Title: 95 fd no power
Post by: robbierx7 on June 08, 2011, 03:04:56 PM
hey guys,
hopefully someone can help with the problem im havin.
my fd is starting perfect every time, hot and cold. its idleing fine, but when i give it any heavy throttle at all, is it bogging down and backfiring.
my boost gauge is telling me that turbos are not boosting at all. if i ease the throttle down slowly, car is revving right up. its only happening under heavy acceloration.
is this a fuel problem or something more serious?

any help would be much appreciated

thanks

robbie

Well what I know about car mechanicals you could write on the back of a postage stamp and have room to spare but I would bet its a turbo issue

im not far behind you there!! ha i tried a boost leak test and didnt find anything severe enough to cause this. i do have a hks single turbo kit on the way from japland so im hoping that might sort out my problem! i was told it could be a map sensor too??

I\'m sure the single turbo conversion will do it as sounds like the turbo isn\'t spooling up right. I would guess knackered bearings so it loses all the air it manages to get but doesn\'t have the guts to give it to the engine. Now I could be talking out my arse but it makes me sound clever so I like to try lol.

Can you get to the turbos to feel if they have play on their shafts? Also what makes me pretty sure that its the turbos is because you say the engine runs fine. Just down on power. If it was serious the engine wouldn\'t be running properly. For example if you had lost a rotor

sure any input is welcome, even if you are talking out your arse haha. yeh the engine is running fine, until i press the load pedal, then it goes t1ts up!
i was putting it down to either turbo problem or else not enough fuel getting to the engine for some reason. ill be changing fuel pump etc with the new set up.

if its popping and no power its probably running lean mate, have you got a wideband installed?

could it have gone in to limp mode, that will not let you rev it up and it will only let you drive at slow speeds

i havnt got wideband installed. i have heard a lot of people talking about wideband though, especially on the american rotary sites. what exactly is it?!

@ adib: is there any way of telling if its gone into limp mode? or any way of resetting it to get it out of it?

Could try getting it out of limp mode by putting a viagra in the fuel tank?  Lol

Yes have a look at this, it\'s a small squareish box on the bulkhead, could be the pipe has just come off

^^ if this happened it wouldn\'t idle right...

are you running a single turbo with a stock ecu?? not sure what your setup is.
Does it rev ok on no load?
Do you still have the stock cats on?

whats up lads, thanks for all your input in helping me try get the car sorted. i was convinced it was a boost issue but it turns out it was the ecu?! put a new apex and pfc in it and its running better than ever now.
hopefully this might help someone else out with a simular problem :)
