Hi everyone, I am in need of some opinions on this, I am getting old (just bought a Volvo diesel estate) and I need everyones opinions on this.
I have a T88 with wastegate sitting in my room ready to go and have a custom V mount setup with rad ready to fit in the garage, thing is, should I fit them? I would need to get a custom manifold made up and vent the bonnet etc meaning that the car would be making almost 600bhp or so at low boost.
The car isn\'t getting driven much as it is, so I am thinking of just selling on the T88 and V mount any maybe even the spare bridgeported engine I have and just fit a T04 or something to the standard engine and get some good power, im sure even with the stock turbo it will get into the 13s.
I have 2 routes:
Route 1:
T88
Cage
Racing seats
Fire system
Harnesses
Route 2:
T04 or maybe GT4088
OEM seats
+ loads of parts to sell
I am beginning to think that I might as well just sell on the engine, T88 and custom Vmount and run a T04 or GT4088 with the uprated top mount, won\'t really need a BP engine for a smaller turbo, fueling would of course be uprated, but the box will be fine and the clutch is good for 700bhp already.
What does everyone think? The car is used for a blast every now and then plus going down santapod every once in a while - it would be cool to run it with the T88, massive power etc but £££s
and you said your fc will be faster than mine *pff*
:p
depends what kinda toy you want really.
Is this the moment where someone is ment to chirp up and tell you to man up? Or should I just direct you to my sig below!
This is the typical conundrum for the FC owner :
Keep it stock or mod it to death...
Reliable, Inexpensive and Powerful - chose any 2
I guess you had something in mind when setting out on the path of FC ownership, but you\'re not decided where to go now. I wouldn\'t worry about blowing an engine - it will eventually happen - sooner rather than later if you don\'t do many miles in the car and do upgrade it to big power levels. Is it a car you want to enjoy on the street? If so, then maybe a compromise on power levels... If you want to take it to the strip and run sub 12 times, then you\'ll need the big turbo, and considerable other monies spent on it - and the car will not be overly street friendly.
You\'re decision.... :driving:driving:driving
Plan 1)
Anything else and you will always wonder what might have been...

Brett has a good point.

So does Prof!
A hard one this, I guess it depends what you REALLY want and what you want to spend
I kinda have all the parts I need, things left to fit the T88:
Custom manifold and downpipe
Vent the bonnet/vented bonnet
Fire system
Roll cage
Harnesses
1 x extra fuel pump
1 x set of FD or R32 GTR rims
If going for plan 1 I would have spare:
1 x engine
1 x TMIC (presold)
1 x uprated rad (presold)
1 x full upgraded and rebuilt OEM turbo
go for fast road car...

This requires your car to actually run and not break down again, otherwise it\'s just a case of being faster than the flatbed your car sleeps on. :p

aww so sweet you guys.. you all so jealous :rollin
fc is running well now, gd compression, just like all fc has a few small jobs / tweeks but other than that its spot on :Thumbs-up
maybe some day you too can have a good fc like mine :rollin
Hey I never knocked your FC ;)
Well you don\'t need a vented bonnet fo ra v mount, so you can sack that off and save some money there for starters. I don\'t know why you need a cage, seats, harnesses etc to just run it with the new setup - do them afterwards if you decide you want to.
Stay with what you\'ve got, selling that engine was hard enough for the guy you bought it from.
From someone who\'s also been arsing about with stuff that\'s half fitted and unmapped, I say just pull your finger out and do it, otherwise you\'ll spend a long time regretting it.
I\'d go the opposite way you must have 1 million posts sying you have a t88 sat at home. Get a cheaper/slightly slower set up, sell all your stuff and use the money for track or drift days.
Its just more realistic.

How would the airflow work for a V mounted IC without a vented bonnet lol thats a bit like bolting a plate of metal behind a FMIC and wondering why its not working :2Rolleyes
Why wouldn\'t I want a cage and harnesses? Car has no ABS or airbags, car will be running almost 300% stock power :2eek
Im in no rush for fitting stuff, the car will never be for sale, so I have plenty of time, also the car is mapped, its on a chipped ECU and im being careful with anything I add or tweek, seems to be working ok so far with this approch as my compression is 7.2s on the front 6.9s on the rears @ 89k miles
The problem with asking for advice is you\'ll get it - and not all of it will be what you want to hear ;)
With any modded car - you don\'t have to drive it flat out, and the car should be driveable slowly to get you used to it before going hell for leather.
The roll cage is a good idea if you want to do track days or drag strip - but isn\'t a necessity - there are a lot of 500+ hp cars on the streets with no roll cages.
The vented bonnet - I have to agree with you - I think the vmount setup would work better if the upper air path has somewhere to exhaust too - either get an old bonnet and have someone professionally butcher it for you, or get an off the shelf one.
No point in you having a fast street FC - as you never drive it much :):Laugh

The air exits exactly the same way as it does with a conventional setup - it flows through the IC and evacuates down the tunnel and out the rear of the bay at the base. It also means no adding big ugly bonnet vents, and no messing with the stock aero and cooling.
It\'s absolutely nothing like putting a plate behind an FMIC, so no need for the condescending rolling of eyes. A properly ducted V mount with a stock bonnet is still devastatingly effective when on the move.

I\'m not saying you wouldn\'t dude, but the point I\'m trying to make is that you don\'t
need those to get the new setup up and running. I\'d love a half cage and a decent suspension setup, but they aren\'t neccessary to get my car running and mapped - it\'s not mutually inclusive.
Get the car running and enjoy it. Every time I drive my unmapped car I get hugely frustrated that I can\'t put my foot down, because instead of concentrating on getting 100% of the engine bits I need and getting it mapped, I\'ve spent money on spangles and trinkets. If I hadn\'t done that I could at least drive it without worrying about it imploding all the time! :Hammer

Ok, Bride race seat with 6 point harness holes has been removed and some OEM seats have been put in its place, what else should I not worry about? :Thumbs-up
