'d rather pay the extra and spend ages mnessing around with solmething that could well turn and bite you in the arse!
