Hi everyone,
I am thinking ahead with my FC build, when I do fit my T88 and the V mount I will be keeping the OEM turbo II bonnet, but put some slats in it for air flow through the V mounted IC.
I am keeping the car as OEM looking as I can, so will still have the OEM bonnet scoop, I was thinking of perhaps ducting it to the rear rotor/gearbox but then I thought about something else.
The OEM FC oil cooler is ok for 500bhp - its MASSIVE and runs the whole width of the radiator and it pretty chunky.
I am going to have to upgrade this so that I can get better oil cooling for the extra power and the fact the turbo is oil cooled - might get a tad hot!
I was thinking, instead of a top mounted intercooler, what about a top mounted oil cooler? All the mountings would be there to run a core, doesn\'t need to be air going through it does it?
Would running a large square oil cooler where the OEM IC was work ok? Ive never seen it done before mainly due to no-one really keeping the OEM bonnet when changing the IC setup.
The OEM oil cooler is rather large and hot, and I don\'t really want it blocking too much of my air flow into the rad and intercooler at the front - I was originally thinking of flat mounting it, but a TMOC sounds a bit different!
Thoughts?
Thinking outside the box is what life is all about I guess. Im not sure it\'d be great if you got stuck in traffic though.

Same with the OEM TMIC, although its not like I will be on full boost under full load when in traffic :P might fit an electric fan onto the bottom of it or something if needed
The other thing to worry about would be leaks. If you ever got one at the very least your gonna be p1$$ed cause you\'d have to clean everything.
With the oil cooler isn\'t it down the bottom because it\'s then level with the rest of the system and putting it on top is going to take more work for it to pump oil round the system?
Hi Mitch I have a V mount, you won\'t need slats in your bonnet, I run a set of twins on my fd at 1 bar\'ish and it has been fine. If I were you i would try before you cut.
I personlly would keep the cooler at the front if i were you or mybe get a more efficient smaller one for the front. Seeing that the newest your oil cooller can be is 20 year (unless it has been replaced at some pint) it probably could do with being renewed.
I am thinking perhaps twin Mocals now - where the FDs OEM coolers are (I know the type R has twin coolers) although I guess im not on boost all the time, so the OEM cooler might be ok?
I would want to run some sort of slats in the bonnet for the V mount else the air has nowhere to go lol its a custom V mount by Hayward rotary, so might be very close to the bonnet (ie no air gap)
