Title: X reg Gen 1 Series 2 ? - Scrap / Bits
Post by: adarmo on July 31, 2011, 10:24:23 PM
Hi guys my Dad took an X reg  (1982 ?) RX7 in PX a couple of years ago.

It was at "project status" then and now he\'s about to scrap it.

Is there a market for parts / donor cars ?

There is considerable rust at the rear and on the roof and some damage  but the bonnet / headlights look good and the front wings look ok.

Interior is now green as the drivers window was smashed yrs ago.

The engine was supposedly good but it hasn\'t run for at least 2 yrs

Is it worth advertising or not as I think I\'ve seen MOT\'d cars at £400ish so does anyone still care ?

Note he\'s ancient and I\'m too busy so if anyone wanted bits they\'d have to remove them.

So worth posting up an ad on here / Ebay or just call the scrap man ?

Thanks

your best bet is to put it on ebay as 0.99p start with no reserve and stipulate \'buyer collects\' and it\'ll find it\'s own level... not much demand for parts but it might make a few quid.... depends how bad it is.

Thats the point of this post... he can get probably £100 from the scrapman but it seems a shame if someone needs parts.

depends whats wrong with it and what it needs, throw some pictures up via photobucket, I could be interested in taking the whole thing off your hands.

if you want it used for parts, ebay is the place to put it. You\'ll reach a much wider audience on there than you will on here. On the other hand, if you want it to only go to someone on this forum, there will be fewer interested parties but someone might need the bits.... depending on their condition.
Most of it will probably end up with the scrapman in the end....they usually do. I stripped a \'Y\' reg a few months back and couldn\'t give most of the bits away.... the shell, doors, bonnet, axles, etc, etc all went in the skip.
Good luck with it.

That\'s a shame I always hate throwing good bits away. Sounds like the scrapman gets it then

somebody on here might want some bits and by listing it on ebay you\'ll probably get some takers..... but the sad truth is that there just isn\'t the demand for s2 RX7 parts in this country.

Do us a favour please.
Can you let me have the registration and colour?

I keep a register of the 250 or so remaining 1st gens....Series 1,2 and 3. (\'X\' is 1981/82, Series 2). I would like to show it scrapped if it\'s down on my list.

If you don\'t want to post on the net, you can email me on dgnock at btopenworld dot com

Also, from time to time I publish a breaker\'s list of 1st Gens breaking - it\'s no cost to you and I\'ll keep it on there for a year. But you\'ve got it hanging around not cleared at one go. If you want me to do that give us a contact number please. By the way it\'s not a condition that you have to give me the Reg.

No - he is.

As I said it\'s beyond saving.

I\'ll post an quick ad but as I said people would have to remove parts themselves so it\'s unlikely to be worthwhile to anyone.

Very good point, you seen the FC recently that was a scrap job but instead has been saved by having about 80% or a brand new floor in welding installed into it?

Here it is in all its glory - beyond saving IMO but there are a few good bits though I can\'t vouch for the running gear you are welcome to start / compression test it if you want it\'s located at B93 just outside Solihull. £100 for the lot or the scrap man gets it. Or let me know if you\'d want any bits.

Thanks for keeping going with this Adarmo.

It\'s good to see someone who wants to find a home for usable bits.

Car looks a bit far gone but it all depends on the underside, particularly in the rear arches/rear sills.

Keep an eye on the \'How Many 1st Gens left\' Sticky post in the 1st Gen Forum.

Most cars advertised appear in there within hours. From Ebay, Pistonheads, and a lot more sites.

Good hunting Ross.

Thanks for that Dave, I\'ll keep my eye out.

Just a pity that this one falls right in budget and doesn\'t look too bad really.

I\'m guessing you must be fairly close to me (Lincolnshire) so if you hear of anything nearby cheaply enough Dave could you let me know please.

Cheers

Yes will do Ross.

Another place to try, although it\'s a heck of a haul from here is RX Motors in Dorset.

Tim White has a lot of positive feedback on here and he has a yardful of 1st Gens, all price range.
