So chaps and chap-ettes.
What did it cost you to get yours on the road?
Did you buy yours as a runner or did you get a broken Rex and give it a new lease of life?
Would be great to find out how you all started your ownership :)
My TII was £1300 but I brought it just as I\'d moved from UK to Cyprus! it\'s cost me another £1000 give or take to ship it over here. Before that when I was 18 I had an fc3s egi n/a model because at the time I couldn\'t afford insurance on a turbo. Turned out in the end I couldn\'t afford that either but swore to myself I\'d get a \'proper\' one when I could afford it.
Now here I am waiting patiently for her to arrive in Cyprus in about 2 weeks time..
My story is not so good I\'m afraid but I\'m sure others will be!
My TII was £1550 off the same fella Ben got his off. Only I got mine around 4-5 years ago. She\'d done about 15-20k on a rebuild at the time with 72K on the clock iirc.
I got mine in October 2002, give or take 6 months off the road in that entire tme, it\'s been driven virtually every day, seen 3 hoods, a windscreen, ingested a gearbox, several clutches, brake disks and pads, a set of suspension and 4 1/2 engines :) - oh and it\'s done 105,000 miles with me driving it, and it had 73,000 on the clock when I got it.
I paid £3500 for it then, and I\'ve spent a total of another £10K give or take a few bob (that includes the engines, exhaust, brakes, gearbox and other bits). Aside from fuel and so on, that\'s a cost of £1500 a year. :driving
Prof, you just abuse your car really dont you? lol
mine hasnt really cost me much, just regular service items, new rear brake caliper and soon a clutch slave cylinder (when I can find one), with mods on top... looking around the £1500 mark

Nah - it\'s loved to bits :Laugh - and what\'s the point in owning a rotary and not driving it !:cheers
My EGI cost me £550 delivered to the door as a non runner, and aside from a few nagging little necessities (changed the set of spark plugs, de-flooded it), and needing new alloys that actually fit, along with a pair of new tyres, a bit of welding due it\'s way, and a few other small bits and pieces it\'s basically roadworthy, will let you know a total cost of getting mine mechanically sound enough to drive on the road, once it\'s on the road! :D
Not including tax and insurance, buying and getting mine on the road will likely have cost me sub-1k
seems like i got mine a bit too expensive...
I got my JDM 1990 TII for 3500 pounds in May 2010, Was a drift car back in Japan so it comes with all the mods. If i have known my way better in the UK i wouldn\'t have bought it really, but well it was my first year i moved from NZ to UK.
Spent 700 pounds getting a new clutch slave and master cylinder and a new water pump. Spent 4 months on the axle stand rebuilding the suspension system and the inlet system. It has been a daily car after that, goes to drift days when i can and at least once a week a blast through the Back roads. Still running strong start first time.
Also being such a 21 years old car there\'s always something to work on lol.

Ain\'t that the truth T_T
Great stuff guys!
I\'m guessing the performance is comparable to an Mx5 for the N/As? (But much better looking/sounding ;))
Casey? You got a non-runner that merely needs some TLC and minor fettling to get it back on the road for £550?! That\'s astounding! Where did you find that?!
Tiddles and Ben, who did you gets yours from if you don\'t mind me asking?
And on a side note, thanks to the Team for seeing my membership through!
A guy on here called Ramirez... Top guy.
But he brought it off RX motors down south only 2 months before i had it off him. Mine has also had a rebuild around 20k ago. Cant wait to get it out here and start enjoying her, already brought some samco silicone hoses, hks airfilter, feed oil cap, re-amemiya rad cap and no doubt something else by the time it finally arrives here lol. (trying to convince myself its not a good idea to buy a RE-Am boost guage.)
Once you get the rotary bug its a matter of time before it takes over you and before you know it you\'ve contracted the un-curable disease... You become a ROTOR HEAD!!
:evillaugh
As above really. Think he\'s called Simon. Just a regular guy who loves the rotary from what I gather. He only had mine a couple of months too.At the time he couldn\'t afford to run the fc as a daily as he had another Jap car too. He\'s had an FD inbetween our FC\'s too.
So far, 89 n/a cost me £350 with about 4months tax and mot, so far ive spent about £50on little things like switches and belts although i havent really used it much at the moment and currently just sorting rusty wings, apart from that she starts fine and drives great :D

Lacey not Casey :p but close enough.
Was advertised as a quick sale for £700 on auto trader as \'mechanically perfect\', then the owner flooded it, and also said that when he was driving it, it just bogged out and lost all power.
Since it was flooded, and he didn\'t know how to un-flood it, didn\'t know what had gone, and just needed rid of it, dropped the price. Apart from the jacking points, the whole underneath of the car is completely mint as well :Thumbs-up bonus or what?! :Laugh
It just needs some TLC, also since I havn\'t driven it yet, I still have yet to find out what made \'it lose all power and become really slow\' as he put it, like \'somebody had stuck a potato up the exhaust\', could be one of the sensors that\'s blown or come undone, part of the system not working properly, or, it could be that it\'s blasted a huge hole in the exhaust manifold XD lol
But yeah, that\'s about the whole story, pics and more detail here :)

My TII vert cost me £500, very rusty, not moved for 7 years on someones driveway. Then:
LOTS of welding wire and gas, and some cashola for a mates time welding it
Windscreen
Wheels + tyres, then more wheels and tyres
Coilovers
Bucket seat + subframe
Arches rolled
Gear knob
Boss + steering wheel
Bumper
Bonnet
Exhausts 1 + 2
Gauges, wire and switches
Fuel filter, plugs, oil
Dual belt alternator pulley
Magnecor KV85 leads
Frigging loads of stuff, LOTS of time, but the car is still worth at least as much as I\'ve poured in. For the first time in my life! That\'ll change when I have to replace the roof. Then there\'re other things I want. Blah, blah, it\'ll add up VERY quickly. In fact, it already has!
Wow. Looks like there\'s some really good deals to be had if you can put in the hours.
Lacey, what\'s wrong with the jacking points? Smashed/buckled/rusted...?
And sorry Lacey :s I will endeavour to aim my thumbs at the right buttons in future.
Kamatari, is that 350 for a runner?!
So top tip from you guys would be to find some non enthusiast idiot from eBay and buy broken?
Mine was found on a driveway, not ebay. I\'d already been driving past it for a year before I knocked on the guys door.

Top tip this!
Its either that or be patient, I waited a long time before the right TII at the right price cane up. And once it arrives, I\'m lucky it\'s been welded up and i dont really have to worry about rust out here... But road tax is high I think, insurance isn\'t, but I will be paranoid about the temp gauges in the summer!
Bit of a Radom ramble there!
Summary is keep an eye out and be pacient one will come up eventually!
Quote from: Kodiak;766781Kamatari, is that 350 for a runner?!
Yup pretty much runs fine apart from a pulsing idle at times, it survived a 3hr drive on the motorway back to mine and then ive only really drove it for a week whilst my mx5 was off the road, can\'t afford two lots of insurance at the moment though
The car had 4 months tax and 4 months mot and apart from some rusty wings, but on the sunroof and the wheels need refurbing, its all good :)
Theres rx7 fc for sale over at driftworks, with mods taken off i think its going for £450 and looks in pretty good nick
Quote from: Kodiak;766781Lacey, what\'s wrong with the jacking points? Smashed/buckled/rusted...?

Both buckled and rusted, all 4 of them all the way round, the rest seems pretty sound though, bit of bubble rust on drivers side back arch but that\'s all I;ve found so far. Just needs the current jacking points cut off and new ones welded on, shouldn\'t be too costly in comparison to having a new floor!
And no worries :)
Sounds exactly the same as mine Lacey buckled right back up, don\'t know why people don\'t jack on the bit just inside, the round bit, can\'t remember what it\'s called
might as well join in and giv everyone laugh.
learned the hard way but oh well..
car £1800
replacement ecu £300(ish) that was before i was on the forum and the rotary specialist i went to, their staff had a spare, yes got con\'ed but that was before i knew better.
3" exhaust £150 (already had kakimoto cat back)
CF bonnet £300
BGW £50?
Spray £1000
Rebuild, map etc £3000 ish
xp poo tub, mani, wastegate £300ish (though turned out to be cheese so only using wastegate now, which is fooked and wont close properly)
T04E + HKS mani £300ish
PFC + harness etc £550
Profec B £150ish?
Strut bars
Infini seats couple hundred
Rear bins
ARF wing mirrors
Front lip
Rear RE-A spats
Diffuser
Side skirt
im sure theres more that i cant think of.. could of had a really nice holiday instead but not as much fun lol
Yeah so if you unsure of trying a mod out... Ask Liam first he\'s probably tried it and learned the hard way, so you you don\'t have to ;) :D
Poor Liam :p
I bought my car (Turbo II Cab) for about £500 as a non runner...
I think I spend about £1000 ish on parts for a rebuild (which I did myself) and probably another £500 on filters, belts, plugs, tools, etc
so £2000 in all... But if I\'d had some tools to start with and didn\'t buy some unneccesary parts it probably would have cost around £1200...
Although there\'s still some tinkering to do to get it just right, lol
Quote from: Skifledanabit;766900Sounds exactly the same as mine Lacey buckled right back up, don\'t know why people don\'t jack on the bit just inside, the round bit, can\'t remember what it\'s called
Yours pass MOT like that? Or not had that privilege yet?
And I know the but you mean, the bit I jack on under the arch liner, part of the suspension I think
You both need a BMW scissor jack like mine! It\'s perfect for getting my car high enough to get the trolley jack under the sides to jack off the front wishbone mount (big flat plate, very strong), and when I jack the rear up I just use the tow hooks, of which there is one on either side.
If you car isn\'t low, you can jack off the front tow hooks too (the ones under the car, not the one sticking out of the bumper).
I actually have to drive onto a large block of wood to get the front high enough to get the scissor jack under the sill, and then use the scissor jack to get the car high enough to get the trolley jack under! Stupidly low or what?

Yes, but I have a friendly, neighbourhood spider-MOT-man, and erm, could be, it looks like a disc but it\'s part of the suspension
