Hey guys,
Looking for a bit of info from you.
There\'s a 1st Gen S2 for sale near me, and I\'m thinking about having a squint at it.
I\'ve found this:
http://www.rx7fb.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=36
Which points out the usual suspects for rust areas.
Now, having had a few \'70\'s & \'80\'s Ford\'s & VW\'s, I\'m not shy to turning a spanner, but I\'ve never had many dealings with rotarys.
So just looking for any tell tale signs from the engine telling me that I should walk away.
Also, what is the availability of spares? Everything from engines/boxes to general stuff like bearings/brakes.
Or any general stuff that I should check out on the car.
So, thats about it really guys, if you could help me out so I\'m not walking into it blindly, it would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Chris

We\'ll throw some tips your direction...
Hi Chris, Welcome is the S2 Red?
Have a look in the 1st Gen Section on here, particularly the \'How Many 1st Gens still Running\' Thread.
We get all the parts we need from one place or another, many people go shopping in USA.
Whatever you do, check out inside the back wheel arches for rust or a bodged repair, also the back sills/ floorpan underneath.
Engine - if it starts happily and pulls strongly, with reasonable oil press then probably it\'s sound. Smoking a little when cold is usual. Gears can be slightly notchy....normal. Rear Axle will possibly have a weep but it will do that to eternity and not want fixing.
Steering is wonky/wobbly at it\'s best. There\'s an Idler on the N/S that often has worn bushes. Easy Fix.
Fuel Tank leaks are a problem as no spares these days.
Good Luck
Cheers guys
CB - I\'ll drop you an email just now :)
David - Yeah, it\'s the same one as that the guy was asking all the questions on here, barn stored for years then he got it.
try and find a club member locally who knows these cars and can take a look at it for you....
this car was for sale in March for £450...

.
it was £450 for a reason.... I\'d get it checked over very carefully before shelling out any money for it.
.
Yeah, I knew it\'d been for sale at £450 before.
From reading the threads on here, seems as if the guy who bought it has replaced the radiator, the exhaust, MOT\'d & Tax\'d it.
Currently up for £900 on PH

my point is that in the world of 1st gens, you don\'t get much for £450 and the car will have been priced at that figure for a reason.... makes the need to check it thoroughly all the more important.
Yeah, I understand that mate.
Like I said, was just wanting to know what to look out for if I do go to see it.
also ask why the original series 1 front bumper is not on the car.
it looks like a series 2 or 3 bumper, but if the rest checks out then should be able to source one somewhere i suppose.
good luck and give it a good think before deciding etc.
I think it\'s an S2 Spod?
I believe it\'s an import car? (with the wing mirrors not door mirrors).
ok, thought it was a series one with the side markings.
that front bumper still doesn\'t look right to me though.
