I kinda like it, but how\'s it done? Surely it\'s either graphics or vinyl wrap? No way a car that\'s actually that rusty would pass an MOT?
I know it\'s an acquired taste, but on certain cars like hotrods I see this a lot, and the old, rusted to hell, battered and abused look really does look quite awesome, but how is it done??
its really is rust, surface rust on the panels so will pass an mot, as the rust is not on the actual sills, chassis rails, subframe etc etc
do a search for rat look on how its done
I just don\'t understand why anybody would PURPOSELY rust their car just to get the look, I mean it can look really cool, the FD looks really cool, but there\'s only so much between surface rust and oh-god-i-need-new-panels rust??
I honestly didn\'t want to believe that people would purposely rust up a car like that just for a look, I kind of had a little faith in common sense that it would just be printed matte-finish vinyl wrap so that it looked the part but wasn\'t actually rusty, obviously I was mistaken T_T
I\'d love to do it to an FB - the matte-finish vinyl printed with rust, that is, not actually rust one on purpose,[opinion] that\'s just stupid.[/opinion]
I could be wrong, but I think it\'s possible to smooth the rust out and wax/polish it on a regular basis to keep it at the same level. Does look kinda cool on that fd, I won\'t be trying it on my TII though, mind you a place like Cyprus would be better to do it as I don\'t think there is any rain now until around January!!
Seen loads of rat cars like that... Take a look on retro rides :)
Lacey, you really need to see and hear it in action now, Ross from Dragons drift weapon, a FDUKin mazing! ;o)
Few more pics and vids on FB / Youtube... njoy ;)

Looks stunning - I\'ve been eyeing up rat look cars for ages, but my missus will go ballistic if I keep something like that on the drive...
tbh it needs to be Real rust Lacey , a vinyl wrap with a rust look would look crap a bit IMO like FARBON haha

I see you have conceded the trouser wearing duties then :p
I\'d get a vinyl wrap with wood panels and nails effect - go for the true \'shed\' look ;) :driving

I\'m on thin enough ground with it sitting on ramps on the drive for a year while I pour money into it... so, yep!

HaHa, got to love \'her indoors\' I\'ve been bollocked for buying stuff before my car has even arrived on my drive LoL.
I just tell her that she won\'t ever understand, so not to bother trying.
Best of luck ;)
this is how he did it...

looks hard as nails, difficult to pull off though!
Mental, great result though!
I get it on like old skool vdubs, campers etc, but not something thats actually something nice like an FD, which looks good with paint!
Hats off for breaking the mould though!

look , you answered it yourself
Lol, it just seems wrong to me to purposely rust up a car that you want to keep. :p
It\'s a drift car, it\'ll end up like Trigger\'s Broom pretty soon.
Ahh, fair enough then I guess. :/
also worth realizing that its hardly a daily drive. I imagine this car gets absolutely spanked wherever it goes. Not to mention the look has probably got dragon a lot of publicity whether people love it or hate it.
I went onto the Fast car page to check it out a bit more. I\'ve got to admit, i love it. I\'ll admit i wouldn\'t do it to my car, but then i don\'t have capability or parts bin dragon have :p
I like the rat look where natural paint ageing, rust and patina is preserved, especially where the rest of the car is well restored, the contrast is cool.
But on the whole I\'m not sure the accelerated ageing of panels works so well. Whats notably the worst is brand new shiny VWs looking like a reps car but then with a really orange rusty bonnet. At least the Dragon FD has been done completely in the look.

Fair point. I love the look, and I\'d love to do it to an older car, like I said like an FB or something, but I\'d not want it to be real rust if that makes sense. It looks good, but I bet it\'s a real PITA to keep on top of and keep in it\'s current state, and stop from deteriorating the overall condition of the car because of it. :/
I\'ve always thought that too Lacey, wonder if anyone knows anymore about this?
