Title: Side by side - TA45 and T88 turbos
Post by: m1tch on August 31, 2011, 05:53:30 PM
Hi everyone,

As its uncommon for someone to have either one of these turbos, I thought I would take photos to compare both the TA45 and T88 turbos that I currently have to show what the differences seem to be.

TA45 is on the left, T88 is in the middle, T25 from an S13 is on the right

Both have 4" inlets

The actual size and weight of the turbos are about the same, however from the shot below you can see how the TA45 can support more power:

Thats a slightly thicker compressor housing!

It also appears that the TA45 I have has a shroud added onto it held on with 3 grub screws - 1 of course is stuck! Which is why I was expecting a ported antistall shroud, I think I will keep the non ported shroud fitted though, will be running a BOV so don\'t need the ported shroud etc.

Anyhow, just thought I would post these photos up as its not often you can put them side by side!

from the pics the comp inducer looks smaller on the TA45 than it does on the T88.

I have just checked that, it seems that the T88\'s comp inducer is slightly larger, looks like about 2-3mm, although the whole housing on the TA45 is larger lol im sure that TA45 will still make big power!

just take the housings off and measure exducer in inducer of the comp wheel and the turbine wheel....that will give you a good indication.....remember bigger isnt always better...it bepends on the combination of wheels and housing sizes ...coupled with porting charateristics....will give you the perfect turbo for your application.

But it would be interesting to know..( maybe just for me ) but i would like to see how the measurements compare to a standard Ta45....thus letting us know what is the hybrid part of it.

I might do, although the TA45 has a grand total of 0 miles on it, so I don\'t want to break it!
