QuoteAnd that\'s just the basic car. Rotary Supercars also reckons on creating a 2800hp, 2580lb ft version with a 5.2-litre, quad-turbo eight-rotor engine. Performance for that? How about 0-62mph in 0.9secs and 0-250mph in 4.8secs?
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1047444&mid=0&nmt=RE%3A+German+Supercar+Aims+For+2800hp
That power level was quoated against the 8 rotor, the 4 rotor was talking around 1200 hp and similar torque.
Somehow I think 8 rotor in a car is a dream - but there is a 4 rotor boat engine making nearly 900 horses and similar torque and that is real. And over on the Rx7 club there\'s a 12 rotor made as three interleaved 4 rotor\'s - again destined for a boat...
but somehow I think it\'s probably just BS at this stage for these guys...
8 Rotor! The eccentric shaft in that bad boy will need to be beefy!
unless the strap two quads together
They could always go via the Bently/VW/Bugatti route of 2 engines mated to a common gearbox a la W12/16 engine?
The :censored::censored::censored::censored:pit would be like a sauna though 2 x 4 rotors worth of heat!
I read about a 4 rotor supercar -> here (http://www.topspeed.com/cars/car-news/rotary-supercars-preparing-their-own-bugatti-veyron-slayer-ar115093.html) apparently going to be better than a veryron.
And the tyre supplier is.....?
Sounds like another concept car burried in some teenagers fantasy dream garage. 0-250mph in under 5secs which is quicker than a top fuel funny car, believe that your`ll believe anything.
Some pics were leaked early this year showing their 4rotor hyper car which was nothin more than a badly photo-shopped nissan gtr and some ferrari love child.
I even doubt the company even exists.
If there is show me magazine features, utube vids, dyno figures..... I`ll believe it when i see clarkson and the boys testing it...:Yawn:Yawn
A 4 rotor twin turbo would need some intense cooling! The veyron has something like 13 radiators to harness the heat and make the car reliable.
By the power figures they\'re claiming, they\'re using peripheral ports?

aren\'t those mated on a single crank though? How would you get two E-shafts and flywheels to turn one gear box? Or am I being slightly thick here?

True (I think it\'s 11 though... Yes I\'m a geek) but I think \'only\' 4 of them cool the engine. The others do the air con, diff, oil and hydraulic fluid for the rear spoiler (seriously).
As has already been said, I think this is all a big wind up from someone who\'s had a tad to much and LSD one day :P
Adam
Yes but don\'t forget cooling the oil also takes heat away from the engine, and 2 big turbos on a 4 rotor would need an oil cooler of there own. The diff would need one too as the hp would cook a the diff without one, this car is also a road going super car so all the mod cons of the veyron would be in this car too, so it wouldnt be too far off the same amount of radiators of the veyron.
Well i hope it happens, might give Mazda a kick up the arse!

It will happen...because it has. They are on their third generation already ;) And yes that is of the 8 rotor!
You got some more info Rex?

:):):):):)
I don\'t believe 8 rotor engine will be installed in a coup or saloon designed Vehicle. You would need bigggggg engine bay!!!
Seeing is believing..
I am not convinced that you would ever see this happening in a real world. Come on, it can never be a cost effective exercise.
My two pence :-)
Mir
was the veyron cost effective Mir?
The Veyron was designed and built by the Volswagen Audi group, one of the biggest and certainly one of the most stable car manufacturers in the world. Even then selling it at a million quid made them a loss on every single unit sold. Only someone like VAG could afford to do this and not blow themselves right out of the water in the process.
There is no way this pipe dream will ever be made by some random blokes in a shed, and if it does ever get a prototype running it\'ll be an utter basket case of a lash-up. Never happen, never never never.
As Sayed pointed out, the practicality is ridiculous, you\'d need a bus to fit the engine architecture in. The 787B was a naturally aspirated four-rotor detuned to ~900bhp, who honestly thinks they could use even that with any amount of sense in a road car? Now double that and add quad turbo :3Confused? Unless they plan to detune it to the point it\'s an utter travesty. Or maybe rev limit it to like 2000rpm? Please, just wake up and smell the coffee.
Never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never happen :WaveBye
Syed would you consider your 20B conversion cost effective? Lol.
I would like to see the 4rotorTT version in a car as I would think it would be possible, you just need to cool it properly.
And let\'s be honest, if anybody would succeed in building a car like this, my money sure as hell would be on the Germans.
How long would an 8 rotor be? IF they used 13B housings?
8 x 80mm for the rotor housings
7 x ##mm for centre plates
1 x ##mm end plate
1 x ##mm front plate
I reckon it wouldn\'t be much longer than a skyline or supra engine?
Quote from: trotter;785509aren\'t those mated on a single crank though? How would you get two E-shafts and flywheels to turn one gear box? Or am I being slightly thick here?
It turns out they don\'t work the way I thought they would they are single common crank and you wouldn\'t be able to do it with a rotary. So it looks like inline 8 rotor, (repeat after me) it\'ll never work..... the W engines are like the VR6 engines in the Golf with a 15 degrees staggered V6 and two of those mated to a common crank at 90 degrees. no wonder they\'re so small (relatively speaking). :Giggle
I\'m waiting for atomic rex\'s input...

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :flamed:flamed
But its a modified engine and personal choice, whereas, the 8 rotor will be up and for sale to the general public. I just cant understand that to sort one rotor out from 8 rotors, I would have to strip the "WHOLE" engine :Nono!
Imagine you have a blown tip on a one rotor and you would have to strip everything to get to it, and to top it up, Once the engine is open, Water and Oil seals can not be used again, Oil in the sump can not be used and so many parts can not be used again etc etc etc..
it will be a money pit.... lolll

If that\'s what they\'re selling it looks like a nasty kit car lash up.
I wonder if they\'re running two 4 rotors in parallel with the shafts driving a central gear which drives the transmission. I think their claimed performance figures are far fetched to say the least. Utterly impractical for a road car too. Much more than 300 bhp in a car of 1500kg in the UK and your performance in a straight line is such that you\'ll never really exploit it on the road for fear of getting into license loosing territory alarmingly quickly. On track, without as-yet undeveloped tyre technology you\'ll be coasting around corners and deploying the power sparingly as you overheat your brakes and tyres. The car might survive on a drag strip but for drag racing you can get that sort of horsepower from far more simple engines. If one runs it\'ll be a white elephant, a self-licking lollipop.
Quote from: rossonza;785593was the veyron cost effective Mir?
With the initial run of only 5 cars it was never intended to make money. The VAG boss (Ferdinand Piech?) was quoted at the time as saying that it was done solely as a technical exercise "to see if it could be done" (that\'s where Jezza got his TG quote from).
However, with the fact they\'ve now sold close to 100 (IIRC) there\'s a good chance that it will be getting close to break-even.
And of course, this \'bottom line price\' doesn\'t include the net worth of the R&D that was done that can be used on future projects.
graeme
You won\'t need more than a quad rotor for crazy power and torque, anything more then you can\'t really get the power down to the road.

\'If a car like this was ever to make it to the street then i\'m sure it would have a veyron similar price tag and with that i dont think the people that can afford to buy one would worry to much about a few water seal kits and apex seals \'when\' it needs rebuilding. What they might get frustrated about is the fact it would never make it more than 1 journey before it would need said rebuild, new tyres (or landspeed car metal discs) and another gearbox :p
Adam
I think you need to give this project a little bit of slack.....this has been tested :)
Yeah, they tested anti-tank mine-carrying dogs in WWII, Jon. Doesn\'t mean it was either workable or a good idea in the first place :Giggle
You really dislike dogs dont you!
Unlike the example though......this has made numerous runs, and achieved the 0-60 in less than a second. Your example would have pretty much done one run and then been toast!
Quote from: AtomicRex;785962You really dislike dogs dont you!
Yeh. Hate them. You say that like it\'s a bad thing? I\'m not gonna be held responsible for experiments in canine warfare methodology carried out by the Russian army thirty years before I was born though :3Confused
With all due respect, where do you come by the facts and figures you seem so sure about, and all the inside information you
nudge nudge wink wink appear to have about the project? And would you care to share your source with us mere mortals?
I do agree with nik, share this information with us, videos and pictures would help. I have read on the rx7 forum that one of the rotary companies, CLR I think has/was in the process of building a 4rotor twin turbo for street driving. However the customer wanted it done privately and for himself.
We never saw any pictures/videos of it so that rumour just like this will remain rumours until we have been given proof.
I dare you to prove us wrong Jon. *poking you with a stick here* ha ;)
Oh and nik, (I love dogs by the way, before someone reports me for speaking of animal cruelty) the Russian exploding dog thing is disgusting, but the dogs got there own back from being put through that awful abuse by going and laying under the Russian tanks, of which they recognised, not the Germans tank!!!
Dogs 1 - Russians 0.5
But I\'m sure you already know that fact.

Would if I could......but sworn to secrecy, of which I\'m sorry but is the truth. I am working with a company that is involved with the car, so all I can do is confirm that what is being said isn\'t as unrealistic as it sounds.
Is it at area 51?
Adam
Atomic rex is just a big tease.
It\'s one of those situations where your "your on a need to know basis, and you don\'t need to know"
Quote from: Ada7;785971Is it at area 51?
Lol they got the specs for the engine from the ship that crashed at Roswell
Since we maybe or maybe not involved in this project all I can say is that I can\'t say anything.
Regards
Carl
Maybe Bruce wayne is having it built as his next bat mobile
Adam
Holy ficticious supercars, Batman!
So Carl also falls into the catagory of tease.
Well done mate !

Ahem, what ship?
Well I didn\'t want it to come to name calling to get some information but,
Liar liar pants on fire.
Hahahahahaha.
I hope the car is/isn\'t real because I have/have not actually seen a 6rotor e shaft so an 8 is more/less than possible/impossible
Confused yet?
I know CLS racing Grant. The guy who owns it is called Carlos. He is well known in the Rotary Community and I can believe that he is capable of building 4 Rotor Twin Turbo. He is very Competent. However, 8 Rotor Build ahammmmmm seems ????????
Mir
Apart from the bespoke 12 rotor boat engine, (3 x 4 rotor engines stacked, custom housings joined together).
8 rotor inline will be too long, this thread and the info on it is b***sh*t.
And Carl when I see a car of your in the tens , then I will believe you are involved, stick to being an expert in making 4 rotor FDs in the 15sec quarter miles hahahha just jesting :D
Everyone is forgetting the biggest stumbling block in the accel figures forcasted.
TYRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
frecking TYRES, they are no "Road" or semi road-track tyres designed to give you that accelaration quoated and give you decent cornering at the same time.
Unless they are planning to running Slicks, like mounted on top fuel dragsters, on the roads, then this is complete boooooolll*****
Even if you run F1 type slicks , you would not get the accel figures due to those tyres being designed for a 600 kilo car
Jon I gave you a lot a respect in I thought you knew what you were talking about, but 0-250 in 4.8 seconds on a road car, cmon , you must be on the jest lol
So there you have it lol
This deservers a sh*T picture with the car with a top fuel slick :Hammer
Quote from: Ada7;785971Is it at area 51?

No its Area B0l**cks
oh yeah I actually prefer the pic on the pistonheads thread, qualitttttyyyyyyy
^^ that looks perfectly sensible and eminently suited to warranted road use :Giggle
:HammerNow wouldn\'t we all look daft if it did exist and worked with the 8rotor.:Hammer
I think, reading between the lines the guys might be talking about a production 4 rotor car?
I would agree.
reading between the lines I think the guys have been smoking a bit to much weed lol
8 rotor is so last year anyway. What you need is a 12 rotor engine :p

maybe the eight rotor is going to be a four rotor but... wait for it... with TWO rotors in each housing!
