Hi guys
First post and not the kind I was hoping for. I have a nice red Vert and unfortunatly it\'s going to be out of use for the next 12 - 24 months.
It will be a work in progress, but I am wondering if there is anything I need to do to keep the engine in shape. Its currently serving me very well, hot and cold starting etc and I dont want it to implode the first time I drive it.
Any helpfull information?
Antoni
Will you be able to run the car at all whilst it is stored? If so then regular running will help even if its only for 20 mins or so. If not I\'ve heard of people putting a little squirt of 2 stroke oil into the plug holes if they know the engine will be stood idle for a long time.
Also make sure you check everything over when you do return to the car for the first time and do a full fluid change as soon as you can.

I read somewhere that the best way to preserve a rotary in long term storage is to brim the engine with oil. Right up to the top of the filler, obviously disconnect the battery and do not turn the engine over like this otherwise it\'ll be badly damaged but when you want to start it, drain all the oil out and do a full fluid change. I think this is what was done to Clive\'s RX4 prior to him getting it and after a fluid change and some new plugs the motor fired up on the key after several years without use!
Some good advice from will there mate :)
Welcome to the club btw :D

so disconnect electrical supply, ie the battery and fill up to the oil cap with engine oil. then drain the oil and put into the max level and then start the engine? when you said fluid changes what else needs replaced?
what in effect is happening when you fill right up to the oil cap?
mine had been sitting for 6 years before i bought it the way it was when it was turned off i just simply took each of the plugs out and squirted in 20ml of brake fluid before i attempted to turn it over after its sleepy slumber
i went to see an fb and we couldn\'t get it to start as it had been siting a couple of months. someone else bought her, if i\'d known the brake fluid fix, i\'d have tried it.
but i didn\'t get the chance to work on it with the other viewer. handy to know these
wee hints.
Clive\'s RX4 thread gives the details.

But basically when you leave the car fill it up to the neck with oil, I guess really cheap stuff will be fine since you\'re never going to run it, and leave it. Apparently Clive drained his for two days, put fresh oil in and a new filter and it fired up. Only issue with the motor was a sticking thermostat.
I reckon the theory is that the oil in the motor prevents any corrosion occurring, it will also keep oilways clear and the bearings will always be lubricated so nothing internal to the engine will fail.
