seen this at japfest a few months ago and noticed it on ebay
rob
2.8k...up to 3k...now off ebay.
Strange it was bidded on up to 3k with 3+ days to go on the auction and now it\'s goooone? Top dollar IMO for a rx replica...especially with the chrome painted and racing stripes.
it sold for 4k
Quote from: tyson23;783531it sold for 4k
seriously!
a- its a 929 not an rx4 although still pretty rare
b-its missing a whole ton of trim, if not all except the bumpers!
Only one peice of trim was missing Rob, the rear plate in ally that covers the back of the boot area.
When Dan finished it it looked really nice! Wish I could have bought it!
How\'s yours coming on?
Regards
Carl
4k!!! Mine must be worth double that then? Not that I will be selling it.
hi all...
I brought this last week
I was told the 929 is the RX4?
Was a little upset this morning, took the car to work today and the clutch went, only had the car 5 days and its already set me back £250 :(
Anything else I should watch out for?
It is actually a 929, converted to be a rotary powered rx4. Don\'t worry however as it is probably just as rare a car as what an rx4 is. You have still got a good car though.
As for price, nobody can really say how much they are and aren\'t worth as there just isn\'t that many around. I have an rx4( currently being rebuilt by me) Clive has one running on the road, Jojo on here has one running on the road, rob Matthews has just bought one built it needs rebuilding too. There is a guy called ray that races one and that is about it, so you are in one of the smallest/rareist car owners club there can be, I can honestly say I have seen more Ferrari enzos than rx4s and they only made a hand full of those buggers!
I will try show you what bits you have missing if I have a picture to load up but I wouldnt worry too much about it as those bits are very hard to get hold of anyway.
And £250 for a clutch is a very good price.
These cars won\'t cost you much but I suggest you change plugs and oil as per Mazda recommendations. Or alternatively give one of the rotary garages a call and they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
I believe Carl at Hayward rotary is all ready familiar with your car as it has passed through hands to get to you, so give him a call and I\'m sure he will sort you out.
My apoligies if i got it wrong thought the guy who owned it said he was after some of the external chrome trim as it was missing?, i remember him wanting the chrome for the front of the wings, but and as grant has said the 929 is just as rare, and prices just depends on the day and who your up against.
I think im right in saying the 929 was mazda\'s \'regular\' car and the rx4 was the souped up sportier version with the rotary engine fitted along with some extra comforts inside such as carpet on the door cards?
Mines getting closer to being started lol i know been saying that for weeks but with the effort im putting into the track car i dont wana let the standard i like to think is quite high slip just to start the rx4 project !
all good things come to those with patience, eventually
Gllad the car has gone to a good home and hope you enjoy her :)

I had this car when it still had the piston engine in, but it\'s had a lot of work done since I had it, however I remember the shell was pretty straight, with only minor welding required.
The main item missing is the rear trim, see http://classicmazda.co.uk/graphics/P1010181.JPG .They are easily damaged and are like hen\'s teeth to get in good condition. There are some other badges missing, there should be rx4 and 12re badges on the rear quarter, but I wouldn\'t worry about that as personally I think it suits the de-chromed style and it keeps people guessing :Giggle
The other differences are the fuel tank, the 929 is smaller and the tacho is red lined at 6500 on the rotary, but less on the 929 at 6000 maybe.
I\'ve got a few articles on my website, see http://classicmazda.co.uk/history.html some of the links are broken, as it\'s an old page.
It certainly looks pretty stunning and hopefully now the clutch is sorted should let you have some fun in it!
Hi Ray !
Great to see you on the club. Do you still have any FB bits ??
Shaun
Nice car you have there... don\'t think £4k was unreasonable, i looked at paying close to £3k for a 77\' 929 coupe with the merc style front ( less desirable) in 2002! Didnt buy but got my RX4 coupe in the end this year...
your missing tail piece should look like this...
(http://inlinethumb22.webshots.com/46933/2176836670103320357S600x600Q85.jpg) (http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2176836670103320357kYIPnE)
And when in place something like this... ( i think i may have my lights the wrong way around!)

I can help with the lock surrounds ( currently got three i think) and the boot piece but my spare one has been painted black and doesn\'t have a rotary badge. Can get a repro badge here if req..

Rear panel also has some dings etc from storage. No idea what postage from Australia to UK would be but if you get really stuck let me know.
Your also missing the badges on the sides, i expect like mine they were removed and holes filled. Avaliable here as reproductions..

I also have a spare rear headlining panel ( the one with fuel low light, seat belt light etc) Not sure if 929 coupes had them, the 77 one i looked at didnt but that may have been due to being a facelifted model. Anyway again, i have one but its quite heavy!

Shaun
FB bits? sorry i am really new to this...
An FB is a first generation rx7, they came out just after the rx4\'s.
Then came the FC, then the FD. But there was different models per generation. It gets confusing at times, I don\'t think everyone knows every difference between them.
hi all... i need longer bolts for the wheels? anywhere i can get any?
the rear axcel is a non standard, and the bolts coming from the hubs are too short...
anyone know where i can find a set from?
eBay. Theyre cheap too. Just measure the ones you have, add 10mm and they should do. Make sure you get the right size diameter and correct thread pitch.
thanks all for your help...
next question, looking for a rear axle... anyone have one?
Why do you need an axle?
I reckon you got a bargain there to be honest, RX4 or not. We had a 929 Coupe (might be the one mentioned earlier) which I had always intended to fit a rotary into. For whatever reason we sold it which I kind of regret now. But I do have a genuine RX4 Coupe which needs restoring, it\'s a late model japanese import, with a 13B and auto box. Hope to make a start on it once my barn is built. Phil

Why is there no picture of it? There\'s so many cars popping up lately, if only I had the space!!!
i know, it really irritates me when people list cars on ebay with no pictures and next to no information!
Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;786012Why do you need an axle?
the one on the car is non standard and is too wide... would stuggle holding deep dished wheels

so when looking for engine and gearbox parts do i ask for 929, RX4 or someone mentioned RX7 parts?
also how often should i change the plugs and oil?
thanks again Grant your a star :god

The guy who did the rotary conversion used all RX7 running gear, I\'d imagine it\'s still the same, including the axle. He cut the RX7 bracketry off and welded platforms for the RX4 leaf springs. I\'m not sure what year RX7 he used as a donor, but you can work it out from the axle. I know he wanted rear discs, I can\'t remember him swapping the struts, but it does look lower than a standard 929, so maybe on RX7 struts, and it has also the oil cooler under the filter, so best guess would be series 3 RX7. What PCD are the wheels?

thanks Rayit has rear discs, and I think the PCD is 4x114what would be the best way to lower the car further? I need to do something with the exhaust as it sits VERY low (3-4cm clearance) could I get further lowering blocks? Am going to need the biggest U bolt money can buy :Hammer
is there a build thread on this old girl? and who built her?
The front is really low compared to stock rx4.
I am using 1st gen FB rx7 front struts that I have modified to be coilovers. You will probably struggle to lower the front any more without hitting geometry issues.
The rear can be lowered so more with lowering blocks and u bolts. I have got a kit from rally design of which the u bolts are the exact same size, so if you measure the diameter of your axle I will check the diameter of my rx4 axle and show you where to find the lowering kit.
I\'m not sure on a narrower axle?? Maybe custom shortening or possibly try messing around with different styles of wheels and orders to get that deep dish look.
Here\'s the lowering blocks I have got
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Lowering+kit&osCsid=l0jgcgevdh44g19ilsuf52p3g7
Although I am not using the blocks but just the u bolts as I have had my leef springs rolled the othe other way.
Inside diameter of my u bolts
(http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc507/grantmonkhouse/6407f9e3.jpg)
If you measure the outside diameter of your axle to see if they will work.
If the front is on 114 PCD wheels, then it will almost certainly be on RX7 struts, so it\'s pretty well as low as it can be at the front. The camber looks OK, so I guess that the cross-member may have been redrilled?
I\'d be surprised if the RX7 axle is a great deal wider than a 929, as the half shafts are a similar length, I\'ll check at the weekend.
Decambering or re-rolling the eyes on the leaves is the best way, but lowering blocks are OK and upto a couple of inches doesn\'t seem to cause a problem.
This is before any work was done on it: http://classicmazda.co.uk/restoration/929/929.html

Wow. Wonder why he painted the chrome? Looked so nice.
Regards,
Alf
I spy with my little eye an rx3 behind the 929 in that picture??
Rolling the top leef spring is the better option than lowering blocks, which is why I had it done, also helps reduce axle tramps whereas lowering blocks increase the likelihood of tramp.
As for priceon the 2 options it\'s not that expensive either way. So the choice is yours.
However I\'m going for a lot of power over stock ;)
i found him...you have to love the web :)
he just emailed saying
"Its running a 1985 mazda rx7:12a engine. Also ALL the running gear is 1985 rx7 that includes the rear axle wich was modified to go on leaf springs. Custom prop shaft. Tranny tunnel modified for gear box. So yeah its just a rx7 with rx4 shell on really lol. Hope you enjoy it its a fun car " :)
The web\'s great isn\'t it, full build at http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y275/barfupalung/mazda%20project/
Some of the parts went to a guy Mike who used to be on this forum, he had the 929 engine for his Mazda pickup and also some other coupe bits because he had a 929 that he was going to restore. I\'ve not heard about him or the car for years, from memory I think he was from Grimsby and was into datsun\'s.
Yes Grant, it\'s an RX-3 and it\'s still there... :rollin

Phil, im pretty sure your 929 coupe was the one i came to look at :) I believe you had a a dozen or so NSU ro80\'s and 2 cosmos, one being a mazda press car??? i think... and from memory you were driving a lhd renault savana estate when i came and looked at it! Harmeet most of the items i have duplicates are here...click above pick to view... about 25 pics... ignore the last couple of pics, they are from my wiring nightmare today hence why some shots of under the bonnet of your car would be really useful!

RX4 front bumper (pointy) off a coupe
RX4 front indicators
RX4 series 2 grille
RX4 grille emblem
I have these in storage in London.

My memory\'s not too bad then! Me too... i think it did appear for sale again a couple of years back with some rust bubbles appearing here and there!
hi all me again with other question...
had issues with my clutch, have changed that and the slave, but still nothing behind the pedal...
could it be the master?
i disconnected the pipe on the right and pressed the clutch but had nothing come out....
is it a matter of just unbolting and replacing?
is so anyone have a spare or direct me to somone who may?
would it be best to look for a rx7 part?
I got a 929 new old stock one off ebay for £17. Keep your eyes peeled. Coming to think of it, I THINK that I have a clutch master (or slave - need to check) rebuild kit that may be of interest??
Maybe take the clutch master off and take it apart - give it a good clean

but i am still not getting much under my peddle, what else can i do?
i have now changed the master, the salve and the cluch :xconfused:eek
i can see everthing moving as it should in the engine bay when they clutch is pressed but just dont seem to have any pressure... any ideas?
thanks
Are you sure the clutch actuator (what is connected to the slave) isn\'t bent ? Can happen on the FD with a stiffer clutch.
Keep Bleeding the system, could still have some air in there getting in the way.
Shaun
Cheers mate is it a matter of just undoing the \'screw\' on the slave and pumping the clutch? did this for about 15 min... lost lots of fluid but still not much else :(
bleed the clutch the same way as brakes
undo the bleed nipple a little have someone press the clutch down and hold, do the nipple back up release the clutch peddle and repeat

What do you mean by rear valence? as in the garnish around the rear lights? Im after a good one...
yeah the garnish... i have spare, but its exactly that, a spare as i put the good one on my car. It has some dents etc and is missing some clips, but when they are hard to find i took what i could get! I was just lucky finding a better one with an original \'rotary engine\' badge on!
My spare is worth about $75, and a good one can fetch $200, with a mint one going for alot more...
Thankfully RX4 parts have not yet reached rx3 prices yet!!
