asking for help and advice here, as the title says, how do you de honeycombe the rear lights?
how the smurf do you do it.
all ive heard is that you have to put the lights into your oven.
sounds strange but if its correct its ok as i have my old set of lights to practice on and then watch them melt away :] ha
I\'m not sure what you mean mate, which rear lights do you have?
replaced the standard boring lights with the kouki turbo ones, and you can de-honeycombe them to make them look clear, if you know what i mean.
perfect example:

bottom of that thread you posted couple of pics, the sexy white fc has it done to its lights.
(i was tryin to put pics up but it wont let me :[ )
You put them in piping hot water - not in the oven (they will melt).
This will soften the \'hot melt\' glue that holds the light lens onto the plastic back cover - once you get it off - and it will take you ages - so be patient - you can remove the grey lensed sheet that sits between the bulb/reflector assembly and the outer coloured lenses.
It does mean the lights aren\'t as evenly lit as before and it also reduces viewing angle -but some people like the look of it.
righto, thats great stuff thanks for the info,
ill give it a go on my old standard pair of lights 1st as an experiment,
obviously need to get the glue gun out or something to stick them back together i imagine??
I\'m sure there is a write up on RX7club.com about this. They used the oven method.
ill have a gander later and try find more info out, currently got half of 1 of my old lights in piping hot water so will see how that method turns out.
Let us know, and after photos! I\'d wondered about doing mine.
Found my old link - lol

good thread and information :]
the hot water method didnt seem to do much yesterday but i think ill try it again today but also try and attack it with a screwdriver at the same time.
however i do think using a proper heat gun would work out best.
Oven on low is supposed to be good, my mate did this withe his Mk2 Golf lights and they looked uber cool.
i am rather tempted to put them in the oven just to see what happens, ill definately give it a go if the other methods dont work.
right i got bored, and its a good job i did get bored because i tried the oven method and i am to offically say that its TOTALLY AWESOME...
after about 15mins at a low heat you can start to seperate the light lens from the plastic cover, half of it didnt seperate so easily so put it back into the oven for 5 mins more. just make sure to keep an eye on everything as i imagine the heat could start to warp the plastic.
however on my old lights the honeycombe stuff is built onto the lenses itself so im not sure how you would remove it apart from maybe heating that up and then scraping it off or something,
not sure if its different on the kouki lights or not but i doubt it will be.
(also i do have pictures of this but i cnt seem to get them onto here, no idea how its done, not sure if its because im just a guest?)
If you use something like photobucket you should be able to post pics using the little yellow icon at top of the message box.
ah right i see, ill have a go at that later tonight perhaps. cheers.

still no idea about how to get rid of the honeycombe stuff, possibly have to get new lenses that fit or make some fit that are clear without the honeycombe.
going to seperate 1 of the kouki lights tomorrow and see if its any different inside compared to these ones.

when ya open it ya will see how, i used an oven,
i am now very intrigued by what you\'ve said \'flatout\'
its now 1am and im tempted to go put the oven on ha :]
The TII lights are different. Go get cooking! What sort of temp are you doing it at btw?
i had it on the lowest setting on the fan assisted oven, think it would melt within a minute if i had it on full blast. the lowest temperature worked fine and didnt cause any damage or warping to the lights.
(duno why i emailed you btw, obviously should of just chatted away on here)
SUCCESS!!!
completed it and it was much easier than the other lights because once you have heated up the glue and got the light apart you simply just lift out the honeycombe pieces, they are seperate lenses unlike the other lights where it was just one lens with the honeycombe built onto it.
pictures to show it:

all i need to do now is get them cleaned up and looking nice, then put them back into the oven for a couple minutes to reheat the glue up and then get them back into their perfect position and leave them to set, then probably laquer them to make them look nicer and cleaner.
I\'m confused
Surely the light cluster in #17 are different to the ones in #23
That looks good, what temperature did you have oven on? Also how do they look when they\'re lit Up? Any different, pics?
yeah john they are indeed different, i was just using them to practice on to see if they would melt or warp or anything so that if anything went wrong it didnt happen to the kouki ones :]
and im guna put the 1 back together 2nyt and compare it when its lit up and ill take some pics,
got a cricket match to go play right now tho :]
going to do this with my lights but adding a twist :) glad you did it man, nice to see photos of the internals as well, good job :)

I\'d really like to understand this as I think the round lights look good but am I right in thinking the internals of a t11 cab have the rectangular sections inside.
if they have can you still do this conversion?
John
which rectangular sections do you mean?
if u have the round lamp lights and open them up you can then just take out the honeycombe pieces like i have done,
only rectangle pieces left are the white reversing bit and the long red reflector piece along the bottom of the light.
but if you have the other lights, standard ones (the ones i practiced with putting into the oven) that type of light cant be de-honeycombed because it is built into the lens, you would have to get or make new lenses which are clear and fit correctly.
Going to save this topic in case i decide to do the same.
But i do think the glass should be smoked to get it a bit darker.

finished product.
you cant really tell here in this picture but these lights are bright even when the honeycombe stuff is still inside them and now without the honeycombe stuff they are even brighter. i like it :]
hopefully this thread can help many other people :]
Yeah looks good that, when I get te guys I\'ll do this to mine. Good thread :)
Right, time to buy a can of tinting spray and get ready to do this to mine, but much darker!
