Hi guys,
Should be picking up my new single turbo FD either this Sunday or next week?
Few quick questions.
Is there a kind of checklist that I can print off to take to the viewing? I know the supra forum has one and was wondering if there was something similar on here....
Furrthermore, how easy is it to reinstall the air con on a single? :)
Many thanks,
Edd
Have you got a link to the car?
Have you already put a deposit down without checking the car over yet?
No I haven\'t guys. It\'s a car on here, the HKS T04 one in red. I test drove it the other day and it\'s amazing so I need to have it! Haha
Going to check it over this weekend or next week and if it\'s fine there and then there is no reason to wait and dick around with a deposit... If you see?
And no, I\'m not silly enough to put a deposit down without checking! lol
cool, just checking, lol! RX7s always need a good looking over before money changes hands.
Yeah that\'s what I\'m saying! is there something I can print off to take with me?
Or a sticky with all the specific checks to make? Too tired to be trawling the forum for hours amalgamating all the information myself...
Any help appreciated guys. :) Really looking forward to joining the FD ranks.
Guys?
Trawling away here! :(
if its an owner off here then it should be looked after so you\'re ok.
HOWEVER... no disrespect to anyone (ive not seen who put the advert up) but in general i\'d do at least the following:
1) get recent compression test results (not the be all and end all but worth knowing) - offer to pay for the test (£50) if results are good
2) check the oil, nice clean stuff, not thick black gunk - shows the previous owner knows what he/she was doing
3) Check she starts well from cold AND hot - stuggling is an early indication of apex seal failure
4) If you\'re REALLY paranoid do a \'Champagne Test\' (search on here) to check for water seal failure. At the very least open coolant cap (the middle one next to the alternator) and look for bubbles/smell for exhaust fumes
5) Check for smoke on start up. A little is normal. Mine can, and egularly does, fill my garage up to the point of making my eyes water, but lots isn\'t. It should clear after 5-10secs max
6) As always look at previous receipts, particularly recent MOT advisories (the yellow one). I always keep mine to show what needs done if i havent fixed it.
7) Might be worth asking the last time spark plugs/oil filter where changed.
8) Ask if the car has an Apex\'i PFC ECU fitted. If it does then check for the \'HEAT\' dash light going on and staying on - indication of a failure, sometimes simple, sometimes not. (Can\'t check which one unless there is a Commander fitted)
9) If a PFC and the above \'HEAT\' light flashes during driving don\'t get too worked up. If it flashes three times its the knock warning (ignore, stock sensor is shee-ite). If it repeatedly flashes it\'s injector duty warning - possible indication that it hasn\'t been mapped properly.
best i can think of just now

Trotter,
Stunning! Thank you so much, amazing information.
I already know the results of half of the above when I quizzed him on the test drive. Will get the bonnet up and under the car on the weekend.
With regards to the Apexi PFC, it does in fact have one fitted and I enquired about that "Heat" light being illuminated. What does this indicate? Is that a good sign that it has the PFC and the light is illuminated? :wiggle
It starts from hot fine because we went for a test drive then pulled up afterwards chatted for 5mins and he drove away fine. Also, when we swapped seats it was warm and started first spin of the starter so very impressed.
Finally, he mentioned something about when you leave it up for sometime rev it up to 3000rpm then take the key out with your foot flat on the floor to introduce air into the engine and clean it out or something...
Anyone know anything about this technique and what not? He said it is to prevent water seal failure and he obviously knows a bit more than me. Keen to prolong the life of the engine so is this good practice and no harm will be done?

That is the advert link.
Lastly, (promise!), how easy is it to reinstall the air con on a single? Can it even be done?
:D :cheers
Who\'s going to JAE as well? If I get here she should be there on the celica club stand! Haha :D :D
my single does 6mpg if i put aircon back in and always on prob 4mpg lol, i wouldnt bother, just open the windows lol that way you get to hear toe exhaust better :)
the car looks good to me, congratulations mate :D
If its James\' (i think it is) your going to look at your on to a winner. The guy knows how to look after RX7s and has had many in the past. Best of luck with it, pretty sure its a real monster as well so be carefull ;)
No problem buddy. :)
I\'ll be at JAE on the NipponOwners stand (just listen for the pounding tunes!).
You mean there will only be 996 celicas there this year??? :P
If the HEAT light is on and stays on the PFC is indicating a sensor failure somewhere. Depending what it is it may or may not be bad. If he\'s removed the OMP (oil metering pump) and is running pre-mix in the fuel tank (essentially dump 2-stroke oil in when you fill up) and not isolated the sensor it could be this. HOWEVER, there is 8 or so different sensors it monitors so could be any. Easiest way to check is to look at the Hand Commander as it highlights whats reading as failed.
The 3k shutdown is used when you\'ve either driven a very short distance (avoid!!) or when storing up for a while. It lets the rotors spin after shutdown and forces any fuel left in the engine out as if left standing it can eat the water seals.

EDIT: just looked at the advert, I think you\'re good - he knows what\'s what :)
Good that provides me with a lot of confidence that he has a solid reputation on the forum. :)
I\'ll quizz him about the light, I know he told me what it was but I\'ve forgotten! Something about EGT I think...
So the air con can be done? It\'s just I\'ll be using it quite a bit, not just a track slag or weekend toy a little bit of mixed driving so the air con would be nice for when sitting in traffic in the summer, which will inevitably happen! Plus, helps with the demisting in the winter too. :)
Gonna hopefully go pick it up Sunday! :D
Im jealous if its the low red one it looks real tough
a/c wont be hard to do you can get all the parts second hard cheap enough
as long as theres still room for a condensor at the front and he hasnt cut off the pipes into the car id imagine the wiring will still be there
its not to complicated just refit and gas.
the heat light is used as a management warning so it made just need checking
as your local pm me and ill plug it in for you if you want to be certain.
Stock RX7s have a heat sensor connected to the cat. When some people decat they don\'t earth the heat sensor which causes the heat light on the dash to stay on. No biggy.
Haha yeah it is the low red one! :P Might take you up on that offer dude.
So it\'s got an Apexi and the light is on, can I just read the code on the hand commander?
Can\'t wait guys! :D I\'ll jump on this air con as well and sort it out.
Also, what is considered as a "short journey"? I know they\'re bad for the cars so will try to minimise them but sometimes cannot be avoided completely.
Would it be that it doesn\'t reach operating temperature? Is that a short journey? Moreover, what after care and driving procedures should I undertake on short journeys? No boost obviously but what else?
Thanks :cheers
Picking her up tomorrow! :wiggle
basically drive it under partial throtle (no boost) till it\'s warm. If you have to shut it down before its up to temp then do the shut down procedure that i mentioned. if its only just got up to temp i\'d still do it. Personally I never drive it without letting it warm up, I\'ll always just nip to the shops or something if i needs it
