alright guys im new, currently looking at buying a members fc3 vert turbo II from here, always wanted an fc3 since initial d(yes i am that sad), hopefully all will go through next weekend and ill be a regular here.
i did have an ace carbon clad st205 gt-four which i spent thousands on and sold this weekend, also got an eg6 civic.
i have friends of friends who build rx7 engines and i know the very basics/very little but dont want to ask them too many questions yet till im collecting the car,
how much oil and fuel do these things get through on average, i understand they are high maintainance cars and if you have fuel concerns they are not for you lol.
what sort of checks should you be doing on the engine to ensure its running correctly? as i understand from pals after 50-60k they need rebuilds, heard loads of rumours and what not from pals and forums about reliability, but thought the best place to get a genuine answer is from the real world of owners.
also are the turbo 2\'s single or twin turbo???
anyway hope to be part of the rx7 community as of next weekend :) :WaveBye
ps what are the parts like to get hold of for these? and are there many aftermarket parts avalible, including performance and carbon fibre etc???
Welcome to Mrc..Hope you have a great time here! Its a friendly site and both members and guests are very helpful here...
Mir
Welcome! :D

But welcome anyway :D

Okay checks, I\'m no expert and other people will tell you way more, but basic checks are first and foremost RUST, age on these cars is not always friendly and you don\'t want to buy something with no floor, though you \'tend\' to be safer on the verts as they have either 3 of 4 skins to the floor, coupe\'s only have one. Also check things like wheel arches, jacking points, sills, everywhere that\'s a common MOT failure for rust.
Check for things like does it start first time, how does it sound, is it an even idle, if it\'s uneven then ask why, if it\'s ported, etc.
50-60k rebuilds is rubbish if it\'s been well looked after. Mines on 93k with no rebuild and some people (very few) have gone past 150k with no rebuild, but it depends how well the cars been looked after and how hard its been thrashed. If it\'s been poorly maintained and thrashed daily then 40 - 50k rebuilds are common, but a cared for rotary can last up to about 100k for a Turbo-II as long as it\'s sound and none of the ancillaries contribute towards engine wear.
Also, Turbo-II\'s are single-turbo as standard, I don\'t think I\'ve seen a twin-turbo 13b FC3 in person before, but I\'ve heard of a few. It\'s the FD3 that\'s sequential twin-turbo as standard.
People badmouth rotaries a lot for being unreliable, but they\'re only usually unreliable if you either A) buy one that has a lot of problems in the first place, or B) have no idea how to look after one and maintain it.
They have a bad name for no real reason, cracking engines and, well maintained, last for donkeys years. :Thumbs-up
Hope that\'s of use?
cheers guys its the wide arch vert on here with overfenders, white and stanced out a little the engine hasnt been messed with either.
cheers for the info too, how much oil should they be drinking regularly and what oil is recommended???
also what power can you push these on the stock turbo??
Where in the UK do you live?
staffordshire/west midlands mate but the one im looking at is 180 miles away
its down south in exeter the car is located
Ahhhh I know the one you mean! From what I saw of the pictures it doesn\'t \'look\' like you should have much trouble with it, looks like a nice clean example, but havning said that, I havn\'t seen it in person or heard it run yet, so can\'t say for sure. Wishing you the best of luck though! :D
hopefully, it wants a little bit of arch work where the arches are cracked hoping that is all
