Hi guys, would appreciate any suggestions you have as to the root of my problem.
Just finally finished my single turbo conversion, car started easily with a fully charged battery after 14 months laying up. However... After idling enough to warm up the engine just cuts out. Water filler neck and radiator are hot to the touch at this point, but throttlebody is still cool and fast idle cam has not moved yet. The car is then very hard to get to fire until its cooled down again.
I am confident there are no vac leaks, and have checked and adjusted the TPS. Alternator is working, fuel pressure is stable.
Other, possibly related issues:
1. Water temp reading is just --- on PFC, although needle is moving as engine heats on the stock gauge. Sensor check says constant 4.99V on the green water temp sensor at the back of the filler neck, this suggests a dead sensor, but I\'ve just checked voltages at the two terminals in the green connector block which I thought plugged into the water temp sensor and neither is grounded or showing significant voltage compared to ground? What should I be reading on these wires?
2. I\'m surprised its taking so long to get heat into the throttlebody to warm the thermowax, despite water filler neck being hot to the touch, does this suggest a thermostat issue?
Right, so think I\'ve damaged my wiring harness
Metering oil pump position sensor, water temp and fuel temp sensor all throwing errors in PFC.
All of these share a common ECU ground through the BR/B wire in the harness, so thinking I\'ve chopped that at some point when I was removing unecessary connectors without realising the ground was shared.
TPS and IAT also share BR/B for Ground, so HOPEFULLY that means I have just cut it after that and I can patch in a new wire to sort it and cross my fingers that I haven\'t also chopped any of the other wires that these sensors need.
Otherwise... does anyone have a 95 or earlier engine main harness for sale?
Correction, its the emission (EM) harness I mean
Surely if youve gone single when you take off the inlet manifold you can see most of the loom, all them sensors are close to each other so id be tempted to find where they are all in the same part of the loom then run a new wire straight to the pfc, would be easier then changing the loom.

This is a fair point, so after standing in the rain and slicing back the black sticky tape of doom in-situ, have so far discovered that I\'ve chopped through B/W to ISC solenoid, and BR/B to fuel temp, water temp and MOP position sensors. Such a muppet... But seems reasonable to assume this is the cause of my problem! :o
I\'ll temporarily crimp them when the rain stops and see if that solves the issue.
Thats great mate, always nicer when you strip something and actually find a fault
So, just as an update for anyone who finds this thread in a search, the problem WAS caused by me accidentally cutting two CPU earth wires in the emissions harness when i removed solenoid plugs I no longer needed. This meant my metering oil pump position sensor, water temperature sensor and idle stabilty control solenoid were not functioning. After rejoining the offending wires the problem has been fixed and the car idles perfectly. (http://www.fduk.org/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
