Title: Nasty noise/vibration ???
Post by: slater1982 on August 31, 2011, 08:49:08 PM
hey guys,
  this is confusing me loads.

once i reach about 60 ish, i get a drumming noise and a slight vibration through the car, fells like its coming from the rear end. if i then brake, it gets a whole lot louder and really shakes the car a lot, all the way down to 0mph. then doesnt reappear until 50 or 60 ish again. its definitely speed related and not rev dependant.

the other weird thing is it doesnt do it every time  :xconfused

Any help would be much appreciated, cheers guys.

It might also be a slightly warped brake disk if causing vibration, are the pads and disks wearing evenly?

yeah they appear to be, although i did notice one rear wheel gets significantly warmer than the other 3 though.

i also had the diff seals done 3 or 4 months ago but it only started happening in the last couple of weeks, so didnt think this would be connected, surely would have been doing it straight away if it was them?

1 of the calipers might have seized causing it to always be rubbing against the disk, or indeed the handbrake cable might need adjusting

I had that too, turned out the balljoints in the rear suspension was worn (especially the one linking the lower camber arm to the wheel hub).

replaced them with AtomicRex balljoints and problem solved.
