Pretty happy with her, noticed she has a MazdaSpeed rear strutt brace and Avon zz-1\'s all round. Only niggly points I can see are rear wiper doesn\'t work, exhaust has the occasional rattle and she needs a new head unit. Desperately needs a clean though, will add more pics when I have some :D
Bout time!!! No longer imaginary eh? :p
good news :) i know how u felt with all the wait.. lol

Awesome news!
Looks great and in the best colour! :)
:cheers Party over in Cyprus then - your weather looks way better than ours too ;)
Glad you finally got reunited with the car :) :cheers
I dare say the weather is better, but it\'s too freaking hot! So happy I\'ve finally got her, she had a flat battery but I\'m hoping after a good drive she\'ll be okay now!
.......cut the springs and weld the diff :D
I\'ll buy proper springs but no welded diff, maybe an lsd later on in life!!
i was joking mate, just make sure you enjoy it!
I know and don\'t worry I will mate, it\'s a nice example. A lot minter than I expected it to be. Well chuffed, happy with the 219 ponies as well!!
Hey hey now you can start enjoying her. Keep us all posted with updates.
Ade
Will do... Pasted a tegra dc2 type R this evening... Great fun :D
Hahaha nicely done :p
Good man, showing up the Honda boys with a show of torque ;)
What\'s the spec then, to be putting out 219 horses? Air filter? Exhaust? (Looks standard from those teensy pics!)

Fuel ratio\'s look nice and safe too, bearing in mind your hotter than normal* ambient air temps :)
* = Normal for cwappy UK weather :yes
That dyno printout is from the UK, Si had it done before he sold it me. Mods as far as i can see is just an exhaust and i\'m assuming downpipe Si mentioned something about a downpipe, although i don\'t think its anything special. I\'ve not opened the airbox to see whats inside, but i do have a HKS replacment element at home either way but not expecting it to add another 10 BHP LoL. It seems as though i\'ve got pretty lucky, rust is minimal from what i can and everything bar the rear wiper and ancient tape player works! Even the sunroof works, all the guages are fine, the immobilizer works just right, the windows, wipers, central locking all good and after doing about 100 miles in it yesterday the battery is fine and keeps charge as well.
Pulls really well, i mean the \'tegra typr R is a mates and its got manifolds, filters and suspension upgrades on and my RX7 totally leaves it behind... Even when the VTEC kicks in yo\'. We were playing around on the motorway at gone 12 last night when it was totally empty and i was letting him go infront about 4-5 car lengths and i was still catching and passing him! Well impressed the turbo kicks in right when it should and doesn\'t let off untill i do.
I\'ll admit though, the gear stick is a bit floppy and third gear causes me some trouble but its probably because i\'ve not driven and FC for like 3 years. There are no problems with the box as it goes in every gear (when i find it) just the driver i think in this case. Interior is REALLY good, obviously its the lovely black and grey TII colours but its been really looked after, no rips in the seats etc or fag burns. Just need to replace the non working tape player with a CD playet (which i already have) hopefully that will be straight forward.
So yeah, i\'m one happy chappy and i\'m even impressed that i didn\'t use THAT much fuel last night, i put €50 in yesterday and after 100 miles of mostly hard driving its not even gone below a quarter from just over half.
Will give her a good clean tonight and get some more pics up.
Good times :D
Gearstick floppyness is probably just the collar piece in the selector cup - that\'s what it was on Lacey\'s EGI - it\'s a cheap enough part if you can find it ;)
Great stuff, is that something you don\'t have spare? :2eek
This is my box of goodies :D
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc23/BenNova/8bc83f14.jpg)
I see something shiiiiiiny :D
There is potentially 3 shiney things there :D
Tried to get under her last night, but i forgot how low the FC was to the floor. Not like getting under even my lowered 106 GTI, haha. Think i need a jack, then maybe i can find out what exhaust and downpipe i have with some help from you lovely people. Had the car cleaned inside last night, looks really fresh now cleaned up very very well!
Got this in the boot as well.... Pretty cool i think, now i need one for under the bonnet! (wish it was purple though and not gold >.<)

you can get a quick shift for the FC quite cheaply and it will replace all the sloppiness and give you a shorter throw. IIRC i paid £30 for mine.
Oooohhh. Where would i go to find such a device for such a price? :D
bloody hell!
finally!!!
enjoy her, i didn\'t have her long but its a nice motor :)
I will don\'t worry, finally found someone who would insure me today! Did you ever have a head unit working in it?
I\'ve got head units, infact I have more than one, all three work perfectly fine in the FC :D
I have a head unit to put in it, but the one that was in it was unplugged and some of the connections from the car were black taped up. Just being cautious, don\'t want it to go up in flames! :Giggle
You should see mine, it looks like there was a rat living in the dash that survived on cables :p
One day i\'m going to get a japanese car and fill it with 1 kilometer of wiring and send it back to Japan, so they know how we feel!
Hahahaha XD
Just give her a clean, will polish later when it\'s not so frickin hot!! Next door the land lords got his old school Datsun 120Y, it\'s looks like we\'ve got a retro J-tin thing going on! Pretty cool though, can\'t beat retro jap cars can you. I\'ll do some more pic whoring later at a nice location after she\'s been treated to a polish.
Apologies in advance for the cloudless blue sky ;)
Took some pics earlier hopefully this will be it now until I actually do something to the car. Fitted my rad cap, oil cap and new airfilter today. Obviously gave it a polish as well. Down side is I\'ve managed to loose a FTP lens on the drivers side, if anyone has a spare one in good condition please let me know. Paintwork has come up okay on most parts, can even get a reflection on the bonnet!
As always comments appreciated.

Looks identical to mine when I bought it :D missing the splitter as well lol check under the bumper and you will probably find whats left of it screwed to the bumper :D
nah the headunit never worked Ben, mind you i never tried to get it to work...
hows the clutch feeling? reckon you\'ll get many more miles out before you get it changed?

I couldn\'t see any splitter remains lol, managed to loose a FTP lens though, know anyone who\'s got a spare in good nick?

Took it all out yesterday (headunit) and all the wires are cut, so I\'ve got no idea what i\'m doing with wires! Been quoted £40 to sort and fit a new one including adapters etc, seems okay price for Cyprus! As far as clutch goes that seems okay too as long as I make sure it\'s fully pressed in when changing gear, not had it slip yet at redline touch wood. I\'ll be honest though I\'ve not hit redline in 4th or 5th yet, understandably considering the speed I\'d have to be doing...
I went on motor way other day and was @ 120mph in 4th still 1.5k odd to go before the buzzer without even realising it, she gains speed quickly for such a big car I was just stretching her legs and glanced at the speedo like \'sheet, better slow down!\' All my previous cars have been really pushing it @ that kind of speed!
Buzzer is at like 7k rpm, knightsports chip has reduced my redline to 9k lol buzzer is a good shift light though as thats where the OEM turbo runs out of puff, car isn\'t very heavy though, also, does your ABS work?

Car is heavy when compared to my last 2 106 GTI\'s lol. I think abs works, braking seems fine and I don\'t think I actually have a limiter so just change at buzzer to be sure.

Meh, the RX7 is 200kg heavier, but with about twice the power as stock from a smaller engine :D
More than 200k isn\'t it? But either way it\'s much more fun and 100x cooler :cool
popups = win
How did you lose an FTP lens already?! lol
Don\'t know, was on the car yesterday when I went out photo taking. Got home and it was gone :(
Well done :p I have a spare pair but the condition is awful, they need rubbing down and re-lacquering quite badly. That, and they only have one intact screw hole on each of them.
Gutted, the 2 on mine were immaculate :(
I\'m considering taking the second one out until I can get a new one, least it will look simetrical then!!

Sometimes they are removed for better air flow lol
Had a quick go earlier but the o/s one is somewhat seized up!
Yeah if your gonna replace the other one leave this one alone. The plastic gets brittle around the stud that the nut goes on. End result is the stud spins and breaks the plastic on the lens. I know this cause I\'ve had 2 set that were all duff and had to be fixed.
Ade
Fair enough - Don\'t suppose you\'ve got a spare then have you?
Took a pic of her near the damn last night, kinda cool back drop i thought on this first one.

Righty then...
As you all know I lost an FTP lens which was very dissapointing! So being the impatient son of a b!tch I am, I just couldn\'t wait for a perfect replacement lens to firstly appear out of no where then make it to Cyprus! So after a conversation with James I decided to remove the other one for a symmetrical look, now I think it looks better all together. Mitch, James and the Lacey have all seen it on Facebook but for any who haven\'t i thought I\'d stick it on here (and sub-consciously it\'s a reason for more pic whoring!) Think I\'m going to get some black mesh to go in the gaps left just so it\'s looks a tad more tidy :)

Seem to look ok on dark cars

James White one looked cool though?
I think the cars look better minus them anyway tbh, so good work.
Cheers man :)
Got my tow strap today, any one know how it will go onto the towing eye? Is it removable or am i going to have to chop it and weld it?
Dont you have to remove the OEM towing eye and then use the bolts to bolt on the strap?
Oh okay, can I do it without removing the front bumper. Don\'t suppose there are any of your helpful pics available on this little task? ;)
A socket, ratchet and some plusgas?
Am I missing something here? Is this hose supposed to replace that one? It\'s almost double the size!!
Quick response is greatly appreciated!!
Thats the top rad hose lol why did you need to take that off lol I thought you were fitting an towing eye lol
No, no, no, no! Lol!!
That pipe you can see is actually the bottom rad hose, which is why it wouldn\'t fit the breather filter :Giggle
The polish guy 2 door down called Natan helped me to fit the coolant hoses. Top one was simple but that bottom one was a real ball ache! I checked the towing eye but couldn\'t see the bolts for it anywhere so that\'s still off the car I had a go at the BOV though. A new freind I\'ve made called Orestis came by actually and did most of it, but either way it\'s fitted....
I\'ll post pics up later.
Im impressed that you got the top hose off without shattering the water pump neck :)
Yeah it\'s fine. However I think the bottom hose needs more attention, I\'ve got water leaking from somewhere and I think it\'s there! I knew it wouldn\'t all be that simple and un-complicated. This you see is why I let other people do it, because if they screw it up they\'re the ones who pay for it! Hopefully I can find out where it\'s coming from tomorrow and fix it, such a shame it was going so well!
Here are some pics from yesterday.

Better pic of the BOV and make shift bung!
And you can just about see the really fricking annoying lower hose here
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc23/BenNova/82ba1d62.jpg)
So here is how the bay looks now
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc23/BenNova/e52c8bdd.jpg)
So just need a few more silicone bits e.g. Turbo elbow, maybe breather pipe depends if I\'m going to change the air filter, there are a few others but don\'t think there are any kits about. I remember koose\'s engine bay, not sure where he got all his from but it looked awesome! He\'d got a lot of aftermarket parts though, parts I don\'t have!
(pic of koose\'s bay below, which is like my idol engine bay. Looks 100x easier to work in as well!)
Next job, after fitting the lower hose properly is this beast
(http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc23/BenNova/cd020037.jpg)
To be replaced with this beast! (which is actually purple not blue as it looks!)
Although I can\'t see any way to remove the stock towing eye!
Look at the stock towing eye on the right hand side (passenger side) of the car. It\'s held on by 3 bolts, look like 16mm to me.
To get to them you need to remove the brake ducts under the bumper on that side, and the headlight washer bottle. If you don\'t have a headlight washed bottle, that\'s even easier. I removed mine because I have no use for it, unless I go for water injection later on - in which case it\'s easy to refit.
OR remove the brake ducts and the bumper. The bumper can be a right pain in the arse if the bolts are rusty, which mine were. I sheared them all, so now mine is held on with long cable ties.
Koose\'s bay is nice, but don\'t remove the cowling unless you\'re fitting an electric fan, and the other thing I\'d do is remove the stock twin 90 degree bend pipe from the turbo to the filter, and fit aftermarket, straighter, better flowing pipe. (I\'ve not done this yet, but will do someday)
Is there 2 x 90 degree bends? I only remember seeing the one that joins to the top mount (which can be seen in the pics) is there another somewhere I haven\'t noticed? Mind you getting as angry as I have with that lower hose pipe I\'m surprised I\'ve seen anything at all through the red mist!!
I\'ve got full on war wounds from trying to fit this arse of a radiator pipe!! It\'s amazing how sharp that fan can be and my arm is so sore now. I\'m going to have to finish that pipe tomorrow I need a new jubilee clip, the oem clamp is just to frustrating and awkward. I don\'t have to space between the fan and the engine to get a pair of pliers in there, to get the clamp over the hose and it\'s fitting place.
The big pipe that goes from the turbo to the air filter is ribbed and flexible and bends 90 degree\'s twice, thus constricting air flow. Fitting something much straighter helps correct this.
(this is what I\'ve learnt talking to prof regarding air flow anyway, and why we bother with compressor tubes etc when various other parts are restrictive, etc etc etc)
And I don\'t suppose it\'s possible to get an aftermarket replacement silicone job that\'s a direct fit?
Course not, that would be to simple right?
No, of course not.
But if you look here at Prof\'s car (scroll down to pics of engine fitted) you\'ll see the pipework he has, basically what looks like a 30\'ish degree silicon bend coming off the turbo into a hard pipe, onto the air filter.
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61619&page=2
Yeah, you have to remove the air pump and emissions stuff before you can go for the straighter pipework, the 2 beds go around the airpump etc, next on my list of things I think lol
Is the airpump removable? Does it not need to be there then? I think my biggest problem is the stock rad and fan set up, what rad and fan set up can I get that will be future proof for say a V-Mount set up? I am understandably cautious as I want to do everything right and Properly and just the once! So on my agenda then is coilovers first, a front strut brace, then a new rad and fan set up with new wheels somewhere between. I\'ll get some more hoses for the engine bay as well to add to the aesthetic appearace of the bay.
Why a front strut brace? If you plan on slamming the car (I don\'t know if you are) then it\'s fairly pointless, I\'ve actually REMOVED my front ARB to make the car less snappy. Especially on a road car, if you create a stripped out track car (whihc you\'re not) then you might get a small benefit.
I\'ve removed my air pump, it\'s what this thread started off being about! See the extra space:
http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71478
Oh right, is the airpump not needed? There is so much info passed around on this forum my brain struggles to cope! Perhaps I should just take it even slower than I am! Anyway thanks for the help, I\'ll get back to researching coilovers, wheels and v-mount rad and fan set ups!
Quote from: B.Martin;780551Oh right, is the airpump not needed? There is so much info passed around on this forum my brain struggles to cope! Perhaps I should just take it even slower than I am! The air pump is needed for emissions and if you have a cat (else it will explode) I have removed mine only due to having an aftermarket ECU that can tweek the idle fueling to pass the MOT. I specifically got an FC as it doesn\'t have as strict emissions as its pre 91, not sure what the MOT is like over there though?
If you do remove the airpump you need to make sure you are running either a dual alternator pulley or an idler pulley for where the air pump was due to the water pump pulley not having the tension of 2 belts driving it (can slip and then the water pump won\'t pump anymore!)
Its easy to remove, but just make sure you have either of the 2 options sorted first! I removed mine within 5 minutes, with the airpump my emissions were 0.18% CO, no cat, port air only (it could pass a cat test with no issues if needed) I think its 3% CO for our cars.
Yeah, if emissions are very loose out there, just remove it all. Although you need blanking plates for the air control valve setup.
I run a dual alternator belt pulley, there\'s one for sale on here for fairly cheap I think.
It\'s not really going to cause me to many problems though by leaving it alone is it? I don\'t want to get to far ahead of myself until I\'m back in the UK and have WGT to sort it out for me. :Giggle

I can\'t find the dual alt pulley for cheap and I need one :(
I\'ve not got a Cyprus MOT and I don\'t think they\'re strict, they last for 2 years for christ sake!! But what I\'m saying is I dont need to remove it do I? It\'s not an issue to leave it on instead of risking breaking something and needlessly spending more cash on blacking plates when I could have coilovers instead etc?
You don\'t need to, they are removed mainly due to space if you need to fit a bigger turbo etc or indeed you need the extra 2bhp it yields from removing it lol
Part of my emissions stuff had been removed already probably about a decade ago, im just finishing the job :D
Maybe I\'ll look into it when I\'ve replaced the rad and fan and am looking for more mods to do to improve the engine bay :Giggle
