Title: Oil pressure question
Post by: Dualist on August 06, 2011, 10:47:43 PM
Hiya all :)

Can oil pressure be too much and if it is, is it a problem.?

Got an old 13b mounted as a stand alone, god knows how long it was stood in a shed before I got it and I\'ve have it for over a year doing nowt.
But the Haynes manual states that it has oil pressure set at 70(ish) psi @ 3000rpm.

When I crank over I can hit 30 psi no problem, but on tick over I can hit 80 psi and with slightly accerated revs I hit a 100 is this normal or is due to the fact that the engine has been stood for so long that the pressure relief valve is stuck.?

The motor has been ported, I know sod all history about it, pressure tested it with a piston compresson tester cold and got good bouncing on all chambers and total pressure was 105psi on both front and rear sections.

Here\'s a short vid....

My FD\'s 13B does 7 bar (100 psi) (gauge only reads up to 7 bar) oil pressure when driving with a cold engine.
When it\'s warmed up (80* C) it\'s around 5 bar (70 psi) when driving, dropping to 1.5 bar (20 psi) on idle.

Cool thanks for the replies guys.

Will sort my water cooling out first then I can run it until it\'s warm and check again then, thanks :)
