Title: Rx7 Eats fanbelts!
Post by: Anthony Bentley on June 17, 2011, 02:01:04 PM
Hi,

Just replaced water pump as it had seized and lunched on a fan belt. Replaced pump and it is still starting to lunch on this belt!

Usually  the viscous fan...rev it up and see if the belt slips then take the fan and coupler off and try it again

My guess would be the same as Aubec\'s - belt tension?

I believe that my RX-4 solution will help,

When I first got the car on the road, with the correct belt fitted it was like an elastic band, never stayed adjusted and eventually shredded "every time"

My solution was to fit a bigger section belt and it hasn\'t even needed adjusting since also bearing in mind I did 700 miles in one go at the weekend :chat

Tomorrow I will get out a spare belt from the boot of the RX-4 and get the code because even if the length is wrong it will give you the section size to translate across.

Odds are it is the (now non-viscous...) viscous fan. They just get stiffer and stiffer until they are running at engine speed all the time, and it just puts too much pressure on the belt. (keeps the engine nice and cool though...)
