Title: ***TRACKDAY - Blyton Park, Saturday, 6th August***
Post by: Casey on May 22, 2011, 09:26:11 PM
Here’s an ideal event for first-timers and experienced trackday enthusiasts alike!

This is your chance to experience a full day of Open Pitlane trackday fun in your car at the UK’s newest circuit at an astonishing price. This circuit was created just a few months back by laying £500,000 of new tarmac on the old concrete runways of the WW2 RAF airfield at Blyton in Lincolnshire. Crissy, Arnie_O and I had the opportunity to drive the circuit a few weeks back and found it fun, safe, and well suited to novices and experienced trackday drivers alike. The circuit has huge run-offs with virtually nothing to hit - well, maybe the odd cabbage if you really adventurous! The circuit has been specifically designed for training and trackday purposes. As such it will not be staging competitive racing, so alleviating the need to place imposing armco barriers around the circuit for spectator protection.

And what about this – a short ARDS instruction session is free to absolute novice drivers on the day! Drivers interested in more advanced driving skills can opt on the day for a £25, 20 minute session - first come first served!

These days are well managed and marshalled. There will be a comprehensive, compulsory, safety briefing at the start of the day for all drivers, followed by some slow “sighting laps” behind a lead car.

Provisional timings are:

  Event Type: Open Pitlane**
  Sign On 8:00 till 9:00
  Safety Briefing 09.10
  Sighting Laps at 9:30
  Lunch break 12:00 – 13:00
  Finish - 17.00

There will be a second safety briefing for late comers at 10:00.

** “Open Pitlane” means you are free to drive on the circuit when you like, for as much as you like, subject to safe numbers on circuit.

Circuit Statistics:
Length: 1.4 miles /2.25 kms
Corners: 9
Max Noise: 105dB Static

THE COST?: If you book direct with Mazda on Track it would be £139, but due to our partnership with them they are offering the day to us for £119 – IF WE GET 20 OR MORE PEOPLE TO SIGN UP. Judging by the “poll” I ran on another thread, I’m very hopeful this can be achieved. Even better, if you are a full MRC member, we are offering places at a further £15 discount, bringing the cost down to just £104, a total saving of £35! What more incentive do you need?! Please be aware that members can only get discounts on TWO trackday events in any calendar year. We may offer more discounts if budgets allow later in the year!
REQUIREMENTS:  Helmets are required, and you MUST bring along your driving license (both parts if you have them) on the day for inspection.
PAYMENT FOR THIS EVENT:  Payment can be made via the MRC shop (events), just click on the link at the top of the forum page or follow THIS LINK (http://www.rotaryshop.co.uk/btrack-days-2011b-390-c.asp) . Payment MUST be made by midnight Sun 3rd July latest. We have 20 places guaranteed, so after those are gone, I cannot guarantee anyone a place, but will do my best to secure extra places.
INSURANCE: Insurance is not compulsory, but your normal road insurance is unlikely to cover you. I normally take out insurance for trackdays but feel this is a circuit I shall risk going without. However, please look at the separate “Trackday Insurance” thread for advice and make your own judgement.
REFRESHMENTS: There will be a “Burger Van” onsite throughout the day for nourishment. But, “not just any burger van”, this one is reputed to sell the best home made pies in Lincolnshire!
LOCAL ACCOMMODATION: Some people may want to stay locally the night before, the night after, or even both! I’ll post up details later of possible places to stay. If anyone knows the area and any good places to stay, then please let me know.
TRACK LOCATION AND DIRECTIONS OF HOW TO GET THERE: CLICK HERE (http://www.blytonpark.co.uk/where-we-are-2/)

^^^ :InLove Hmmm, as it\'s a Saturday, can you make it a weekend and stay at a nice hotel nearby? You don\'t need to tell her about the trackday bit until you\'ve "sold" the hotel idea..... "darling, what a coincidence, I\'ve just found out there is an MRC trackday near the hotel on the very day we will be there, can I/we...." ;):)

I bought my rx8 from a place about 5 miles from this venue. So it always feels like the car is going home when it goes to Blyton.

^^^ I didn\'t know that! Strange coincidence....

OK Guys, as we seem to have some serious interest in this event, can I ask that everyone pays up asap .

That way I can go back to NickD and reserve some more places as I feel we will find a few more people yet who will want to join us, as the 20 places have almost all gone after only FIVE DAYS. That\'s never happened before!

BUMP!

This is looking to be one of the best attended trackdays for some time! 21 people on the list so far, so if anyone else wants to join us, please post up soon so I can ensure we have enough places reserved for us all

I\'m up for this, will anyone be offended if I turn up in my DC5 instead of the FD if I can\'t get it quiet enough in time!?
Title: ***TRACKDAY - Blyton Park, Saturday, 6th August***
Post by: Casey on June 28, 2011, 12:20:14 AM
^^No problem with the DC5! Although the focus is on getting as many rotary cars along as possible, it\'s not an exclusive rotary event. The more the merrier, as these events are always good social days out, as well as having fun on the track. Let me know when you\'ve paid through the shop so I can add your name to the list.

Post by: Casey on June 29, 2011, 12:31:37 PM
^^^ Excellent - I have added you to the list and look forward to meeting you at Blyton.

EVERYONE - this is looking like the best turnout for a trackday that I can recall - thanks for your support!

If there is anyone still considering joining us, and for the few people on the list above who haven\'t paid yet, please pay for your place by MIDNIGHT this coming SUNDAY, 3rd July to guarantee your place. After that time there MAY still be places but no guarantees, as we do not have enough bookings to make this an exclusive MRC/RX8OC event (we\'d need a minimum of 50 cars for that!).

I\'m really, really, looking forward to seeing so many rotaries, and their owners, at this event. Meantime, I\'ve got Oulton Park to look forward to on 22nd July (still places available for this if you are VERY quick).

Getting very close now - everyone excited? I\'m still on a high from an excellent outing last week to Oulton Park :mmmm

Anyway, here is the briefing from Mazda on Track. Please read, digest and ensure you comply!

Dear Drivers
Many thanks for choosing to attend the Blyton Park track day event on the 6th August 2011. This final instruction should contain everything you will need to know for the event.

Briefing 8.30
Start Driving 9.00
Lunch 12.30
Start Driving 13.30
End Driving 17.00
The event will be run in open pit lane format.

Please ensure you read and adhere to the 7 point checklist below before commencing your journey to the circuit
1) Bring your driving license - both the plastic and paper parts (please note that an MSA race license is not an acceptable substitute)
2) Make sure your car complies with any noise restrictions at the venue (105dB)

4) Fit your towing-eye prior to joining the circuit

Additional Requirements
The primary requirements are that all drivers and passengers read and complete a Track Day Declaration and Indemnity form, available at the circuit, and that anyone going out onto the circuit wears a helmet. Helmets are available to hire at £10 per day.
There will be a compulsory safety briefing at 8:30AM. There will be another briefing 1 hour later.

Additional Drivers and Passengers
All drivers and passengers have to read and complete the Track Day Declaration and Indemnity before going out onto the circuit. Spectators are welcome. Children under 16 years must be supervised at all times.
Additional drivers are £25 and passengers are £10. Both can be paid for on the day.

I\'ve just cut and pasted the above, then noticed the charges for additional drivers and passengers.

NickD confirmed via email on 23 May that 2nd drivers are FREE, any additional drivers will be charged at £25 each. I understand passengers for this event are also free.

I know MoT are in the process of changing their policy on driver/passenger charges, which is possibly why the text sent out for this particular event is incorrect.

Well, I\'ve googled the nearest Shell petrol station North of Northorpe (nearest village to the track).
The nearest seems to be in S:censored::censored::censored::censored:horpe at DN16 2AQ which is 20 minutes away from the track.

For those who are travelling up from the south, there are two at Retford on the A1, Northbound DN22 0QU, Southbound DN22 0PG.

Hope these help.

Less than a week to go, I hope the excitement is building up for what will be a great day out  :D

Most of the "regulars" will be familiar (bored even  :) ) with the "briefing pack" I produce for each of the trackdays we attend. However, I urge eveyone to read the contents to ensure you haven\'t forgotten anything and you can ensure you get the maximum enjoyment from the day by being aware of what to do in advance, and on the day.

I\'ll be posting up a "convoy" thread shortly for anyone travelling up from the south on Friday who might want to join up on the way to Blyton.

EEEK !
Still haven\'t received my FD back from Pip yet ! Had a problem with 5th gear selection, so its back in the shop.

Hopeful I\'ll get it back before Friday.

Jim and I plan to have our own convoy from the North (not sure if that counts as a convoy, or just 2 cars following each other).

Hope to see you all there.

^^ Fingers crossed firmly for you Chris. I really, really hope Pip can get it sorted for Saturday!

Anyone else for the convoy up from the south, or wants to join us for a meal on Friday night.....?

Arrive Birchanger Services (M11/A120) in time to DEPART at 12.30pm
Casey
Zarterone/Nobby
Harrizone

Arrive Peterborough Service (just off A1) in time to DEPART at 2.30pm (I aim to eat a snack here)
Casey
Zarterone/Nobby
Harrizone

That should get us to Blyton ~4.30pm. If you are staying elsewhere on the Friday night then either follow me to the circuit, so you know where it is and timing to get there, or "peel off" at any convenient point en-route. But let me know what you plan to do, in case I think I\'ve lost you ;)
I\'m planning to stop at the Shell Petrol station just south of Retford, the nearest 99 fuel to the circuit on our route up, and about 20 miles form the circuit. We\'ll also be passing a Tesco Petrol station as we pass through Gainsborough, much closer to the circuit, if anyone wants prefers 95 fuel.

I\'d like to eat at the Black Horse Inn, Blyton, on Friday night, 7.30pm (I\'ll book a table when I know numbers)

Zarterone/Nobby

Thanks Malcolm,
Its not looking too good at the moment. When we tested the repacement box last week, a problem emerged with 5th gear.
The upgrade part was due at WGT yesterday, but the Courier has lost it !!

I\'ll let you know what transpires in the next couple of days.

:( I hope Pip can get it sorted. On the other hand, if 4 gears are working OK, can you manage without 5th? Blyton certainly wouldn\'t need 5th gear, so it\'s just the journey to/from. Would using the gearbox in this state cause any damage, or is it simply restricted to 5th gear?

Many thanks to Malcolm for organising a great track day at this new venue.
Despite changeable weather the day was excellent. The track was a very quick, testing track with some very high speed corners, short straights and a few tight chicanes.
Enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with club members in the pits.

Hope Jim fixes his car before Rotorstock. Fingers crossed the engine survived.

Selecting reverse is somewhat of a lottery, although the tightness in the gearbox was slackening slightly by the end of the day LOL.

Jim - so sorry you didn\'t get the chance to enjoy the track much, but really pleased you got home safely. I hope the engine turns out to be OK and it\'s a simple fix! Keep us posted on progress.

Chris - so pleased you had no problems (well, apart from the lottery :)) and you drove him in the FD too!

Everyone I spoke to really enjoyed the track; such a great combination of corners to play with and a really "laid back" atmosphere. Having the owner of the circuit doing a "hands on" job throughout the day was a joy to see.

I\'ll be posting up some photos and a video link shortly.....

Next event (after RS8 of course) is Snetterton on Monday 19th Sept. I\'ll post up some details later in the week and hope you can both make it.
