I think quite a few of them went to ruin someone else\'s area.

Their just looting scum in my opinion - should be jailed, have all their assests seized and sold, and if they own a home it goes to the people they\'ve made homeless.  Maybe then they\'d think twice...

What can you say.

Political correctness gone full circle, we now cant touch these "terrorists" which is what they are, due to being told the Police cant use excessive force!

To add:
I hope every innocent caught up in this is ok and manages to re establish themselves and business in the very near future.

We\'re sitting at work awaiting the call to deploy servicemen with batons onto the streets.  Bearing in mind it\'s August and therefore just about every military unit that is not deployed to an operational theatre is currently on leave then you\'d get lots and lots of angry men with batons bringing order to the streets very quickly so they could get back on leave!

I dont understand why the police dont storm each area and bring all the looters and trouble makers down in a shift swoop - the longer it goes on the more people around the country will want to do the same !!!!

Sad but true, so far:

Birmingham
Nottingham
Liverpool

Really you dont understand? Are you sure?

If that happens the press will be full of photos of officers "taking charge" on coloured people or minorities which will then follow months of investigations of Police brutality, which is the whole reason "allegedly" people started the initial riots!

I think its beyond that point now, for the sake of "brutality" there should not be an absence of police - surely.

Also i wonder how the family of the original incident feel watching all this rubbish that has kicked off :(

Keeping an eye on developments as I\'m due to working in Tottenham Court Road tomorrow night. Just two of us left in a furniture store overnight.

Don\'t think it\'ll get that close to the City but TCR has an awful lot of hi-fi shops.

If they keep setting fire to people dwellings then sooner or later one of two things will happen:Either the local residents will turn on the mob and go vigilanteSomeone will end up being trapped and burned aliveNeither of these is acceptable surely ?!The perpetrators should be tracked down, arrested and given the maximum sentences / fines that can be imposed -with no possibility of repreive.  Hard nailed approach with these morons is the only way.

We\'re looking at the options and it\'s not good.  The first unit that would be called on is the Joint Rapid Reaction Force.  Currently that\'s 16 Air Assault Brigade, otherwise known as the Paras.  They\'re very good at what they do, however what they do is whites-of-the-eyes infantry warfare or killing people up close and personal.  They\'re very good at that but turning that loose on the streets of UK cities is something that should worry people significantly.

I believe it was Von Klauswich (sic) who said war is a continuation of diplomacy by other means however in combat there isn\'t diplomacy.  If soldiers were deployed on the Streets of the UK to maintain order then there would be little room for negotiation.  "Army Halt or I fire" would not be something you could argue with because the next thing would be a volley of well aimed rifle fire, or possibly a crack across the skull with a casco baton.

Very intelligent ex police man on sky news just now, i forget his name, a few of his points!

PC used to stand for Police Constable but now stands for Politically Correct
We now have a Police service not Police FORCE

Basically he was saying the Police are not respected any more and even the coppers are unsure of what they are, serving the law or enforcing the law!

I have also seen stupid people who are sympathetic to the "yoofs" and we need to understand why they are doing these things, its simple, they are breaking the law, we have spent too much time asking why and trying to molly codle these idiots, its time they understood the ramifications of their actions!

The Duggans have also demanded answers "NOW" from the Police as to why their boy was shot, why doesnt someone just phone them up and say, he had a firearm which he most likely threatened the Police with, Flippin Eck, is it really that difficult to understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine the Police being questioned in the states for shooting an armed individual??

Well, all I want to say is that; these looters are lucky to be on our soil. If they had been in the underdeveloped countries, Man! I am sure few of them would have been under tones of soil and few of them would have been without arms and legs.

What upsets me is that, these SO CALLED RIOTS are not being stopped but been encouraged. Its not the looters who are taking advantages, its the business owners as well who are taking advantages, I have just come to know that, some people are purposefully burning their businesses and allowing friends and families to steel stuff so that they can claim it off from the Insurance..

Now, people like us are already suffering from the high insurance cost and big tax brackets, at the end, its us who are going to pay for it, not those who have already made their money out of it....

I wish the following happens

We\'re looking at the options and it\'s not good. The first unit that would be called on is the Joint Rapid Reaction Force. Currently that\'s 16 Air Assault Brigade, otherwise known as the Paras. They\'re very good at what they do, however what they do is whites-of-the-eyes infantry warfare or killing people up close and personal. That Sir is a very contentious comment and although i am sure this has happened and if you are aware of said activities you will immediately notify the authorities!

Obviously in the network we exist in (this forum and others, facebook etc) i have not seen one post, thread, news feed to support the rioters or believe any of the spam thrown at us for their reasons behind it, i.e duggans death, lack of jobs, cuts to community projects, uni costs etc etc and whatever other bo**cks they want to try and make us believe.

My point is this, WE, me, you, our families and friends are the MAJORITY and WE are the ones who fund this country through our taxes, not the scum who you see out on the streets the last few nights whose voices are far to loud and listened too! It seems you only have to have one of these minorities complain about something or another these days and the do gooders are all over them, calling for equal rights, blah blah blah. Its up to us as the MAJORITY to have OUR voices heard now, as the backbone of this country. Let these minorities know that if they behave like civilized human beings they will be treated as such and looked after. If however they decide to behave like animals with no regard to the law and their fellow citizens they will be treated as such. Literally, the rug will be pulled out from under their feet!

We USED to be \'Great\' Britain.... Not anymore, i\'m embarrased. I\'m living in Cyprus now and frankly i feel embarrased to be English at the moment, fortunately no one has asked me what i think about it. This is not the way to behave and the only person to blame is ourselves and the system. We cannot say certain words, parents cannot hit children, police cannot punish a criminal on the spot, teachers cannot punish students infront a class, now we will pay the consequenses for our nanny state.

Its a grey emotional day for Britain to wake up to this hangover of society and for one, I am very very dissapointed with whats happened. Reform is needed, but i am 100% sure nothing will change.

Quote from: XRMike;781142If the police cant/wont deal with it put someone on the streets who can! Its been going on too long now, it should have been delt with quicker! Put the Army on the streets as they are trained up for it!

The army have limited training in control of riots or civil disturbance compared to the police.  Police leadership have not fully authorised full riot responses in many cities, they have in London and there were no problems last night.

Turning the army loose on the streets with a mandate to enforce the peace will result in deaths.  Whilst that may be a popular idea I very much doubt it will do anything but make things worse.  The catalyst for this event was the shooting of a man brandishing a weapon at armed police who shot him when he didn\'t respond to their requests to put the gun down.  The Army are an exceptional bunch of people but they are trained to eliminate their adversaries with lethal force if they feel it is necessary.  I think the kind of people rioting on the streets at the moment will struggle to grasp the fact that the soldier with the gun yelling "Stop or I fire" actually means it and that if he fires they\'ll be dead.  If they\'re deployed with batons rather than rifles then it just means that they\'ll end beating people to death or putting people in hospital with serious muscular-skeleto injuries who then become burdens on the state.

In the short term the Police need to earn their pay on this, deploy the assets required to enforce order on the streets and then we need to look to society, be that parents, schools or the wider community to impose the idea of right and wrong on these youths that is required to be part of modern society.

This is going to be the next new trend, the scum bags have figured out if they go shoplifting or on the rob in ones or twos they stand a bigger chance of getting caught, if they turn out in Numbers the police will just stand and watch as they don\'t want to confront. But that said how long do you think its going to be before some one breaks into a shop and finds a shop keeper pointing a 12 gauge at them or some nice Boobie traps?

They should bring in laws like the US where if some one breaks into your property you have the right to defend it as long as its not with excessive force, i don\'t think we\'re too far off now with the shop keeper getting off who stabbed that thief.

Quote from: Grizzly;781566They should bring in laws like the US where if some one breaks into your property you have the right to defend it as long as its not with excessive force

That IS the law over here. If you feel threatened and that your life is in danger you are well within your legal rights to defend yourself with REASONABLE force, that is the law.

In america, if somebody breaks into your home, and you feel threatened, you are within your rights to defend your life and property with due FORCE.

That\'s the difference. So yeah, if somebody breaks into your place and threatens you with a knife in the UK, and you beat them down with a baseball bat, it\'s all legal, since they have a more dangerous weapon and you are using reasonable force, long as you don\'t kill em or make em a vegetable, much as they would deserve it.

So it all hinges on what \'reasonable force\' is.

I think atomic weaponry is probably out due to the colateral damage (plus to be fair it\'s difficult to come by even on ebay), but what about tasers, stun guns, CS spray - none of these are lethal and you can take johnny looter straight off to the old bill after tie wrapping him suitably to something large and inflexible like a fence post.

:spank:spank

Stun gun = illegal weapon for civilians to use and / or carry

Police grade (or anything close) pepper spray = illegal weapon for civilians to carry / use

Tazer = illegal weapon for civilians to carry / use

Most of the things from america that people \'think\' they can use to defend themselves are actually illegal weapons. This includes tazers, pepper spray, stun guns, CS spray, and pretty much anything you can use to damage another human being - welcome to politically correct england.

If you defended yourself with mace or stun guns / tazers, the person you harmed is well within their legal rights to take you to court for assault with an illegal weapon REGARDLESS of why you hit them with it.

Sucks nuts, but it\'s the sad, pathetic truth of UK defence law, hence why security personnel / officers like myself aren\'t allowed to carry F/A besides your own strength and communications skills. Carry much more than that, and you\'re not only seen as an intimidating threat to others, you\'re also carrying illegal weaponry.

Also, with tie-wrapping somebody up and restraining them until authorities arrive, something that security guards are known for doing on the odd occasion, you have to be prepared for the lashback of court claims for false imprisonment, holding a person against their will, etc etc.

Again, it sucks, but that\'s UK law for you. Utterly :Grrr\'ed in favour of the criminals.

Go out and buy a nail gun. Its legal to have a nail gun surely, probably not legal to fire it at someone though. But you could just say you were about to nail gun a picture to the wall and someone broke in, startled you and \'bam, bam, bam\' next thing you knew he had 3 nails in 1 knee cap?

Ah but that\'s classed as a home made weapon, I could say the same thing about making up a squirt bottle with a solution of nitromorse, power steering fluid, or anything nasty I can pick up at B&Q which is then classed as aggravated assault with a (possibly deadly) weapon, which could lead to burns, blindness, etc etc.

Like has been said practically everywhere, political correctness gone full circle. Bless this country eh? I think it needs it. New and revised laws for "less harm towards each other" have created a huge turd-storm of political correctness.

If somebody breaks into your house and then trips over and lands on a knife, chances are these days they can probably sue you for damages.

The problem with carrying weapons is that everyone will do it and someone will do something stupid and then people will die.  Stringent control on weaponry is a good thing!  However if you want to effectively defend yourself against an aggressor armed with anything other than a firearm then unarmed combat/self defence classes are well worth it, they\'re perfectly legal and unless the person trying to attack you is equally well trained, in the case of these rioters then I doubt they will be, you should be able to disarm and disable an opponent.  My police mates and guys in the legal profession say that were you to be unarmed and attacked by an armed assailant then if you disarmed them and in doing so broke their arm that would be considered proportionate.  If you subsequently beat them to a bloody pulp then that would be unnecessary.

The weird bean bag things were found to be too harsh, they killed more people than they would like.

Quote from: Lacey;781594Stun gun = illegal weapon for civilians to use and / or carry

Police grade (or anything close) pepper spray = illegal weapon for civilians to carry / use

these two are classed as firearms in the UK, so if you use them in any circumstance expect a jail sentence.

Quote from: Will66;781623However if you want to effectively defend yourself against an aggressor armed with anything other than a firearm then unarmed combat/self defence classes are well worth it

i\'ve got about four years of jujitsu behind me and whilst i\'ve learnt how to break/dislocate people\'s arms, i\'ve also learnt that against groups of people you\'ll stand no chance, no matter how much training you have.

Awesome, Wandsworth council have given a woman an eviction notice from her council home because her son was involved in the riots!

They deserve a medal, i hope more will follow! Seems some in this country might have a backbone!
