Hi guys
So I noticed on my power fc commander that the air temp reading was displaying ----
Then goes back to showing temp....intermittently reads between both. So decided to upgrade to a racing airtemp sensor. When I removed the uim, the original air was still screwed into the uim but not plugged, instead the wires were sliced to another sensor that was cable tied to a metal plate underneath the uim. The connecrikn was loose hence the loss of reading on pfc.....but my question is why would they put the ait in this location and second would I be better of fitting my new riat into stock ait location or out it where the existing one is......I dont see how having the sensor external of the uim wi get accurate reading......am I missing something? Thanks
Put the RIAT in the UIM. The only reason I can think for this ridiculous mod is if the owner wanted to measure underbonnet temps but was too tight to buy a seperate guage. This was risky as hell, because the engine needs to know air temp to ensure the fuelling/ignition timing are right and reduce the risk of detonation at high temps.
You might find that the sensor strapped down underneath is actually the fuel temp sensor if the secondary rail has been upgraded. Double check the wiring colours.
The secondary fuel rail was upgraded to kg1680\'s.
Fitted the riat and works great. Much more responsive than stock iat and pfc picks it up instantly.
As for the other sensor....wiring was brown yellow....brown black.I think.both with white marks down the wire. I dont.get it cos the sensor tip is not in or touching anything :s
Also, is it a problem if both wires from a sensor are touching? I soldered both riat wires to original wiring, then.taped them up, but like an idiot forgot to put heatshrink over soldered wires, so inside the electrival tape they mighr be touching....problem?
Yes, problem, as there will be next to no resistance if the wires are touching, and its the resistance that indicates the temperature
Thanks,
Car is running so much better now,can\'t believe such a small sensor can make that much difference!!!
