I\'ve taken the plunge and bought my first RX7 w-hoooo! :3gears-rh
Unfortunately it needs a bit of TLC as its been sat outside for 2 1/2 years and not been turned over.
With my limited knowledge I\'ve poked and prodded as much as I can get to with out a ramp and it looks in good condition considering. The only obvious signs of rust are the brake discs, wheel nuts and a piece of thin steel which stretches across the front of the car then up and round the back of the lights, looks to bolted on??
The handbrake came off ok and with a bit of heave-ho moved freed the discs.
I was planning on giving the car a good pampering myself but work commitments mean is off to WGT. Fingers crossed it fires up without popping.
I\'ll add some pics (when I figure how to on here??) as no doubt someone will recognise it.
Mean while any handy hints and tips to help have a long trouble free life would be appreciated.
does it run? :)
Hi,
It did till it was parked up.
I\'ve not tried to start it and didn\'t want to without replenishing all fluids which would effectively be giving it a major service, which is why I\'ve sent it off to WGT.
Not hearing the sound of it firing up for the first time feels like I\'m missing out on one of my children being born lol.
Will this be a daily drive or a weekend toy?
Great stuff, welcome to the club :)
welcome :)
get some pics up mate
Thank you all,
It\'s going to be a daily driver. Is that mad? It\'s raised a few eyebrows when mentioned.
Think I might need new discs?
you got deep pockets for fuel i hope :D
My WRX will do 380 miles to £82, if I can do the same miles for £110ish I\'d be happy.
Welcome to the club. You might get that amount of milage out of the car. Depends how tuned it is and how heavy your right foot is. Once you\'ve put your foot down hard you find it hard not to keep doing it :D
Rare Mazdaspeed front bumper you have there. Make sure the lens and secure cos if you lose one of them you\'ll never find another
Adam
I recognice it :)
This was my first ever RX7, must have sold it 5+ years ago now!
A pic in its former glory!
welcome to the club , nice to see more people around the area
If you need any help with the car - there are a few of us around here who are usually happy to weild a spanner in anger ;)
I used a FD as my daily for about 4 yrs, loved every minute of it. Just make sure you service every 3-4 months (oil, plugs etc) and you should be fine

erm, probably not....
mine (mild mods 315bhp, stock twins) will happily munch a full tank (about £95) in 240miles, and that\'s motorway miles, not traffic lol

Welcome aboard ! So you bought it then :D
I fixed the radiator when it was running and did feel ok when I drove it briefly to check the water temps with the new rad.
Shaun
so whose was it shaun ?
Martin she was stunning and she still is, just needs a bit of TLC. If you have any other pics or info please fire them over.
Hi Grinder, cool thanks for the offer if I follow Bobbits advice (which I will cheers Bobbit) I\'ll will be getting my hands dirty so would be good to get some first hand advice as the workshop manuals can sometimes take you the long round on a job.
Trotter I think Martin knows more about the car than me! I think its stock mechanically, Apexi Sport ECU (missing the commander unit, anyone have a spare for sale?) running 280bhp. The previous owner has done nothing mod wise other than HIDs since Martin owned it.
Hi Shaun, yep she\'s all mine. I\'ll bob round when it\'s all up and running.
BTW dont let anything go unchecked. Any warning lights, funny noises, pull over and check it out. It can be a pain in the bum but it\'s well worth the hassle rather than an expensive bill. I noticed my wate rlight flickered once, pulled over and the pipe to the AST (air seperator tank- helps get bubble out of the coolant) was split, it was a good job i checked as low coolant = heat. Rotory engine + heat = empty bank account
Feel free to drop me an email (see my signature) Im sure I have a load of pictures on my other computer I can send you. The engine was rebuilt when I first got the car (in 2004 from memory) I covered about 20,000miles in it before selling it to a guy up in Blackpool?
It was still with the blackpool chappy ! Met the guy picking it up for pips when Chris damaged his gearbox at oulton park (small world).
Just a not I have got some quite full of meat front disks if you want them. Won\'t be asking much for them, probably £40 for the pair. They are uprated grooved ones !
Shaun
Thanks for the offer Shaun but it should have arrived in Middlewich about 2hrs ago where parts have been readied for Dr. Frankenstein to bring my monster back to life!
queue:Gene Wilder
No problem, good to see it getting back on the road !
Shaun
==WGT Update==
It\'s Alive!
A pop of blue smoke and ticking over fine, awesome!
Only one problem I wasnt aware of and thats the Apexi ECU which is dead :(
Fingers crossed for the MOT.
Balls, it was ok the last time I saw it. Although its over 2yrs being sat and anything can happen.
Going to be very cool !
Shaun
Welcome, and so glad to hear the engine has fired up OK :)

lol i got 240km to a full tank lol thats 150 miles lol
its cheaper to run a 4 seater plane ( based on cost per mile lol)
It\'s arrived!
Had a 20 minute drive and it\'s doing some odd things.
Revs up to 3k on startup and stinks of fuel??
Drives without missing a beat although the \'Heat\' warning light lights up when changing gear??
After gentle warming the car at idle, well dosent it sits at 1500 and revs to 2000 and drops to 1500 then revs to 2000, this happens continuesly, any ideas?
The rest is cosmetic, trim loose, bumper flimsy/loose and in need wiper blades and a ruddy good detailing.
Apart from that it just sitting their makes me smile and when I wander out to it, its just stunning
Is it still on the base map on the PFC ? Does it need to go back to get tuned once its had a few miles on it ?
Could be the PFC still finding the idle.
I\'m away this weekend at Rotorstock but I\'ll try and pop round and admire the new car in the area !
Shaun
Gutted I can\'t be with you all, next year I\'ll be there in fact if there are other meets in the mean time I\'ll try and get involved.
The PFC is the original that came with the car, pip told me to hang fire with buying a commander because the PFC wasn\'t responding, turns out it was the diag/commander port thats not working. There is an electronics whizz round the corner from us that fixes key fobs etc, might be worth getting him to take a look.
don\'t know if should take it to swindon next week if it\'s unsettled?
well after pooteling round last weekend I thought I\'d take for her for a proper run this morning.
So up at 6am while the roads are quite.
ECU has calmed down, it\'s now running at 2k revs before it gets up to temp then bobs between 1k and 1.25k and settles at 1k after about 30 seconds this happens after driving and then coming to a standstill.
My word it goes like stink! Very impressed can\'t believe how much quicker it is than my WRX. I also can\'t believe how tame and easy it is to drive it is when taking it easy.
loving this car :-)
