Title: Knight sports, Boost FD
Post by: leefitz on June 09, 2011, 11:13:54 PM
Hey, could do with some advice on my boost. What\'s the safe level to be running at? The car is running a Knight sport ecu. Don\'t have much info on that so have no idea on what way it controls the fuelling etc. Everything else is standard apart from non sequential turbo setup and manual boost controller. Obviously I want to pull what I can form the engine but don\'t want to put her at risk either.
Your words of wisdom would be great.
 Cheers lads

comes down to whether or not you have stock injectors... is so, I wouldn\'t go over 1bar, and that\'s with excellent flowing injectors too

Cheers man, yea stock injectors with 56k miles under there belt so wouldn\'t say there fantastic. Is there truly an additive you can run though the car to clean the injectors? Can you run larger injectors in a car without ecu and mapping? That\'s something i assumed you couldn\'t? Currntly the cars full load boost is about .65/7.

You could contact knightsports and see what the ECU is mapped for. Thats what i did with mine when i was running a knightsports ECU.

Think I went to do that before but had problems. How much was your ecu different compared to a standard ecu?

they could map it for 500psi.. you dont have the injector to go over 1bar safely ... if they tweeked it id prbably even stay under 13psi. max injector is maxed injector.  Personally, i wouldnt trust fuel injector cleaners, that just me.. Id rather spend the extra instead of building a new motor.. 56k injectors isnt much at all either.. but who knows..

Cheers for that man. Mite open the boost up a we bit more then but not much. I remember reading somewhere before that some of the ecu\'s are tuned also to deal with decat too? I was on there website but couldn\'t make head nor tail of it to get an address to ask about my ecu. Who do I contact?

Hope you dont think I was trying to be a prick. Just dont know anyone else to help with the situation but the people themselves.

Sorry if it came off that way..

Hey, got my reply

Dear Lee-san.
.
Hello.
I am very sorry to delay for your reply.
.
As.to the spec, 710338 as follows;
.
type-advance
sotck turbocharger
mazda speed muffler
HKS power flow air cleaner
boost set 0.9kg/cm2
rev limit : canceled
metering.oil pump :. addtional
fun control :. 85C.
.
Regards,
.
Takeshi,.

Soreally there nothing that fancy about the ecu then. I\'ll not be changing anything apart from boost to maybe .8 bar or so, no higher really. Although, what\'s fun control?

fun control = fan control?

rev limit : cancelled
hmm that sounds worrying, do they really mean its just been raised from stock or can you rev it until your engine explodes. lol

I was under the impression that there was no rev limit anyway? But yea sadly under a few occasions iv had her rev to she reves no more. Bad practice I know but in the heat of the drift sometimes it\'s not beneficial to change gear at that time.

I\'m pretty sure it\'s just a confusion between "rev limiter" and "speed limiter".

My stock FC had no limiter on it, now have a Knightsports chipped ecu that has now reduced that to 9k rpm :rollin

Ha haa, great reduction lol what way is the chipped ecu\'s then? There much of a difference to a standard knight sports ecu?

Hey, im getting my hands on large intercooler. Is this something that can be wisely added to the car? I wont be heart broke if its not wise to fit it as it was got at a good price and ill happely keep it until such a time i am able to use it. But i would be lieing if i said i didnt egarly want to fit it to the car asap lol

A larger intercooler is good as the OEM intercooler can get restrictive and become an \'interwarmer\' at certain boost levels, what sort is it? is it SMIC/FMIC or V mount?

I would also upgrade the radiator if you havn\'t done so already, plastic end caps on the OEM radiator get brittle and can crack

Its a front mount intercooler 600x280x80mm but can be used in v-mount as well if needed. Haven\'t decided what way to use it yet. its one of the intercoolers from the group buy on fduk

the rad has already been upgraded to the toyo duel core or duel flow rad, good chunk of a thing lol.

so you think get her in then asap ;D  well seeing as is for the drifter and heat and airflow is an issue, whats the better option, v-mount or front mount?

Probably V mount for less lag, get some electric fans on the back of the IC and radiators to a switch in the cabin, turn them on full for when you drift

Sounds good, was thinking v mount myself but not the fans. i have a second set of FD fans that could be fitted to the IC so thats that sorted. just need to get some ideas on mounting the v mount as iv never seen anyones setup or indeed how this one should fit. i think there is fitment answers on the fduk group buy thread.
