Ive just been informed that the Rx7 is prone to catching fire.....
Is there any truth in this?
Mine does atleast twice a week. But I\'m used to it now.
Keith
Ive had it happen a couple of times....happened once on a date....unlucky for the girl I was with the passenger door handle broke off. Luckily for me Im into necrophilia.
This thread is epic XD
lmao!! jit that was funny!
ok now im scared you guys arnt jokin lol
well looks like im investing in a fire extinguisher lol
yes, the rotary likes to light its rear orifice on fire if that counts?
less painful than trying to light your own farts, so i been told :Giggle
Well you\'ve heard the phrase "light it\'s ass on fire", Rex\'s do actually do that. See mine for example. And mines not even turbo\'d ;) Melty goodness!!

Melty goodness :D
My old S14 used to catch fire regularly too - having removed the DV and having a 3" straight through exhaust pipe HYOOGE flames.
Remember this bmw driver cut me up one night, waited until there was dual carriageway and overtook him slowly, goes back to single, slowed to 30mph where he couldnt overtake when he was as close as he was going to get I floored it :burnout and watching him cack himself :D he did an emergency stop in the road :3gears-rh

I guess it depends if you douse it in petrol and throw a lit match at it?
:spank

It is true I\'m afraid. We\'re all dead. I died twice actually. True story.

"True story" quote from Barney Stinsen? :rollin
Seriously, the ones that i heard that have caught on fire were due to the fuel lines not being tighten up enough / break / possible oil leak from turbo oil feed.
But these can be same for any car...
I\'ve heard of at least 4 race cars catching fire, there\'s a FamSpeed FD on one of the HotVersion DVD\'s that I\'ve got that cooks off after showing 2 tunded R35 who\'s boss on Fuji speedway. Fastest lap by about .5 seconds IIRC.
Then on the cool down lap it does excatly the opposite.:flamed
something like this you mean Lacey...

:D
Mine catches fire all the time, luckly enough this happens to push the rotor around and makes the car move. HTH!

Lmao thats just epic.......
So i take it that its mainly the exhaust that lights up? lol
If you actually mean electricals and whatnot, if it really was an issue, there would have been a free nationwide issue and the problem rectified, Mazda won\'t have a car that kills people by catching fire on the market, bit bad for business :p
Look! FIRE!!! :D

The last time mine caught fire, last Friday going to see jit, on the m4 and my seat caught fire. Fire brigade reckon it was friction that caused it, Lucky though as Rx Dave has some spares for me n I only got friction burns on my knuckles.
Could always resort to paying a mate on standby like this guy does :D

cooooooooool! :3gears-rh :flamed
Rising Sun Car Show 2009, about half 1 in the morning, the Celica Club decided to start up their fail-wheel-drive motors and give it some beans to liven things up. Cue the guys from my local club thinking, "right, they\'re not getting off that easy". So anyhoo, a very drunken Graeme turns on Rexy, lets her warm up for a few minutes then places what he thinks is a gentle foot on the loud pedal *read as bounces of the 8100 limiter* lets off and she gives out a three foot flame. Now I know it was three feet because my mate James was standing three feet behind her when this happened, and he ended up rolling about on the grass to put his trousers out... oopsie... :P
Hahahahaha, win XD
I\'ve head of FD\'s\' setting alight when left on grass or running on grass.
Additionally i remember reading something about them catching alight which required a recall or something. I read that a good 4 years ago.
I heard that about FD\'s too, but never saw any hard evidence to back it up like a news report or officially stated manufacturers recall report....
you guys should read more; These are know facts:
Taken from: http://www.turborx7.com/rx7specs.htm (http://www.turborx7.com/rx7specs.htm) under the heading :I want to buy a 3rd Gen RX-7. What should I know?
Recalls
There have been three recall notices put out on the 3rd Generation RX-7s,
two pertaining to engine fires, and one concerning brake booster failure.
You will want to make sure that the car in question has had these recalls
done. If they have not been performed, you will want to take the car to a
Mazda dealership where they will be performed free of charge. If you don\'t
know whether the recalls have been applied to a car, you can call the Mazda
Customer Service line at (800) 222-5500 with the vehicle\'s VIN, and they
can tell you.

There is more than enough information out there for you guy to take this seriously. I have seen and heard of a few cars burnt to the ground because of these issues.
Not sure if the recalls are for all global regions though.. not so funny when you read about it now is it? :Thumbs-up
True, it\'s a serious matter. I still find the content of this thread quite funny.
While I agree with you that the content is funny Lacey, the OP doesn\'t know the true facts of his question.
It wouldn\'t surprise me that the OP thinks the whole fire thing was just rubbish, after reading all the jokes in this thread. What makes it worst is that some of the members in here that he is relying on for information are making jokes and didn\'t know any better themselves. Just my observation.

steady on mate, i think peeps (me included) are just making light of a potentially nasty situation to ensure we don\'t scare the OP witless. I was aware of the recall issues but seeing as I haven\'t heard of anyones\' on here (or FDUK for that matter) car spontaneously catching fire in the 5 years i\'ve been on the scene I didn\'t think it was too big a deal to get worked up about.
And anyway, if you think what cars are / how they are made - you could argue that ANY is a potential fireball waiting to happen.
graeme
Cue cars with home-wired electrical\'s, things not earthed properly, fat soundsystems not put in properly, magnesium wheels (seriously, who\'s bright idea was that? Everbodies done science enough to know that\'s just stupid)
Im going to be fitting a fire extinguisher system into my FC, really don\'t want anything failing and causing a fire with that amount of fuel system in the engine bay.

i wish mine did that :2Rolleyes
I\'ve never seen or heard of any UK or Jap FD catching fire in that way.
FIRE!!! :)
I have heard that heavy ported rotarys can backfire easy...
When my brothers FB was starting to lose apex seals, it shooted huge blue fire out of exhaust. After rebuild, just normal firebolts... :)
Its ok no one has put me off or scared me. I just now know i have to be careful lol.
Ive now ordered a fire extinguisher to go in my rex lol.
This should be fun.......besides if you cant laugh youd cry :p
