Hi all,
sorry for my first post to be a question.
I\'ve just brought my first RX7 - a 1990 Turbo 2 convertible.
On the drive home I noticed that the car didn\'t seem to be coming onto boost.
When I put my foot to the floor in 3rd gear the standard gauge will only just go up to 0.
The car feels like it\'s boosting slightly but just not what I expected it to.
The power seems more linear like a NA car opposed to a turbo\'d car.
I\'ve checked all the pipework and they seem to be ok. The car seems to be running perfectly other than that aswell.
There is also quite a strong smell of petrol coming out the back which I presume to be down to it overfueling.
Any help will be appreciated and I will put up a proper first post later with an introduction.
Thanks
Ben
Hi there! Welcome into the forum!
It might be an issue with the actuator on the turbo, the actual actuator might have fallen off the little pin that is attached to the wastegate arm, meaning that everything working, but the wastegate actuator isn\'t attached to the wastegate.
Don\'t forget to get some photos up of your car :D
Welcome. First posts are ment to be a question arn\'t they!
As M1tch says it could well be the actuator/arm. They have been known to pop off the wastegate lever. Its hard to see when its postion. I\'ve also known the wastegate flap to stick in postion. If its stuck open then that\'d cause low boost.

i would also stick a proper boost gauge on it to be sure you know what its running. What exhaust is it running? if stock, sometimes the cat can be blocked causing richness and no boost.
Thanks for the replies!
There is quite a strong smell of petrol in the cabin aswell! I say quite it is actually very strong!
My first thoughts was to put on another boost gauge aswell. The car seems to be pulling in every gear as if it was boosting but there is no surge of power. Saying that I don\'t think the boost is anywhere near it should be!
I Will look at the above tomorrow :)
Thanks for all your help already!
Ben
Is that a fresh petrol smell or burnt rich petrol smell?
If it\'s a fresh smell I recommend u not to drive the car. The injector seals failed on mine before and u can find quite a bit of petrol on the nice hot engine which is not safe at all lol
Louis
it\'s burnt petrol I believe.
Update on today.
I\'ve driven it back from work and the standard boost gauge went up to nearly half way?!
Looking more likely to be a boost gauge than anything else?!
Just waiting on a new boost gauge then we\'ll see for sure.
Thanks
Ben
