If I may, my old girl\'s date of birth was in April of 78

granted there will be those of you that say her steering wheel is on the wrong side, we make it work :)

Right, some figures from my Register.

Series 2 cars........Taxed, older than 01/03/1982..........4 No. (Total these runners 28)
Series 2 cars........SORN or Unlicensed, older..............3 No. (Total SORN/Unlic\'d 50)
Series 2 cars........Not Knowns, (No Reg), but think 1981\'s..2 No. (Total of No Regs 10)

Then there\'s the Series 1 cars.......2 runners older than yours, 15 SORN older, 5 Reg unknowns, Plus 2 S1\'s that have been registered after your S2.

That\'s probably older than any here. We have some 1978 cars but all were imports and registered here later.

1st and 2nd August 1979 was the Reg date of the first UK Series 1 Press Cars at the launch of the RX7 in UK.

Like the joke, let me pull your leg now..... you make the steering wheel work in the US, but we have corners here.......you have to imagine little fields where old carts used to wriggle round hedgerows.....we still follow the same paths.....:2eek

In the Las Vegas area twisties are few and far between. From what I have seen on the TV I could only dream of buzzing through the countryside there. Sadly that will probably never happen. What are the typical speeds traveled on such roads?

60mph is the standard limit for out of town single carriageway roads, though some counties seem to be posting lots of 50 limits nower days on heavily used sections which are narrow and have lots of farm turnings etc.

Many of the corners (at least on the good roads ;)) mean slowing to 40 mph or less, and on what I feel are the best roads you almost ignore the speed limit as you\'ll rarely get to/above it unless you were thrashing it very hard! You can pretty much just accelerate out of the corner till you need to brake for the next.

I live 38 miles away from Stansted airport via the backroads which are quite good fun to drive along in a spirited manner.  However they\'re twisty and not well sighted so whilst most are 60 mph limit and are not heavily policed I would rarely get much above that speed.  The journey takes about an hour if you\'re going steadily, I\'ve done it in rather less time in the RX8 but modesty and a desire not to incriminate myself prohibit me from revealing that.

My satnav has been good to me on the last few occasions. Castle combe I got 28 miles of good flowing A road\'s in the FD (not busy either) and Cadwell park got 20 miles of A roads.

Bit hyper when I got to the hotel though !

Oddly if I am taking the 8 out on track I will drive along boring roads all the way there and back so I have more fun on the track.  Given my nearest track is just off the A11 it\'s a good boring drive there.
