Well, at Rotorstock Prof diagnosed me having 2 problems:
1.The actuator having a weak spring, and so opening at 0.4 bar, to which we can\'t find a solution other than fitting another actuator.*
2. Car running without O2 sensor reading, so running rich map while cruising. Has anyone got a wiring diagram showing the wiring for the sensor? My Haynes manual doesn\'t seen to have one. Alternatively just give me the colour of the wire and a photo of where it\'s meant to be, and I\'ll compare it to mine. I KNOW mine might not be right, because the wiring got pulled off a while back, so we soldered it back onto the only exposed wire in the general vicinity, so technically it should have been the right one.
Thanks!
*So who was the guy I was speaking to who was talking about fabbing some adjustable arms up?
That would be. Its a work in progress but as and when I have more information I\'ll keep you updated.
From memory the O2 sensor only has one wire that goes from the plug to one of the wires that runs accross the front of the inlet manifold. Not sure of the colour as mine was charred and had to be trimmed back and replaced.

I can look in the wiring manual tonight - it\'s hard copy and for the right hand drive cars - so it will be correct - unlike that dodgy pdf and the Haynes (which is from the dodgy pdf). By Dodgy - it\'s only as far as wire colours go :)
It could of course just be an earthing problem - as the O2 sensor is 1 wire, and gets it\'s other connection through the exhaust and to ground.
According to the Manual - the wire colour for the O2 sensor is Black - but it also shows it as a shielded cable - the outer shield is cut back before the connector.
Thanks.
Any photos of where exactly it is that it joins the loom? I\'m pretty sure I know, but want to make sure.
I believe its this black connector next to the white connectors that plugs into the BAC:

A connector? Oh yay, another thing that has been snipped sometime in the past. *sigh*
Now I\'ve got to trace it and make sure I\'m connected to the right wire, which from memory, isn\'t black. I think it\'s a browny colour. And I KNOW it\'s really short, because it\'s been trimmed several times. *bigger sigh*
Thanks though!
I will check tomorrow for you, I think it was shorter, but I replaced mine with a generic sensor and then cut the wire at the OEM one and soldered the 2 together.
See piccy, that is the wire I\'ve got it connected to right now. Must be wrong though, right?

I think that\'s the correct one - it is shielded - and the centre conductor is black - the error 17 you get suggests that the ECU does see the O2 sensor, but it doesn\'t return expected readings - which means a possibly bad earth (where the 0v reference is getting \'lifted\' and skewing the reading from the sensor - or the sensor is non responsive - is it an old one ?
I\'d suggest running a good earth to that side of the engine, and make sure that one of your exhaust bolts is half way decent so that you get an earth contact. There is an earth for the gearbox nearby - goes on to the bulkhead - make sure that one is good.
hi m8 i have a brand new ngk O2 sensor £50 + post
I didn\'t see your reply Prof! Shall I just run another earth from that side of the engine to the engine bay, to simplify things?
It\'s worth a shot - the earths on the FC\'s are notorious for going \'bad\' over time. There is a good write up by Aaron Cake on the rx7club about redoing the earths - as adding new ones sometimes doesn\'t actually fix anything. It might be worth touching the metal case of the O2 sensor (when cold) with a multimeter lead, whilst having the other one connected to battery negative - you are looking for the resistance measurement - low ohms is good - the lower the better.
