i spent over 10k on that car just for them to take it to peaces and make a grown man cry :(
I think the newspaper is correctly reporting on the car, its also the reason why my FC will never be for sale
(http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$%28KGrHqEOKkEE4iPIvj,QBOU8l%29w4B%21%7E%7E48_12.JPG)
im so so so so so so so sad :(
he doesnt know anything about it , the split rims are worth more then the car is at the mo lol and the coilovers are rsr coilovers in a1 condition, well they were when i got them :(
Considering its blown a tip, the owner obviously doesn\'t know how to look after it, hopefully that the car will sell to someone on here that actually knows what they are doing and hopefully doesn\'t put a V8 in the space! *shudder*
i might buy it back and restore it
O\'dear, looks like the guy started out with the best of intentions, sadly many cars never ever get finished when they arrive at this stage
I can already see Jit on this thread, perhaps vulturing for his spare parts emporium :2eek
Jesus! At least Jit just kills them quick and clean instead of letting them linger on coughing up blood.
Bit of surface rust on the flywheel there, d\'you reckon it\'d scrub off with use hahaha
Your new one\'s nicer, James, lol
Bet with a lick of paint that would be a very good shell for somebody.
Shame it looks in such a state now though !
Shaun
Looks like the current owner\'s period and comma keys were also stolen from his keyboard....
yer i prefer my current one, but your first rex is always the best :( might buy it restore it and let it have a good life again. thing is there was nothing wrong with the paint lol so why do that to it :(
the kid i sold it to was really nice tho but he did mention he knew nothing about them so kinda guessing his knowledge went as far as taking it apart and oops cant put it back again hehe
also it had a brand new turbo pack, engine, well everything lol
:Nono! poor rex :(
Hate it when you see something like this, hope someone can save it!
Yikes. Mucho sympathy. I would hate that to happen to me!
In fact, when it became time to sell my last project car, (Nissan Pulsar GTi-R), I could hardly bring myself to write the advert, let alone stick it up for sale.
When you have years and thousands invested in something that you treasure, selling ain\'t an easy thing to do, especially when you think about how a new owner may treat it.
Luckily, I ended up selling it to my eldest son (for a song), so at least I am able to see it now and again and offer assistance in keeping it up.
So far, so good....:)
OMG!!!!!! do you know this car http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270805108168?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1431.l2649 - ive been bidding on it as a restoration project. jamison1982 you saw my \'im new here post\' ill have it and his arm up to the shoulder if someone here knows the car!!!!!!!
Ben

Lol, stating what i would pay, There is a lovely black auto on here for £2000, Needing a rebuild, Id be looking at that rather than your old one, shame its been detroyed.:Nono!
£1500 for that? Really? Thats stupid money for an early FD with a knackered engine and knackered bodywork. I know of a 97 FD that just needs a front end and putting back together for £3500 and has a rebuilt engine in it already?! Im sure you could twist his arm to get the car with a blown engine for £2300. Either that or Andygs immaculate shell is worth a look at £1500 but it does need a front bumper, interior and running gear but the bodywork is absolutely immaculate and probably the best base to start from.

Andys shell is lovely, Had a look at it the other day when i picked some bits up, Mint, so tempted to re shell mine.:burnout
I think its comfortably the best FD shell Ive ever seen especially paintwork wise. And ive seen a few!
i thought it was getting silly and luckily i had the sence to stop! i think he\'s got a mate to bid on it if im honest and wouldnt be surprised if i get a second chance offer - my first bid was £500 and within a couple of hours i was outbid, left it a while then started to see how far up it went today and yesterday! there are 15 bids on the car and 14 are mine! im torn now tho how much are the wheels, coilovers, exhaust, diff etc etc worth?
i could see the car back to its former glory for about £1500 (3rd gen 13b rebuild kits are way cheeper than renisis kits :eek:and i have a few mates with body shop garages (as does everyone :rollin)
the problem im having is i just dont know what im looking at or for really - i know the 8\'s so well ive (touch wood) made money on for real diamonds in the ruff every time - guess i just need to spend more time around here
Personally dont like the wheels, tbh , knowing what I know now and have seen, when you do a 7 up. You get what you pay for, I wish Andy g was selling his shell when I was looking, I would of saved a lot of £. You think its gonna cost you this and it cost double, I\'ve spent £6500 so far, working it out if I\'d bought a mint shell, I would of spent £4500. Engine rebuild parts for the fd, minimum £1000, unless you gotta change rotors, housings, irons. Costs can double. It\'s never cheap taking on a project started by someone else lol.
Start with a great base. IMHO
 where on earth are you buying your rebuild kits from? id be :censored::censored::censored::censored:ed if dan at atkins charged me more than a $1100 for a master rebuild kit for an fd + postage and import tax might be creaping up towards £1000 but still
and it doesnt look like much of a project to me - a lick of paint and an engine rebuild then put her back together - how hard can it be right :2Confused

I only use oem, not saying others are no good, but that\'s all I use.
You\'ve obviously never rebuilt an FD engine before! I\'d go along with Keiths £1000 minimum! And if that FD owed me 3k with a basic soft seal rebuild and a cheap and cheerful respray, I wouldn\'t consider that to be a bargain at all! I\'d probably see it as a long winded way of getting a car at the correct money. That assumes the rest of the car is decent.
ok ok ok lol it wasnt a ridgid price plan and obviously thered be room for play regarding price - and obviously you\'d have to plan for the failure of major engine components etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc - i get it chill out! haha
And yes your right! ive rebuilt a few rotaries but never an FD, am i in for a shock? same engine, same design right? bar the periferal exhaust ports?
also are the Atkins Apex seals considered soft in the FD world? is it worth beefing up to 3mm single piece? stock springs are ALWAYS used of course - and yes your right if you use OEM parts throughout the rebuild does get a fair bit more expensive
Quote from: Benedunn;785291and it doesnt look like much of a project to me - a lick of paint and an engine rebuild then put her back together - how hard can it be right :2Confused
id didnt litteraly meen a lick of paint! it would be going for a full respray! i was thinking about something custom
:D
Personaly would not use 3mm, if you want hardened seals, the best route is oem cyro (if that\'s how it\'s spelt lol) treated, and treated corner seals with new housings. That way you will get even wear and not suffer compression issues, IMO , and just remember it a 20 odd year old car, not a rx8. .
Good luck with your plans and whatever you purchase. :3gears-rh
they dont look much like a 20 odd year old car tho :2eek
and its \'Cryogenically Treated \' but cryo is better and easier to work with :cool
atkins apex seals are generally pretty good! but thats not to say they dont wear - ive seen apex seals advertised as unbreakable and often are! but unbreakable doesnt make them resiliant to wear these \'hunky\' seals normaly wear the worst - great for massive boost race cars but not so great for day to day stuff - ceramic apex seels are the only ones that bearly wear at all over long periods but are prone to shattering under detenation so no good for the FD - also insanley expensive!
keep the tips coming chaps - it would seem im gonna need it :o
with regards to the new housings! is replacing them on every build common practice? seems excessive if the chrome hasnt any damage and all is within spec? also would probably break the bank knowing how often you guys like to swap engines :evillaugh
Not on every rebuild, I\'m just saying the route I would go if I wanted hardened seals, I would use new housings so I got even wear.
Didn\'t see this post you put up here james.
Sorry i sent you the link but i thought you had a right to know.
Looks worse than it is, lick of paint and an engine, job done
