Title: 20b N/A FC, discuss..
Post by: L18M on August 09, 2011, 02:30:56 PM
What are your views on a 20b n/a fc?

some people say 20b in fc will be too heavy at the front so will handle poor and also the brakes wont cope with the power?
given target power of 20b im after is about 400bhp (safe reliable), uprating the brakes should be ok? as theres a few big power fc\'s out there that have not crashed.

3 rotors
3 housing
front, rear and 2 centre irons
3 rotor shaft
ignition? stock 20b cosmo coil packs?
20b intake manifold
dont think can use 20b exhaust mani as thats for turbo.
bosch 044 fuel pump
cosmo fuel rails?
cosmo engine loom? custom made?
ecu? dont think pfc will work for 20b
new engine mounts
fc gearbox?
uprated clutch

im sure theres lots i\'ve missed so if anyone can add to this then would be great!

Your going to need a decent ecu ££££\'s
400hp= PP in my eyes
ITB x 3 = £1500

Kind of expensive already?

Go for it. I am willing to help if you need any advice regarding the installation.

ECU wise, go only MOTEC!! Nothing else, M84 is for 1700 pounds and would serve the purpose well. I know I have to change my Motec M84 ECU to M800 OR M880, but for the time being I am happy with that. If by that time you are ready, I will sell you my one with a great discount :)

If its not a 20B engine from a Cosmo it would have to be a short block triple, so that will have to be PPed

ITB how much?! hmm..

dont want out and out power, just power and reliability :)

N/A 20B would be a thing of much win!  400bhp would mean significant porting, but on an FC without the problems with emissions laws you could run Triple IDAs or throttle bodies.  Might make the management system easier.

Is a 20B more reliable than a 13B turbo? I doubt it matey, no turbo but extra rotor to worry about. It all comes down to the difference in price really mate, what will it cost to repair the 13B? Probably be a lot lot less than a 20B transplant.

But if your happy to spend the cash, there can\'t be many 20B PP FC\'s about!

Just get a 13b, the cost of a 20b would probably be about 3 engine rebuilds and thats before you get the 20b to run lol RHDjapan were selling crate 20b engines last year ie Mazda OEM off the shelf engines, £14k each :)

Btw, DO NOT damage a Cosmo to get a 20b!

I know dragon tore a cosmo apart too get a 20b as the rolling shell was for sale when I collected my fc such a shame as it was awesome and had a mega kit and super wide wheels possi ly in excess of 13j rears such a shame too see it sat with no engine and on space savers

N/A should be less problematic than 13b turbo, less to go wrong.  20B is pricey but it\'s just a great motor.

No way would you need to pay that much for ITB\'s, sure you could use some bike carbs with really BIG jets anyway? Even if you had to use 6 cars ( 2 per rotor) it\'ll be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Probably the price of a bespoke component, a lot of this esoteric stuff is way pricey when new and aftermarket - like you I like to rob the great big parts pin that is the 2nd hand market.

Bike ITB\'s may be a bit on the small side - unless you go with the semipp idea.

dont see many 20b cosmo.. a few 13b re cosmo though.
maybe 20b parts should be collected in prep for this 13bt to blow lol

It\'s a good plan Liam, bet you could source them from Japan for a much better price than the uk. Even easier if it\'s a steady thing, get a list of what you need and then your good to start collecting!

Do you really want a PP\'d road car?

It would be amazingly cool, and very fun.

If you want a project then go for it. But if you want something that goes fast and makes nice noises just get a decent engine builder to build you an epic spec engine + turbo setup. It\'ll be cheaper and quicker so why not

What do you mean semipp?

That\'s what I suggested 6 bike carbs, it\'d take up space, but still be cheap. Be like running twin carbs, just run them in pairs. I\'d have thought that with custom jetting they should be able to supply enough air and fuel. And jets are eassssy to replace.

Semi PP - Semi Peripheral port or hybrid engine.  Basically the engine retains the normal side ports and uses these at the lower end of the rev range, then smaller peripheral ports (smaller than if just using PP alone) are opened up to provide additional air induction at higher RPM/Power levels. It would most certainly need a lot of custom engine work and an aftermarket ECU to control it all - but it\'s been done more than once.
