What is kinda dangerous water temps for a TO4r singled FD with a koyo racing radiator?
It peaked at 93 the other day and the previous owner told me anything over 90 was bad news. So?
If over 90 is not great for the car then how can I go about avoiding this? I\'m getting a vented bonnet soon, what else?
And no, less right foot is NOT an option! ;)
Wouldn\'t worry about that temp, if it\'s from hard driving, what temp does your fans come on,
yea those temps are fine! My fans never come during my running period until 99 :eek: but after mapping they come at 86 :cool

is important to see the temperature of the oil,to optimize the temperature of the water, I suggest you change the coolant and do a complete purge of the cooling circuit.
My temp is:
temperature in summer in rome 30° 35°
My Oil temp in the traffic 90° is fine, in free road is 80° 85°
My water temp in the traffic 87° 90°occasionally93°, in free road is stable at 84° 85° :D
Good so not to worry if they shoot up from hard driving to mid 90s then? She\'s being mapped again soon so fans should be sorted then.
I\'m buying some new gauges soon, are the stock water temp and oil temp gauges in the dashboard 52mm? Thinking of replacing them with aftermarket gauges to make it look a bit more OEM. ;)
Have a look on rx7club.com there are some nice matching aftermarket gauges on there, Where they have changed the lot, speedo, rev counter etc.
Well not too bothered about leaving the stock gauges because I\'ll be changing the faces of them anyway to match. :)
What kinda inlet temps are bad as well? I hit 60 degrees in traffic in London the other day. :O
are you talking about the air intake temp? read on Apexi Commander?

not have a good intercooler, so I have the same problem.
with a good intercooler solves the problem, I thought about buying a V-mount kit.
in the traffic 60 is too high , should have 30 35 in the traffic.

well free road for me is max 20 in the traffic max 35 40 but it depends on outside temperature :Laugh
Its just the heat soak in traffic you see with the high numbers.
The important thing (I think) is to just bring the temps down to a reasonable level before you give it some punishment once you have left the traffic.
Ok I\'ll bear that in mind. I\'m thinking a cold air feed to the turbo would help right? So it\'s not sucking hot air in then compressing that and making it even hotter!
Anyone one done this on a single? Just saves the legwork so I can easily copy! :D
Don\'t worry too mucha bout the cold air feed -a few degrees won\'t make much difference after it\'s been squashed, expanded, cooled, etc.
Won\'t really help with heatsoak either - the problem there is the sensor getting battered by heat rising from the engine. For best results move the sensor to somewhere not having heat shot at it, (elbow is the usual choice) and ge ta fast reacting temp sensor from eBay.
IMO there are far better things to spend your time and money on than a cold air feed on a turbocharged and intercooled car.
And 90-something is fine for the water - due to the pressure it\'s not even boiling at 100. Start to worry when it\'s up near 120!

where is located the air temperature sensor?
then put a picture?
How about moving it to the elbow?
Not sure yet, I\'ll have a sniff around when I\'m back from work and it stops raining. :(
Seach eBay for RIAT: its a fast reacting air temp sensor, and a direct swap for the existing one under the UIM, no need to relocate the sensor.
Search RX7Club for the big cooling thread - 90 odd degrees is normal temp for these cars: coolant mixes under pressure don\'t boil until well over 110 degrees - and as long as its not boiling you are fine.
Oh, and when you check your temp after turning the engine off, don\'t panic when your water temp is through the roof... its just localised boiling of the water in the turbo and engine block because the waters not being circulated by the pump: its not doing any harm!
