Great race... But what do we make if Hamilton and the stewards (and Massa for that matter)?

I think 6 of one, half a dozen of the other...

Whats happened with them?

I said this a little earlier on the Who wins thread....

Just watched the Grand Prix from today. From a spectators view point i feel a little cheated out of a great finish to a great race.
I understand accidents happen and with that track the race may have to be stopped due to safety (red flag) but then i feel its wrong the teams are then allowed to change things on the car (even touch them to be honest) such as the tyres. With 6 laps to go Vettel\'s tyres were on the point of falling off the car they were so worn and with Alonso and Button (especially him) had the chance to take the race from him as they were on better tyres.
With the teams allowed to change anything they wanted it was just like a restart in fresh cars

I reckon it should have been stopped after the red flag.  It was shaping up to be a good final few laps but under red flag conditions when they\'re going to restart then the teams can do what they want to the cars, they\'re not under parc ferme conditions.  The fresh tyres was an inevitable consequence of the decision to restart after the red flag, it is just unfortunate it played into Red Bull\'s hands.  They got very lucky on this occasion but had it been the other way round it would have been played out in a similar way.

As for Hamilton and the Stewards, it\'s unfortunate but again that\'s racing.  I\'m glad there was plenty of action in the race as well.  DRS and KERS do seem to make for good races and lively action.

great race to watch but such a shame that we never got to see the end of the battle between vettel, alonso and button.

Hamilton showed himself to be the arrogant jumped up .... I thought he was. Throwing his toys out of the pram when things weren\'t going his way. So refreshing to see button and the way he carries himself even when things aren\'t going his way. Both incidents involving Hamilton were ad a result of his overexuberence/frustration at being stuck behind "slower" cars and his inability to pass them cleanly.

Think Brundle put it best - it\'s anyones fault but Hamiltons

He nearly had Schu off (not even halfway along side)

Then he barged into Massa at the hairpin (Massa should have conceided in the tunnle cause that crash was always going to happen)

Then at the end he did the same too far back attempt on Pastor but unlike Schu, Pastor held the racing line.

Anyway, fantastic race & it was a shame for the red flag near the end.  I agree, the most they should be able to do is put tyre warmers on the cars!

Hamilton likes to overtake, Monaco makes for very little overtaking as such a tight track, thought the race was good but was lying down watching it and fell asleep at lap 60 - 76 :o so missed all the action :rollin:rollin:rollin

I don\'t think Hamilton\'s actions were any worse than any other driver\'s would have been in the circumstances.  I like the fact he races hard, makes for interesting races.

The Monaco gp is a farce. How can they call it a race when no one actually races??

The race only takes place to keep the super rich happy due to their contributions to the sport. In monaco you are considered poor if you don\'t have a minimum of 100,000,000 in the bank.

What kind of "racing" comes down to pit stops and tyre changes?? Vettel did most of the race on one set of tyres!! Knowing the fact that no one would be able to pass him even if he was losing grip.

It\'s a complete joke.

I disagree.  Monaco is a good race, there was overtaking and the strategy element makes it interesting.  Formula 1 doesn\'t have as much overtaking as Touring Cars or MotoGP but that doesn\'t make it less interesting.

Kind of +1 on this tbh!

The winning of races is more often than not done in the pits with strategy and tactics. I have been getting into F1 a little more during the last couple of years but felt very cheated watching what had the potential to be what you could actually describe as racing yesterday. Decisions made in the pits, Button going for a tyre change during the possibility of a safety car and Vettel being able to change tyres after the red flag, decided the result yesterday. It may prove interesting but is this racing??

I understand Pirelli have designed the tyres to degrade heavily this year and dont really get this. They are now not allowed to stop for fuel so why not make a tyre that would last say 2/3 or 3/4 the race, thus putting a lot more emphasis on driver ability to how they use their tyres to get through the race and how they are able to nurse a worn set to the end if they want to stay out. Also think if your under a safety car, which i understand you have to have, you shouldnt be allowed to stop and return out as lead car.

I will say though i like the addition of drs and by all accounts should prove interesting at Canada as there will be 2 activation points!

As for Hamilton, i do like his driving attitude, however sometimes it does smack of spoilt brat attitude, there was never realistically a gap to go for yesterday unless of course the driver turning into the apex was very generous and backed off, would Hamilton have backed off if it was him turning in!

I also think the blue flag needs revision, if your blue flagged you should immediately let the driver through and on that basis, no one can take advantage and pass you for position.

Ayrton Senna used to go for gaps that didn\'t exist and ran people off the road to win World Championships doing it and he\'s remembered as one of the World\'s Greatest.  Whilst Hamilton shouldn\'t be considered in the same breath as Senna, although time may tell, I think he has an element of that ruthless streak that is part of the essential make up of a very successful racing driver.

I have just seen Lewis apparently is quoted as saying to the stewards because he has been in front of the them 5 times out of 6 races this season, "joke stewards" and "is it because i am black"

Well done Lewis, chip on your shoulder perhaps?

Lewis likes to race and actually overtake. Also if Schumacher does those sorts of passes nothing gets said. So I can kinda see why Lewis is a bit ......ed TBH.

vetel is v lucky as usual having been saved in the race by the sc in first place which put him into lead as button had just pitted then changes tyres on red flag.

alonso had a good steady race and was a pretty racey towards the end

button had a good race shame it didnt pan out for him with the sc comming out a lap or 2 after he had stopped from 16 sec lead.

lewis made a couple of lunges from to far out made from frustration that the guys in front were actually raccing him and staying ahead. the way he spat the dummy out afterwards was pretty poor and smelt of spoilt kid to me.

also all of drivers had been punished for last gasp overtakes it was not solely aimed at hamilton. di resta was done for exactley the same thing at the hairpin

overall it was a great race except the end when they robbed us of a great 5 lap run on used tyres by letting them put fresh rubber on. was a real shame tbh

Awesome !!!!:Giggle

Monaco is a great spectacle there is no doubt, but a good race track, not really, two nasty accidents out of the tunnel due the lump in the road and they arent the first there by all accounts and very few places to overtake, which unfortunately leads to frustrated drivers literally being held up, its ridiculous to think that you can be say 2 secs or more a lap slower but still stay ahead, that is not racing for sure!

The funny thing is that the Drivers love it.  I think they like the zero room for error and the fact that if you win at Monaco you\'re at the top of your game.

Button was robbed because of that waaaaannnnnk rule that allows a tyre change in a red flag stoppage. End of story.

Don\'t think button would of overtaken alonso even if vettels
tyres had gone off.

So to sum up, good race - we like on track fighting, but they can all STFU off track :Giggle

Hamilton has balls in going for overtakes, the overtake on Schumy was awesome and at Monaco as well, Weber also did an awesome overtake on Kobi, yes he can act like a spoilt brat, but afterall we are forgetting he is still very young.
The sport needs characters like Hamilton.
To my mind Button was so unlucky not to win as the cards didnt fall his way, his pace was awesome and him and Webber did the fastest laps in the race itself, proves they can drive.

They defo should change the rule on being able to work on the car due to a red flag, it should be parc ferme conditions

Pirelli are asking the FIA to ban red flag tyre changes.

+1 for that and to add no tyre changes due to a safety car.

I like Hamiltons driving style Mr Blitz, but overtaking and going for gaps that just arent there are 2 different things and will land him in trouble, as for all his arm waving and cleverly worded statements from the in car mike just ruins all his positive attitude imho.
