Title: Air Con Removal
Post by: Mikey22 on September 04, 2011, 07:33:26 PM
How many people have removed their air con?

Does it serve any benefits?

I just think its a bit pointless in this sort of car but i could be wrong.

Im also looking at removing the cruise control.....again a bit pointless.

Yeah I removed mine. Its not easy if you want to keep everything in working condition - I didn\'t, so I literally ripped most of the pipework out (cut it). 3 main points:

- Weight reduction (about 15kg)
- Less engine drag from the compressor wheel (Get a non A/C belt to replace it with)
- Lose the huge aircon rad that covers the water rad. Helps water temps

It\'s not pointless - ever been in an FD in the summer?!?! It\'s a tiny cramped cabin in a car well known for creating craploads of heat! Start tuning the car, and it gets even worse!

It\'s one of the things I\'ve done that I wish could be undone - I pulled mine because I couldn\'t fit my cooling config in place with it still present. I really miss it.

My A /C haven’t worked over this summer and I really missed it, it was just too hot in the cabin…
Some weeks ago the compressor packed up and started too make a nasty noise Matt at Matt House changed the belt by passing the compressor and it made less drag on the engine which was immediately felt when I left the garage â€" the car was more responsive…

Having said that I will be fitting a working  A / C unit in the future â€" its simply too hot in the car in the summer
