Title: Performance issue, no Boost, limp mode?
Post by: Brooktini86 on August 16, 2011, 09:26:12 AM
Hi all,

Sorry posted this in wrong section before....

I did briefly mention my problem when I introduced myself on here a few days ago.

But here goes:

* Test drove the car well, took it out for a good run. - All perfect
* Went back to the dealer, sorted few bits of paperwork and brought the car.

* About 10 minutes after the initial test drive, drove it 100 miles back to Worthing (non-stop) - All perfect.

* Parked at the pub to go show it off to my friends.
* About 30 minutes later, went to drive home - No boost, sluggish and when I put my foot down it just burped, backfired and felt like it was going to stall until I take my foot off the (not so) loud pedal.

I can hear the 1st turbo spooling up, but 100% not doing anything.
If I slowly push down on the accelerator, the revs slowly rise (any sudden movements and the car backfires etc again until I release the pedal).

* Left the car over-night (Good 11/12 hours). In the morning, took it for a drive, warmed her up. - All perfect again.

* Turn off engine, left for 2 hours, back to being terrible again.

The car is now with Jason at Super7Autos for this problem, a service and changing the HKS airfilters over for standard airbox.

He seems like a top fella and VERY knowledgeable, but just thought I would post on here to see what you experts think

Look forward to your responses!

Hi there. I had a very similar problem. Mine was the standard ECU going into limp mode due to a faulty OMP. I\'m sure Jason will be able to sort it and find the source of the problem.

He has told me the same thing, ECU going into limp mode, believes its because of the solenoids or coil packs? Gotta call him tomorrow to find out for sure.

Is it throwing any codes? If a boost solinoid had failed (usually the secondary turbo on an FD) then it would still boost but wouldn\'t really go into limp home mode, so probably a sensor gone bad?

Couple of codes, he is replacing the solenoid block (I think), 2 of them were faulty and was pushing the cars ECU into limp mode.
Hopefully Jit supplying the part tomorrow for Jason and I could actually get my car back before the weekend!
(only had it one day before it going in the garage :( )

Ok... So... I have the car back and it was driving lovely (felt like a different car from before).
But now after a "hard" drive, it seems the cat sensor on the exhaust has fallen out, only noticed after I heard it scraping along the road!

Following this, the cat overheating light has come on and there are VERY loud bangs (which I can physically feel through the drivers seat) coming from around that area of the exhaust.

Can someone please tell me that this is normal behavior for an RX7 with a missing exhaust heat sensor?
