Title: Boost Controllers
Post by: Gerry M on June 13, 2004, 08:57:43 PM
HI all

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a boost controller either mechanical or electrical?

Profec B is highly regarded in the US, I\'d love to be able to comment, but despite having owned one for over 6 months, it\'s not yet been fitted.  Maybe later this week...

Blitz Spec S works very well for me on twins, solved boost problems I had with stock ecu and Apexi pfc.

Max had Apexi boost control kit for the Power FC - and binned it. He now has new profec like robbie and is very happy i think.

Geff likes the single solenoid spec s blitz atm cause its well priced and appears very good with the twins as Kevin says - hence he just bought another 10 of them!

Steve Cleary has had some problems with the AVCR, but i imagine thats an isolated problem.

Clive runs the turbosmart e-boost which has some useful features too.

Selection rather depends on what functionality you\'re after...

Doing something called work apparently today Fish ;)

Tried a few what?? That\'s a slur on my good character...

Profec b is good - very small,  and does a good job once you learn exactly what gain / boost / initial gain etc is!!!!

Smaller than a fag packet as well, so it\'s easy to tuck out of the way.

Also has a high/low setting button so it\'s quick to adjust for "that git in the Boxster thinks he\'s fast" moment.

It was with customs last Thursday, if anyone happens to see a package addressed to me it would be appreciated if you could forward it on as I have no idea where it is now :reallymad

Gerry, I\'ll hopefully be up north in August, so I\'ll give you a shout when I\'m in the neighbourhood :)

Has anyone used the Blitz SBC i-d 3 boost controller with the power meter on a FD, if so was it any good?  Or would the Blitz SBC Spec S be better?  I am also looking at a HKS EVC boost controller, anyone got any ideas which to go for?

Had the power meter and boost controller on my last MR2 turbo.....was ok but did\'nt really use all the features.... so was not worth the money to tell you the truth.  If you are running stock turbo\'s i have heard the blitz spec S is a good one, but depends on future plans as these start to struggle at 18 psi.  I\'m going for the dual spec r version.  You can get them on ebay for about 200 notes.  The greddy seems to be used a lot as well.... but i have no experience with these.

That is what I was thinking I don\'t know if it is worth spending that much cash on the power meter as you can\'t really use it when you are driving anyway, in time I would like to convert to single turbo maybe, depends what you can get out of the twin turbos.  Thanks for your help mate.  The dual spec R looks like a good option to me.

I think you missed the point....18psi is about 1.2 bar....now i bet there are a few people on here running that type of boost.  What i was trying to get across (must admit i didn\'t do it very well :) )  was that on ebay for an extra 40 quid you can get the spec R which is a dual solenoid and can handle 2.5bar....  why run a spec S at full stretch and put stress on the solenoid when for a little bit extra cash you can have a better all round boost controller.....but then i may be wrong.....which i probably am  :)  just sharing my experiences.

Cheers

Adam

Hopefully :)  it\'s booked on the rollers on Saturday, so assuming the remaining bits and pieces turn up and can be fitted in time... (the engine is still sitting in the corner of the garage ATM, but the turbos are in and non-seq).

I\'ll be sure to let OJ know how it goes, though I never considered granite housings, wonder if I could get them in time ;)
